The Start of The Journey
"Get Back Here! Stinking Boon Rat!" A Man yelled out chasing a young boy with Raven black hair that covered his eyes and wore raggy clothes holding a piece of bread and an already plucked whole duck.
The boy kept running through the already busy market and soon he drew the attention of other stand sellers who looked at the boy with complete annoyance and hate. They band together and chase after the boy causing a huge commotion within the market.
The boy kept running and running. Using every obstacle as a chance to outrun the grown men. He used the dirty alleyways he knew well to outmaneuver his pursuers. Soon he'd make his way to the ghetto. A smile marked on his face as he looked behind him to see his pursuers slowing down bit by bit. He is free!
Suddenly two dogs were running after the boy. Both of them foaming with saliva in their mouths as they barked and closed the distance towards him. Being two grown dogs they easily caught up to the boy. One chomped on the boy's leg as the other one took the duck out of his hand. Soon a whistle came from a man as the dog let go of the boy who earlier cried out in pain and was weeping in pain.
"Stupid boy... Be thankful I don't let the dogs feed on your flesh." A man said as the dogs returned to his side while the other stand clerks walked towards the boy looking down at him.
The men all looked down at the boy and the bread that was now full of mud. They spat and kicked him once or twice for good measure one in particular grabbed the boy by his hair and socked the boy in the face. Blood splatter after that punch, a few teeth in the small pool of blood fell out of his mouth. He stayed down after the beating they gave him injured, bloodied, muddy, and broken.
Even on the outside of the ghetto... This was a common picture. Especially for children who are poor and sickly. Plague, Drugs, and Death were very common here and for the boy... He laid there unable to move from exhaustion, fatigue, hunger, and thirst. People walked by him as rats took his muddy bread from him. All he is now is an empty husk of a human boy... Ready to die.
"What a shame..." A woman's voice said looking at the boy.
The boy didn't respond as his Lapis colored eyes shifted to look at a woman whose face was hidden by a shadow of a Wagasa Umbrella. She wore a beautiful pink and white kimono dress with plum blossom designs on it.
She kneeled down softly stroking his hair as she moved it and mud out of the way to see his face. She smiled as her face became clearer and yet he could see her beautiful smile and face but she had a blindfold covering her eyes.
"No child should have to go through this... Where are your parents?"
No response from the boy as he was only able to let out a small gasp of air showing how weak he was.
"Hm... You must be either four or five years old. If your parents haven't come here to get you. I hope you're not opposed to me taking you home... I can heal you and take you away from this small town."
Once again no response from the boy yet his heart has skipped a beat up on the realization of leaving his current dilemma. This was all the woman needed she smiled at the boy and picked him up. Staining her beautiful kimono with mud and blood from the boy.
"W-why...." The boy softly and weakly asked as the woman stopped and secured the boy in her arms.
"Cause I can see you are meant for so much more." She said petting the back of his head. Her hands were soft to the boy as he has never felt this warmth from anyone before. It was like a spell the minute her soft hand soothed him. It wasn't long til he fell asleep in her arms.
With the boy asleep she took an hour when the sun had fully set to reach her home that resembled an old straw house near a river. She laid the boy inside and began to nurse him to recover. She took his clothes off and burned them to replace them with a smaller blue kimono suited for a boy his size. What seemed like months to the boy only lasted a few days for the woman as she treated his wounds and healed him to great condition even curing his plague with magic as she discovered he was infected by it.
After a full week and for the first time since the boy had arrived he had walked outside her home. Looking at the beautiful forest setting around as he sees the woman standing in front of the river her head turned towards the waterfall. He walked to her and looked up at her.
"Have you rested child?" The woman asked her Raven black hair flowing with the wind.
"Y-yes ma'am." He responded to the woman as she smiled and 'looked' in his direction.
"That's good... And so polite of a street rat hehe. If it wasn't for your parents? Who taught you how to be polite?" The woman asked as the boy bit his lips.
"It's quite alright. Your secret is safe with me. Now tell me... Do you like this place?" She asked as he looked at the scenery again and smiled.
"Yes... Yes I do. I'm thankful for what you've done... And you were right... My parents died a year ago... And I've struggled to survive... This... Long."
"I see... So my child. What is it that you want to do about it?"
"I want to... Grow stronger... You wear those blindfolds yet you're aware of everything around you."
"So you've noticed? You certainly have an eye for detail huh?" She said with a smile and a small giggle it reminded the boy of a soft jiggle of bells.
"I... I guess..."
"Well that's good. And to be honest there's nothing wrong with my sight. But my eyes often draw attention for the wrong reasons. But my own master long ago lost his sight and he trained me to fight even without my sight. But I know your curiosity is clawing at you so~" She said taking her blindfold off and revealing beautiful pearl colored eyes with ruby red in the mix. The boy looked at her eyes in amazement.
"So what do you think?"
"Your eyes... They're beautiful..."
"Hehehe. Only one other man has told me that." She giggled smiling at the boy.
"O-oh I'm sorry for your loss."
"Oh don't be. He's simply in another town trading." She smiled looking at him.
"Oh... Sorry..." The boy said blushing and looking down.
"It's quite alright... Oh actually you're just in time... Our food is coming." She said as a Giant fish leapt out at them from the river as if it was going to eat them.
"Ahhh!" The boy covered his face in fear as the woman simply giggled as the next thing was heard was a loud thud.
"Huh?" The boy looked back to see the large Kaiju sized fish perfectly fillet in two.
"Are you hungry? I know I am." She said smiling at the boy who stood there dumbfounded.
"H-How do I get this strong?"
"Do one hundred pushups, sit-ups everyday, and beat a dragon."
"Wait what?"
"Oh sweetie that's just the basics Of you'd like me and my husband would be more than happy to teach you." She smiled looking at the boy as he had an analytical look on his face.
"When can I begin?" The boy asked as the woman smiled.
"Hmm... Well Sweetie... We can start tomorrow... With that in mind... What's your name?"
"I.... I don't have one..."
"I see..." She held her chin and looked at him.
"Your eyes remind me Of Sapphire and Lapis gems... I think it'll be appropriate to give you my Surname as well as your name... From now on... You're my dear Lapis Wakagen."
"Lapis... Wakagen... I like that name... Wait, You're Dear?" The boy asked, looking up at her.
"That's correct... If it's ok with you... I'd like to adopt you." The woman said with a soft and sweet smile on her face.
"You'd want to adopt me?... But why?"
"Because little Lapis. I see great things in you that I don't want to see wasted on the streets. Because I'd be happy to become your mother or master however you see fit. I know you'll have some reserves but it is your choice in the end my offer will stand true." She said kneeling down to his level.
"I... I see... It would be nice to... Have an actual mother... And Father." He said looking to the side with a small smile.
"I'm glad to hear you say that Lapis. C'mon help me prepare this fish." She said as she toss him to her shoulder.
"O-Ok... Wait what's your name?"
"My name is Pearl Wakagen spouse of Ruby Wakagen. But you can call me Either Master or Mom." She said with a smile as she had put her blindfold back on.
12 years later.
"You sure this is a good idea mom?" Lapis a young man with Raven black hair that had a single blue bang to the front and lapis eyes scanned his person's making sure his school uniform was nice and tidy.
"Of course. My bright boy deserves to go to Midgard Academy." Pearl said with a kind smile as he husband looked at Lapis and with a stoic look nodded in agreement all the whole the family was standing outside the gates of Midgard Academy.
"Yea but a School full of nobles... And Royalty on top of that... I would definitely be an Outcast..." He said with a shrug.
"Tough it out." Ruby said as Pearl slapped his arm.
"Fair enough... How were you able to get me in?"
"That test you took a while back... That and the Director owed us a favor~" Pearl said with a smug look as Lapis looked at Ruby.
"We got him drunk one day and saved him from bandits that just happened to be in the area." Ruby said as Pearl still had the smug look.
"You both are... I wanna say Amazing."
"You darn straight." Ruby said with a slight huff.
"You'll do just fine. You've beaten Alduin, so this school life shouldn't be an issue. I have full faith you can make an impact and this'll be your stepping stone." Pearl smiled and looked into Lapis's eyes as Ruby Nodded in agreement.
"But if you're smart you'd also keep a low profile. These nobles tend to be... Resentful." Ruby said causing Lapis to nod.
"I'll be careful and I'll make you both proud." He said giving both his adoptive parents a hug however Ruby broke away and turned his back on Lapis.
"You better..." Ruby said with a huff as Pearl simply giggled and Lapis smiled.
"Love you too Pops... Well then I beat be off to make my way to class." Lapis said with a smile as he waved them goodbye entering The school building.
"Perhaps this time... I can have a Semi Normal High school life... Last time was a horrible time cause of that Idiot Mi-" Lapis was thinking to himself before he had bumped into someone as he was deep in thought.
"Oh Sorry about th- Ack!" Lapis looked up at a Girl with red hair going to apologize before three knights suddenly slammed him to the ground.
"How dare you run into Princess Iris like that!"
"What on Earth are you thinking?!"
"No man should even touch the Princess you sir are in big trouble!" The Knight all screamed at him causing a commotions.
"Hey hey! Relax! it was just an Accident!" Lapis said out loud in defiance as he was slowly starting to stand up as the three guards noticed and pushed with all their might.
"STOP THIS INSTANCE!" The woman with Red Hair yelled out as the Three Knights stood at attention... But one of them did kick the boy out of spite before joining his comrades.
"Hey wha-"
"I apologize for their behavior... They tend to forget I can defend myself." She said offering her hand to the boy.
"It's... Fine... I'm Lapis Wakagen." He said taking her hand as she helped him stand up.
"Wakagen... I don't believe I've heard that name before... Oh forgive my manners. I'm Iris Midgard." Iris smiled softly.
"I figure as much thanks to them... Look I'll just be on my way... Sorry for bumping into you Princess." He bows to her as he then looks up and sees a crowd around them.
"It's fine. Enjoy class." She smiles and leaves causing them both to go separate ways in the same courtyard.
"Welp... So much for that... Hah go figure my luck I run into a Princess of the Kingdom and already have eyes on me.... What's next The End of the World?!"
