Chapter 7
*TRIGGER WARNING*
A week later and things have only gone downhill for the both of them. Lux was losing her mind during the war preparation what with getting barely any sleep and never being able to focus. Willow hadn't felt so alone in so long, she forgot what it was like and didn't know how to deal with it.
During that week they were going over strategies and maps planning where they want groups, how many angels in the groups, and who would be leading them. With Lux having been one of their best warriors they decided to have her lead a group of 50 angels towards the left side of the battlegrounds where typically the Incubi & succubi as well as the, Familiars, demons, spawn during battle. Other than Earth, the battlegrounds are the closest in between Heaven and Hell.
The incubi & succubi, and the Familiars are demons built much like man with the wings of a dragon. Although, not just any man, huge, built, scary, toned men with menacing red and black wings that make the ground shake when shot down, vibrating strength coming from the muscle. Their eyes are glowing yellow and soulless while their skin burns red like fire. Horns come out from their heads, threatening for a challenge. But, angels almost never got nervous, it was the first time Lux got nervous before battle and she knew it was because of Willow and the promise she made.
It was the day before the battle between the two sides when Lux was finally on a short break, only given because her attention was no where near the matter at hand and the lead general was getting agitated. Lux felt bad, she truly did, but also received since now she was free to zone out in peace and let her emotions really sink in, instead of masking them. As soon as she escaped the room she went straight to the tents so she could bundle up in her cot while she holds the necklace, wondering what Willow is doing. She was in pain from being away from here lovely Willow and she knew Willow must have been feeling the same pain, if not, worse.
As for Willow, she had been too tired as of late with her insomnia to trust herself with driving. She at that moment was taking the city bus to the Café down the street that she could never remember the name of. The sky was dark, grey, cloudy and pouring warm rain throughout the entire town. The one thing Willow was happy about since Lux left. The rain has always been her favorite but she never really knew why. Maybe it was because she had so many memories with it that most people would forget but she always remembered the non-important things the most. It brought her back to all those times in the woods, in the meadow, the waterfalls, the bon-fires, the curved roads with full yet empty fields, the sound of it hitting the windows that she looked out of while listening to all of her old favorite songs on repeat. Right now that was sort of the case.
She had her head leaning against the window with her headphones in and the volume almost all the way up. She was listening to 'Sign of the Times,' by Harry Styles, a very emotional song that always perfectly fit the mood of rainy windows as trees fly by and tears blur the street lights making them glow and actually look beautiful. The tears came after thinking about Lux in the meadow. She didn't know why but crying always made her cold, shivery, clothes never helping no matter the layers. Willow knew that if Lux had been there, she would have been holding her tightly against her chest, wiping her tears and whispering sweet nothings into her ears. This only made her crying more and snuggle into the window more, pretending it was Lux to try and calm down, it helped a little but the ice coldness coming off of the window wasn't helping much, knowing how Lux was always so warm and soft. But remembering the feeling left a warm heat spreading through her heart; that alone made all the difference in that moment. It didn't take away the pain of missing her but it also left the trace of hope that she would return soon.
When she arrived at the Café she ordering coffee with a small bit of creamer in which she added a lot of sugar to after receiving. When she sat down at the table she thought against reading knowing it would make her cry again since everything in that book reminds her of Lux. The book was one of her favorites, one she had reading 11 times and counting; It was called 'The Haven,' by, Carol Lynch Williams. It always made her cry, smile like an idiot, and wonder if she would ever have an adventure of her own that would bring her love.
When she opened up her laptop to safari she didn't expect what she saw. Two things popped up, most recently visited sites; YouTube, Wattpad, and Twitter, but it also showed recommended, something that must have come with the new update. It recommended a quiz for 'How to tell if you're in love with your best friend.' She thought it strange since none of her search history could've lead to this but she decided to do it for the heck of it because why not. When she clicked on the website it took her to the page where it said, "Quiz by: @cammyloveshergayness. Are you in love with your best friend? Maybe. Maybe not. Find out if you do here. Start quiz." She clicked the start quiz before she could over think it and dove right in.
The quiz was full of things including, "Do you feel a spark or electric feeling when you touch? When they are not there do you feel depressed and like you aren't really 'there' half the time? Have you given them a very personal thing so you feel like you are with them even when you aren't? Would you do anything for them? Do you obsess over everything about them and find their 'flaws' flawless? Do you sometimes catch yourself staring intently at their features like; eyes, hair, lips, smile, dimples (if they have them), etc.? Do you think nothing could get in the way of your relationship with each other? Do you feel alive when you're with them and sort of dead when you're not? Is there some kind of indescribable feeling and connection between you two that you both sense when your around one another?" She ended up answering every question right. The results of the quiz showed that she was in fact in love with Lux and very much so. Willow didn't really know how to feel about this for a number of reasons..
One, she had never been in love before so she didn't really know what to do now that she was pretty sure she was. Two, her and Lux never really discussed religion or homosexuality so she wasn't really sure about what Lux thought of the matter. Three, even if she did bring it up in the future, how would Lux react and would it break apart their friend ship? She knew she was very dependent on Lux and didn't know how she could deal with not having her even in a platonic sense.
But who was to say that Lux would ever return in the end anyways. It wasn't up to either of them but they had their hope, courage, and fight to get them through it even if they had to wait years before they would meet again, neither of them would give up for little did they know, what they had was growing stringer by the day. The distance between them was only but a test. Now it was just left to be known if they will make it or not, survival wise and emotionally, what with not being able to be there for each other like they usually are.
Just like every story, it starts out small but can grow to be the greatest and most beautiful thing in existence. And just like many things in life it was simple, yet effective.
But even the most beautiful things could be destroyed. Both Lux and Willow were very familiar with this. After realizing her potential feelings for Lux, Willow was already starting to feel the anxiety creeping up on her again. Panic starting to flood her and immediately, her coping mechanisms began to kick in. She grabbed her purse and went to the restrooms. After she closed the stall and locked it securely she pulled out a small plastic box out of her purse that rattled from the small objects inside. She had been doing so well for so long, ever since Lux came along but now she didn't have her steady rock holding her up with her anymore and she broke easily. She pulled out one of the small objects, looked at her risk as all thoughts and feelings vanished from within her, leaving only the pain, worry, sadness, memories and the robotic movement to begin creating a new and darker image against her skin, string it crimson red over the once pale creamy canvas.
