Chapter 3: New Environment

Y/N's POV

Entering Jaune's dorm, I was greeted by three other people. Mr. Arc had started introducing his teammates. "So guys, this is Y/N Rose; he is Ruby and Yang's foster brother."

"Hello." The redhead greeted the Kryptonian, with a kind voice that was welcoming to many people. "My name is Pyrrha Nikos, welcome to Beacon."

"So this is the brother I've heard much about! What's your semblance?! What kind of weapon do use?! Have you've broken anyone's legs? My name is Nora." Nora had a unique personality.

"Nice to meet you Y/N. My name is Ren, don't mind Nora, she's a very enthusiastic person." The one called Ren sat on his bed with a calm expression on his face.

Scratching the back of my head, I let out a hearty chuckle. This is a bizarre team but they certainly are entertaining. "Nice to meet you all, I hope my sisters haven't caused you guys much trouble." Ruby started pouting after I said this, I usually just pat her head. Instead, I playfully stuck my tongue out her.

"What do you do for fun Y/N?" Jaune asked me.

"I do enjoy reading fascinating literature, other than that I use my leisure time fishing, dad and I went out fishing when mom would take these two out for some mother-daughter bonding." With a smile planted on my face, I thought maybe they found me boring since I enjoy the simple things in life.

"Well, you and Blake would get along so well. She loves books." Nora stated.

"She seems like a charming person, I've met her and well she isn't a good conversationist." My half-lidded eyes showed my slight irritation with how she was with me.

Yang wrapped an arm around my shoulder, she had that usual grin on her face when she tries to cheer people up. "Don't worry bro, she's rough around the edges but when you get to know her, she is a really fun person to hang out with."

"I find that hard to believe, she's a Debby downer. Our talk wasn't exactly a positive one." Looking at Jaune's team, they weren't sure what to say.

Pyrrha spoke up. "Don't worry about it Y/N, I'm sure she'll warm up to you. After all, you're very polite and you enjoy some of the same things she does." She smiled at me.

Furrowing my left brow, it showed my confusion with said topic. "Why are you guys so keen on getting me to be all buddy-buddy with Blake? I honestly don't care if she doesn't want to be friends, just because we share similar interests doesn't mean I would necessarily be friends with her. I prefer to live my life worry-free, but that's hard enough as it is with those bandits who stole the dust from the shop I worked at, plus the Grimm running amok. I'd be fine being friends with you guys, maybe minus the ice queen, and miss anti-social."

"I think Weiss is warming up to us, she's strict and proper but she's fun when she lets herself have fun." Ruby chimed in.

"How bout we end the topic, it looks like it's lunchtime. I would love to try some of the food selections here, I know they won't have apple pie but a man can dream." Everyone nodded their heads as we made our way to the school's cafeteria. Once we made it there, hearing all the juicy gossip between friends and some chit-chat. Super hearing is not a fun power to have when you hear things that would make anyone uncomfortable to hear. Shivering from the nights I heard people getting intimate, it was an unpleasant experience.

The group had gone to get their lunch, I decided to look around the lunchroom; noticing some people were looking at me I only ignored them. Knowing what they were saying about me thanks to this super hearing. Upon getting my food, the others waved over to me signaling me to sit with them. With a simple shrug of the shoulders, I took a spot next to them. They were talking about some of the shenanigans they had at this school.

"So, Y/N, what did you do before you came to Beacon?" Noticing the Ice Queen was there, she asked me this question guessing she wants to know me more.

Before answering, I noticed miss anti-social was already here reading a book. "I worked in a dust shop, in my off time I go fishing by myself to let the stress of the day be forgotten. Either than that, I read some books, or do some work around the house." Giving Weiss an honest answer, leaving out the vigilante stuff.

"That's nice, you seem like a very responsible person." Weiss responds.

"So why we were gone Y/N, did you meet anyone special?" Yang teased.

"No... I just never met that special someone, it doesn't matter though I just go with the flow of things." With a simple shrug, I didn't simply care.

Yang gives Blake an elbow and began whispering to her. "He's perfect for you Blakey." Blake whacked Yang in the arm but Yang still smiled.

"Yang... Knock it off... I don't want you to play matchmaker." She kept her eyes on the book.

Eating the food on the tray, I stayed mostly quiet while the others chat away. I only just met these people so I don't have much to say. Though I can't help but miss the life I once had, Ozpin is not a person I trust, I have no respect for him either turning teens into an army to fight Grimm. If Yang or Ruby got hurt, I'll see to it that he will answer for that.

"Hey! Y/N, Remnant to Y/N..." Ruby tried getting my attention.

"Yeah?" Responding to her.

"You okay? You snapped your tray in half." Ruby was right, looking down I saw that I had food on my hands and the tray had snapped in half.

"Yeah... Just, something was on my mind. Sorry guys, I just hadn't been in the right state of mind today." I said scratching my head.

I noticed Blake was looking at me and I looked at her with utter confusion. I don't know what is up with this woman but she needs to take a chill pill.

After lunch had ended, today was an off day so we all sat in the dorm. Yang and Ruby were playing video games, Weiss was organizing her stuff guessing that she is trying to make room for me to put my stuff somewhere. Blake on the other hand was laying in her bed with her book as usual. I was sitting on the floor with my back against the wall, thinking about the new costume I was working on. It used the symbol of the blanket I was found in.

"Haha! I win!!!" Yang cheered that she won which Ruby groans from her L.

"REMATCH!!!" Ruby demands Yang with a determined expression.

A chuckle escaped from me, these two haven't changed at all. I opened my bag pulled out my notebook, wrote down ideas for my costume. Once again, Blake was watching me write in my notebook all the ideas I had for my costume, I just simply ignored her. Whistling a hardy tune, it was still weird sharing a room with four girls, I just kept my mind off of it and continued writing down ideas. "Cape... No... Or maybe..." I said to myself.

Ruby observes what I'm writing with great interest. "What are you writing?" She asked with a smile.

Closing my notebook so she doesn't see what I'm doing. "None of your business, that's what." I put it back in my bag. "And no going into my bag either, I won't go through your stuff so you don't go through mine."

Ruby puffs her cheeks but then sighed. "Fine... Why are you so defensive over it though?" She asks.

"Yeah, why are you defensive about it?" Yang asks.

"Personal reasons." I sighed and then walked to the bathroom and closed the door. Seeing that I have stubble on my face, I did the only method I had of shaving it. Shooting two beams of intense heat from my eyes which reflected off of the mirror and struck my face. The beams were hot enough to trim the stubble giving me a clean shave. With a sigh escaping my lips, I just wash my face off with water trying to calm myself down. That notebook had my notes of where I come from, I was still searching for my true home. Mom and dad told me that I was an alien but they decided to keep it hidden from Yang and Ruby. "Why can't I figure anything out... I gotta get myself together and keep it up..." Slapping myself to encourage me to keep up with the current situation.
