9-year old Nyx POV

I flew across the room, bleeding from my broken leg. I could see the bone poking out. "You useless little-" Was all I heard from my dad, Taiyang before I was kicked across the room again. Yang caught me, and I was glad. She gave me a warm smile, which then turned into an expression of disgust. She punched me in the face, and I rolled across the floor. Yang then used me as a rug, wiping her muddy shoes on the remains of my shirt and walking on me. "Hi Dad!" She said sweetly, as though nothing had happened. Tai then lifted me up and tossed me to Yang, who punched me into a wall. Qrow walked into the house, and I thought I was saved. Qrow walked over...and stepped over me, like I wasn't even there. He made a point to stomp on my ribs. I felt and heard at least 3 snap. Then one punctured my left lung. I made an odd wheezing sound, and Tai, Yang, and Qrow looked at me. I coughed up a bone shard, along with about 3 ounces of blood. Tai's eyes widened, and he kicked me again. I saw I had gotten blood on the rug next to me. I couldn't even whimper in pain as they beat me senseless. 

"What are you guys doing?" Came Ruby's voice. "J-Just playing a game Rubes. Nothing to worry about." I said, trying to alleviate the beating. "Oh. Ok." Ruby said. She then jumped off the top of the stairs, landing on my back. "I'M NOT STUPID NYX." Ruby said as she stomped on the back of my head, forcing it into the floor. She walked off of me, and gave Tai and Qrow a hug. I puked up more blood, and Tai ordered me to clean it up. I took off my blood-stained shirt and tried to wipe it up. My hands shook, and my broken leg collapsed under me, sending me into the pool of blood that was forming under me. I laid there, not being able to do anything else. It hurt to do anything, even breath and blink. I wiped it up as best as I could, then tried and failed to crawl outside. "Toss him outside Tai. I don't want to see this waste of space anymore." Qrow said. Tai did so, and Ruby and Yang locked all of the doors and windows. I laid in the rain and mud, letting the rain wash the blood off. I fell asleep outside in the wet and cold.

Timeskip, next morning.

I woke up to see...smoke? Smoke was curling off of my skin, and I felt one of my ribs slide back into place. 'I'm...Healing?' I thought to myself. Ruby opened the door and threw a moldy lump of bread at me. "Dad wants you in your room. We have people coming over today." I simply nodded, and limped to my room. My leg bone was in place and fixed, but it still hurt. I got into my room, and flopped down on the moth-eaten sleeping bag. I was gonna leave them today. I had a window in my room, and I had all my stuff in a backpack. After the people left, I wrote a note, raided Tai's wallet and the fridge, grabbed my stuff, and dipped. 

"HEY! GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE BRAT!" I heard Yang yell. I thought 'I need to get away.' I then was wrapped in a pink and purple light. 'Huh?' I ran much faster then Yang could, but then I saw a red spiral. "Oh, that's JUST GRAND! Ruby discovered her semblance, and it just so happens to be speed!" I managed to ditch them after a while. However, a few old wounds opened, and I stopped by a trailer in the woods. I knocked to see if anybody was in, and some guy opened up. He was wearing a red beanie, with a gray sweater and denim vest. "Yeah?" He said. I was about to say something, but I fell to one knee and began to puke blood. "Oh sh-FETCH! GET THE FIRST AID KIT!" "Why Del?" I heard somebody yell. A girl with purple hair walked into my field of vision, and she gasped. She dashed off, and came back with a medical kit. "Ok kid, this is really gonna suck. Hold still." The guy said. He ripped my shirt open and pulled out a syringe full of some sort of medicine. He was right. It did suck. Then I passed out.

Delsin POV

I saw the smoke and neon coming off of the kid. "Uhhh, Fetch?" I called. Fetch raced over. "Yeah?" "Look at him. What do you see?" I asked Fetch. "Smoke and neon." She said. Then her eyes widened. "You don't think..." she trailed off. "Yes. He's a Conduit."
