(^season 2 Jordan Baker is superior🥵)
✧
Luna sat perched on Coach Baker's desk in South Crenshaw High while Jordan and his father had talked. Jordan was showing his dad his highlight reel while his girlfriend sat patiently and scrolled through her phone waiting for him to finish up.
"Yeah, Coach Montes helped," Jordan told his father. "So, did Luna."
"I did?" she questioned, tilting her head to the side.
"Remember that highlight reel you gave me last year?" Jordan grinned. "I used most of that footage to put this video together and then Montes just added a few more clips."
"Wow, look at me," Luna giggled, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "Just call me girlfriend of the year."
Jordan patted her bare thigh and grinned. "That you are."
"Well, I'm very impressed, son" Mr. Baker complimented.
"But you if you were a D1 recruiter—"
"But nothing," his father cut him off. "It's all there, footwork, anticipation, your feel for the pocket. I mean, you send this out, you're gonna have recruiters banging down your door."
"Well, Montes and I sent it out to just about every NCAA football program in the state," Jordan said.
"Okay, that's good," Billy agreed. "I like the initiative."
"Thank you, but um..." Jordan frowned. "I just haven't gotten a single response, and it's been two weeks."
"You know highlights, they only tell half the story, and recruiters they want to see you with their own eyes," Billy informed him. "Plus every single one of them is gonna be at the platinum All American game."
"That's what I told him," Luna snipped, earning a glare from her boyfriend.
"You know, I'm probably not going to play," Jordan turned around to glance at her before facing his dad again. "I'm the fifth quarterback on the depth chart. I don't even know if the coach is gonna let me see the field."
"I'm pretty sure she's gonna play you," Billy assured.
"She?" he grinned. "Wait, wait. Coach Montes..."
"Coach Montes just got named coach for the western conference team," Billy revealed.
Jordan had jumped up from his chair in excitement. His father had waited for him to relax a bit before suggesting he go see Coach Montes so they could talk about the All American game.
"Actually, can you take me to your place, first?" Luna asked, slipping her hand into his hold.
"Ew," Mr. Baker grimaced.
"Ew, you," Luna scrunched her face up at his indirect accusation. "I'm supposed to talk to your wife about some stuff. Get your mind out of the gutter, dude. Respectfully."
The older Baker man tilted his head at the teen. "Oh. Well...have fun."
She flashed him a small smile while Jordan had practically tugged on her arm in the direction of the exit. The two had retreated to his car before they made a small stop at his house, Jordan removed his house key from his keychain and handed it over to his girlfriend so she could let herself inside.

Once she was inside she was immediately overwhelmed by the stacks of books on the coffee table and the neatly organized folders.
"Oh!" Laura gasped, walking out from the kitchen. "You're so quiet."
"Jordan let me borrow his key," she shrugged. "He went to see Coach Montes. Um...what's with all of the books?"
"I got a little excited when you told me you were interested in law," Laura gushed, guiding the girl towards the couch. "So, tell me, what schools have you applied to?"
Luna's eyes widened at her excitement as she reluctantly sat beside the woman on the couch. "Um, UCLA, Stanford, Columbia, and Northwestern."
"Wow, those are great schools," she grinned. "So, two schools on the west coast and two schools on the east coast...Does Jordan know?"
"Oh, Mrs. Baker you are just getting straight to the point, aren't you?" the teen questioned. "But, no, he does not. I will tell him when he comes back."
Laura nodded her head in approval as she sifted through her organized folders. "Great, now, what kind of law are you interested in? Family, business, environmental, ooh, there's real estate law which could be interesting because Peter's a real estate agent—"
"Civil rights," Luna cut her off. "I want to practice civil rights law kind of like what you're doing now. I want to do something that aligns with my views and the things that I believe in while also helping people. Plus, ever since the whole Tamika Pratt thing happened it kind of opened my eyes."
"You are going to do great things in the future, Luna," Mrs. Baker complimented. "And I've kept everything from my days in undergrad to law school so, we can sit around and you can ask me all the questions you want until Jordan comes back because I'm sure this is not how you want to spend the rest of your evening."
Luna let out a small chuckle as she flipped through the stacks of folders. And for the remainder of the afternoon and early evening, she had been asking Laura frequent questions and the older woman had even convinced the teen into calling her by her first name instead of Mrs. Baker because she just couldn't deal with the teen calling her by Mrs. Baker every time she asked her a question. Jordan had finally come home which made the woman leave and essentially leave the teens alone in the living room.
"I brought takeout," Jordan announced, dropping a bag of food on the coffee table. "Woah, you look..."
"My brain hurts," she groaned, clutching her head in her hands. By now, Luna had thrown her jacket over the couch and her shoes were kicked off somewhere on the floor. She looked...not put together to put it nicely. "I've read so much. Your mom gets really excited about this stuff."
"Eat." He took the box containing a sandwich and shoved it under her nose. "I've got some news, babe."
"Does it have to do with your talk with Montes?" she asked.
"Mhm," he confirmed. "Turns out schools don't want me because of my concussions. I'm a liability because I got injured twice in one season and they can't take that risk by having me."
"So, what are you going to do?" she questioned, shifting her body so could face him. "You're not...giving up, right?"
"Junior college," Jordan revealed. "That's the plan. I'll go to a junior college play football there for 2 years and hopefully, I can transfer to a D1 after."
She let out a small hum as she dropped the sandwich back into its container. "Junior college? I think that's a great idea, Jordan."
"You do?" he asked. "I mean, you'll still love me if I don't go to some pretentious school, right?"
"Yes, I'll still love you," she giggled, pulling his face into her hands and softly kissing him. "Speaking of college. I have to tell you something. I applied to schools on the east coast. Not just...in California."
Jordan jerked his head back and removed his face from her grip, making his girlfriend pout. "Okay."
"Okay?"
"Okay," he shrugged. "Long-distance. We can do it. I'll visit you, you could visit me, and we can make it work, okay? People make long-distance relationships work all the time. And it's us. If anyone can do this, it's us."
As much as she loved how optimistic he was being, she couldn't help but think about the negative aspects of their relationship. Their first attempt at a relationship wasn't very successful and although they were now pretty stable, being on opposite ends of the country couldn't be good for them.
"Hey," he gently poked her side. "What are you thinking about?"
"That long-distance could be hard," she admitted. "I don't want to be away from you. And last year when we first attempted a relationship was so difficult and we were in the same city, living 5 minutes away from each other. What's gonna happen if we're in different time zones?"
"The people we were last year compared to now are...way different, Luna," Jordan sighed. "We're not that same couple. If you want to go to school on the East Coast, then we'll make it work. I promise."
"I'm only believing you because you promised," she frowned.
Jordan pulled her in for a hug and pressed a small kiss to her cheek. Her head dropped down onto his shoulder while she let out a dramatically loud sigh.
"Ew, we're so boring and domestic," she let out a small scoff as she wiggled out of her boyfriend's grip and observed her surroundings. "We're sitting at home while all our friends are doing fun stuff."
"We might as well be a married couple," Jordan quipped, gently poking her side. "Actually...I wouldn't mind that."
"We're still in high school," she reminded him. "Plus, if I were to end up in New York or Illinois, it'd be kind of hard to be married."
His eyes squinted as he glanced at her "So that was a no?"
"Yes, it was a no," she confirmed.
"Whatever," he scoffed. "You're missing out. I'd be a great husband."
"You still live in your parent's house," she retorted.
"We can live in my room," he joked. "Just me, you, and—"
"The gross sock under your bed," she cut him off.
"Shut up." Jordan narrowed his eyes at the grinning girl. His eyes shifted down to her outfit, although he was with her earlier he never fully looked at her. So, the sight of her long legs in a short skirt was definitely a sight he enjoyed. "Wanna get naked or something?"
"We are not getting naked," she shook her head in a scolding manner. "Your parents are upstairs."
"You were right," Jordan scoffed, crossing his arms against his chest. "We are boring."
She fluttered her eyelashes at him and pecked his cheek softly. Their attention was quickly taken once Liv had walked through the front door and happily skipped over to the couple, dropping down beside her best friend, also placing a soft peck on her cheek.
"Ugh," Jordan groaned. "Let me guess? You want to gossip about your date and you want me to leave?"
"Wow, you're so intuitive Jordan," Liv stated, sarcastically. "Go to your room. You can have her when I'm done."
"I'm not a toy," Luna butted in. "You can't just pass me around, you know?"
Jordan stood up from the couch and turned his nose up at his sister. "Make sure she's in a good mood when you're done."
"Tell me all about the date!" Luna exclaimed, turning to Liv. "I want to know everything. And I mean everything."
"It was such a good date," Liv gushed, kicking her feet up on the table. "He was going to take me to this really fancy restaurant. But, you know me, I'm not into all of that. So, we went to Castle Park which was right across. We played arcade games, took some photos in the photo booth, played mini-golf, and we kissed...a lot."
"Kissed?" she quirked her eyebrow. "Is that code word for...you banged Spencer James."
"We don't say bang!" Liv scoffed. "It's making love. And no...we didn't. Why does everyone have sex on the brain?"
"Because sex is amazing," the brunette smirked, turning to face her extremely grossed-out best friend. "In general. I don't mean...with...Jordan. I just meant in general it's good. But, you two have...oh, my..." Luna glanced at the sheepish expression on her face. "You and Spencer haven't had sex, yet!"
"Shh! Sex doesn't solidify a relationship," she defended with a frown. "We're waiting. I want our first time to be special and meaningful. Plus for the first time I'm in a relationship that means a lot to me, I want it to be perfect."
"Asher and Chris are somewhere plotting your death," Luna joked. "I'm kidding. I think that's pretty sweet. In fact, it's kind of adorable."
Liv wiggled her eyebrows and grinned. "What about you? Anything fun happen today?"
"Your dad thinks I'm a slut," she revealed. "And I've started calling your mom by her first name. However, I still find it strange and I probably will not continue with it."
Liv's mouth hung open in shock as she turned to face her friend. "My dad...what?"
"Okay, so I was with your dad and Jordan at South Crenshaw, right?" she slouched against the couch and crossed her arms. "And when we were about to leave, I asked Jordan if we could stop here first. And your dad automatically assumed I meant to have...sex. Which was not true. I had plans to speak with your mom about the whole wanting to be a lawyer thing."
"Well, in his defense," Liv cautiously took ahold of her friend's hands. "He's seen you walk out of Jordan's room post-booty call."
"It's not a booty call if you're in a relationship!" she defended, letting out a small huff. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get home."
Liv pointed at the steps. "What about your boyfriend?"
"Just tell him I'll send him a naughty picture as an apology," Luna wiggled her eyebrows and smirked. "Hmm, maybe I am a slut? Adios, amor."
"I'm not telling him that!" Liv yelled.
