BEST FRIENDS FOREVER.

It was as literal as it could be. Ever since they met in middle school, a pair of girls became immediately inseparable. They were attached to the hip. They cared more about each other than anyone else. Sure, they loved their other friends, their boyfriends and girlfriends, their families. But each other? Nobody could compare.

Hazel Greenwood and Sadie McCullough were two peas in a pod. Two girls who moved to a small town in Virginia, two girls with different lives, attached at the hip. They lived their normal lives, spending their free times at the local library, or the Mystic Grill. They weren't popular, and they certainly didn't run the same circles Sadie's cousin, Tyler, but they had each other.

THEN THEY MET STEFAN SALVATORE.

Call it fate, call it destiny, but Stefan Salvatore knew that these two random girls were going to be in his life longer than he'd expect. They were an unplanned friendship that he felt protective over. They were normal girls; with no ties to what he moved back to Mystic Falls for. They didn't know about him, his family, or a peculiar classmate named Elena Gilbert.

So, when his older brother follows him to town, he chooses to protect them. They don't seem so special, Damon would say as he realized quickly Elena wasn't the only thing Stefan cared about. They're human. They're normal. Boring. And look nothing like Katherine. Her name stained Stefan's memory and made his blood boil. But his brother knew that. Just like he knew that befriending the two strange human girls would make Stefan furious.

ELENA GILBERT WAS DAMAGED GOODS.

At least, she thought so. After surviving a terrifying accident that killed her parents, Elena was certain she'd never find happiness again. At first, everybody felt bad for her. They babied her like a lost puppy that broke its leg. Then, slowly over time, people stopped caring. People stopped treating her different. Hell, sometimes it felt like they were harder on her than before. She had given up. She didn't want anything to do with what she once loved. And then a boy moved into town. A boy named Stefan Salvatore.

Epic loves exist. Elena knew that, she had seen it in her parents. And whilst Stefan swept her off her feet and taught her how to live once again, she knew he was one of hers. But love is a funny thing. It comes in different forms, in different stories, at different times. Sometimes, it starts out as a peculiar redhead girl who's friends with your new boyfriend. And then, they become your own best friend, the two of you sharing a connection that grew stronger over time. And sometimes, that connection has a shift. A shift that causes your mind to wander to that same peculiar redheaded girl.

DAMON SALVATORE WAS A MENACE.

He knew it. Hell, he was proud of it. There was not a singly good bone in his body, and all he cared about was Katherine. So, when his and his brothers secret is exposed and two teenage girls start poking around his business, you can imagine what good that did. Damon didn't have the time to deal with two teenage girls. He didn't care that they wanted to know about him, about his life, about what he could do that they can't.

And sure, maybe Sadie McCullough didn't make him wanna pull his hair out. Maybe her witty comebacks and her ability to understand him in a way Stefan hadn't in many years caught his eye. And maybe he started to understand why his brother was so protective. I knew you liked us, Hazel would say with a knowing grin. That is, if he ever admitted it. And he wouldn't. Not to her.

VAMPIRES, WITCHES, WEREWOLVES, OH MY!

Maybe Hazel and Sadie should've minded their own business. They should've stopped searching for answers to the animal attacks in town. They should've stopped trying to befriend the new student and find out why him and his brother were so strange. Maybe Hazel Greenwood should've told Elena Gilbert no that day she asked her to come to the library to look at some old news articles. Maybe Sadie should've never started snooping into the truth behind the founding families.

However, I'd like to think that, no matter what decision any of them made, their fate had already been sealed. That night of the comet. The night of Hazel Greenwood's sixteenth birthday.

hazel and sadie are sixteen at the start of this story. SIXTEEN. remember that them, much like elena and her friends, are teenagers. they're going to make mistakes, do things, and act like idiots.

█⠀⠀⠀ LIFELINES . . . ⠀⠀⠀before anyone says it, cause i know someone will, hazel and sadie ARE indeed old oc's from an old teen wolf fanfic called lifelines! that fic was inspired by a dream i had of me and my best friend in teen wolf, and i have since put that fic in my google doc grave yard. but i missed hazel and sadie and their chaos SO much, and i knew for fall i wanted a tvd fic, and now we're here!! of course some details had to change to fit them into this story (sadie is no longer a mccall, we used book bonnie's last name instead), BUT don't worry, you'll get your own bits of their original story (if you even remember it, cause i barely do). i hope you guys are excited to see hazel and sadie, because YES, they are a comedic duo full of chaos and sarcasm and borderline stupidity. thank god for plot armor, otherwise damon would kill them both.
