Introduction

It's been a few years since we all been together in the same household. Everything has been different back then when my brothers were home.  We lived in a little house that supported the five members of my family. My mom was always home cooking while my dad and us kids were at school and work or out playing with our friends. I was more of a homebody, sitting at home and doing homework than actually playing with the boys.  If it wasn't for my brothers, I wouldn't be going out in general. I remember sitting up in my room doing homework as I heard the door creak open. I looked over to see a little peek of blond hair in the hallway. I huffed as I turned from the door and started to do my homework again. "I know your there Haruhi," I said, as chuckling entered the hallway. The door squeaked a little as to almost shut completely. Another giggle followed after that. "You can't find me" a little squeaky voice spoke, partially muffled by the door. I sighed as I picked up my pencil as I started to do the work again. "I'm busy with homework. I can't quite play at the moment" I said to make an excuse. The door opened more as running entered the room. Giggling rung through the air, as a body jumped on me and wrapped it's arms around me completely, making it hard to do my homework. "Come on, Iris. You've been doing homework all night and mom doesn't want you stressing out too much on it" he said, as I looked at him. "But. It's due tomorrow and I still have a lot to do" I said, trying to push my older brother off my shoulder.  Haruhi giggled as he just hung on me. "Come on. Don't you have some to do yourself?" I asked him as he sighed. "It's all done. I did it on the bus coming home" he said, as I sighed. I finally put my work down as I pushed him off me, then picked up my pencil again. "There. Now can I go back to my homework?" I asked as he shook his head. "No. I want you to play with me" he said, as I looked at him. "But isn't Yuzuki around to play with you?" I asked, hoping that he'll go annoy our older brother.  Haruhi sighed as he lied on the floor.

"Yuzuki is sleeping in his bed. He's really tired from practice" he said, as I sighed. I knew this was true. Both boys have been taking singing lessons from our music teacher in school. I wasn't into music as much as the boys were. I haven't had a clue what I wanted to do with my life, so I just lived life as it came to me. My main focus was growing up and graduating from school. I didn't want to be out playing with my brother's and my friends. So I just sat in my room and studied. I turned to look at Haruhi as he sat there Indian style. He pressed his feet up against each other while resting his hands on his ankles. He rocked back and forth as he had that face, the one that told me he wasn't losing this argument. I sighed as I turned away to do my work. "I still have to study. Don't you have to practice your singing some more?" I asked, hoping that would make him leave.  Did it work? Nope. "Mommy told us to rest our singing voices and not strain it.  That's why I'm not practicing at the moment" he said, as I looked at him. He sat there as he watched me. I turned back to my work as I sighed. "I'm just busy. This is due tomorrow and I need to get it done"  I said, as I tried to focus on my work. The room fell silent as to the fact that I thought he was done with the conversation. "Hey, Iris.  Look at this" he said, in an excited voice. I huffed as I turned back to look at him. "Haruhi, I don't have," I said, as I saw him giving me the puppy eyes. His big blue eyes glossed as the sun shined through the window, peeking onto them to make them a brighter blue. His little lip quivered as he sat there, every once in a while making a little sniffle sound.  I sighed as I looked at him with a stern look. "I told you. I had work to" I said, still gazing into his puppy dog eyes. I studied him as he tilted his head and started to whimper like he was a dog himself.

I bent to look him in the eye as I spoke. "No. I'm busy with homework" I said, making my voice stern and clear.  Haruhi wasn't affected by my tone of voice. He just sat there, as he still begged.  I looked him in the eye as I spoke. "I told you I have homework. Now go" I said, as I pointed to the door. Walking came closer as a yawn entered the room. "Why are you two fighting?" a tired Yuzuki spoke as he peeked the door open. Haruhi pointed at me as he spoke. "Sissy won't play with me.  She's still doing homework" he complained. I sighed as I turned to Haruhi. "I told you I have to get this done before tomorrow.  I don't have time to play with you" I said, as Haruhi sighed. "Remember, mom told us that we'll be on our own when we get older. We won't be able to play as much as we can now." I sighed as I studied him with a sad expression on my face.  I looked down as I spoke. "That's not going to be for a long time now. We'll still be able to play with each other. Now I have work to do" I said, as a huff came from Haruhi. Yuzuki walked up to my desk as he spoke. "What are you doing?" he asked as he peeked over at my work. "Math. I have to finish this paper, then onto reading" I said, as I turned back to my work. Yuzuki pointed to my last problem as he spoke "You did that wrong" he said, as I looked back at the problem. "But the answer is 9. I have the math right here" I said showing him my scrap paper.  Yuzuki looked at it as he spoke. "Your paper says 10. Did you try that?" he asked as I sighed. "No," I said, as I plugged ten into the problem. The computer pulled up a green checkmark, saying that it was right. I put my hand down in frustration as I spoke. "I'm being distracted by Haruhi too much. That's why I got it wrong before" I said, as Yuzuki sighed. "Maybe you need a break. Why don't you go play with Haruhi? He'll leave you alone after" he said, as I looked up at him.

"YUZUKI! Why are you taking his side?" I whined as Haruhi cheered.  Yuzuki chuckled as he spoke. "Because I'm sick of hearing him whine. It's getting annoying" he said as I looked at my work. "But, isn't this due tomorrow?" I asked, knowing I got to get this done. I was too stressed out already and now the boys weren't helping me. "Iris. Tomowor's Saturday. We don't have school tomorrow" he said, as I sighed.  I looked down at the floor as I spoke. "I kinda forgot that," I said, as I looked at the carpet from under me. Haruhi cheered as he wrapped his arms around me. "So can you play with me now?" he asked as I looked at him. I nodded as I spoke. "Fine. Let's go play" I said, as I followed the boys out of the room.

I lied on my bed watching tv as I thought back to that moment. The room was freshly cleaned by the housekeepers that were cleaning the rooms during the day. I took the day to look for a  job to get things going, but I had such a hard time finding one. Ever since our parents passed, I've been having a hard time. I kept losing my job and eventually I lost my parents house. The hotel manager was nice enough to let me stay in this room for a while, but I knew I couldn't keep this up any longer. I huffed as I flipped through the channels, leaving it on the music channel which was playing a music video. I watched the music video as I looked out the window. The childhood memory kept rolling through my mind, making me think of my older brothers.  "I wonder where their band is now?" I asked myself, as I focused on the song.  I watched as the cars of other guests came back and forth and the housekeeping cart rolled up in front of the door. "Wow, She's working fast today," I said, as a knock came onto the door. "Housekeeping?" the housekeeper said, as I got up and opened the door. "Good morning. Would you like service today?" she asked as I nodded. "Yep. Do what you got to do" I said, as I made room for her to walk in. She took her cattie and other things as she walked into the room and headed straight for the bathroom.  I sighed as I sat on the bed again when I noticed my phone ringing.  I looked at it to see that it was Haruhi calling.  I got up out of bed as I spoke. "I'm taking a call outside. No need to lock the door after" I said, as I exited the room. "Ok," the housekeeper called back from the other room.

I took a step outside as I answered the phone. "Hello?" I asked as the familiar chipper voice spoke. "Hello sissy," Haruhi said, in an upbeat tone.  "Haruhi. Great to hear from you. How's the band?" I asked as he sighed.  "Good.  We're in a big group with a couple of bands now" he said, as I heard another voice. It wasn't Yuzuki's but a deep voice that seemed grumpy. "Who are you talking to?" the voice asked, as Haruhi spoke. "My sister," he said, as I sighed. The phone muffled as he spoke. "So. How's it going?" he asked, as I sighed. "Good," I said, as I looked around. "It's been going good," I said, as I didn't want to describe my situation on the phone.  A moment of silence brushed across the phone as he spoke again. "Are you ok?" he asked as I spoke. "Yeah. I've been fine. No need to worry about me" I said, as silence swept across the phone once again. I looked out through the parking lot as Haruhi spoke. "Are you sure your ok? You don't sound so good" he said, as I looked at the rest of the hotel. I got the feeling that he was starting to catch onto the situation. I huffed as I smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just really happy to hear from you" I said, as silence took over once again. I felt a little tear roll down my cheek as I thought about what I was doing. I was lying to him.

Silence took over as he spoke again. "Iris, are you lying to me?" he asked as I huffed. I facepalmed, even though he couldn't see it. "You two always knew when I wasn't alright," I said, with a sigh. Tears poured down my cheeks a little more as he spoke. " Are you ok. You sound like your crying" he said as I sighed. "Yeah. Don't need to worry about me. I've been fine" I said, as he spoke. "Can I bring my group to see you?" he asked, as I stood shocked.  I nodded, even though he didn't see it. "Yeah. It will be good to see you guys again and meet your group" I said, as he sighed. "Great. Where do you live? You still at mom and dad's?" he asked as I started to tear up more.  I pulled my phone away from me as I covered my mouth, trying not to cry on the phone. "Iris?" he asked as I took a deep breath. "No, I moved," I said, as I chocked away the tears.  A short silence brushed across the phone. "Alright. Can you tell me where?" he asked, as I sighed. I took a deep breath as I told him.  I told him the hotel name and my room number.  Another silence as the sound of a pen scribbling entered the phone. "Alright, we're getting into town. What time would be good for you?" he asked as the room door opened and the housekeeper came out. "Anytime. I don't have to go anywhere at the moment" I said, as I waved thanks and went back into the room.  His voice got excited as he spoke. "What about in an hour or so? We just entered town and one of our friends wants lunch" he said, as I nodded. "That'll be good. I'll clean while I'm waiting" I said, as I shut the door.   Haruhi's voice turned upbeat for a moment. "Great, see you then," he said, as I smiled. "Yeah, see you then," I said, as he hung up. I pressed my back up against the door and slid down to the floor. "What are they going to think when they see this?" I said to myself. I looked around the room as I saw some of my things lying all over the place. I huffed as I got up. "Well, got to start picking some things up," I said as I put my phone down and got up, ready to do what I had to do.
