Chapter 16

I got dressed and prepared for the day ahead of me.  I didn't know what the plan for the day was yet, but I planned to make the best of it. I slapped a fresh pair of clothes on, then ran a brush through my hair. I took a deep breath as I walked over to the patio and looked out into the yard. I opened the door, feeling a slight breeze come into the room. It was slightly cool, but enough to make the air comfortable to be in without a jacket. I walked out onto the porch and looked up at the sky, seeing a bright blue sky with fluffy, white clouds drifting across it.  I studied the sky, as a knock came from the inside of the door. I walked back up to the sliding door. "It's open," I yelled into the room, before going back to the sky. The door opened as Haruhi popped his head into the room. "Hey, Iris. You ok in here?" he asked, as he walked into the room. I reentered the room and shut the sliding door. "Yeah. I'm ok, why?" I asked as he shrugged. "I dunno. Just making sure," he said, as I took a stretch.  "No, there's nothing wrong," I reassured him.  He nodded. "Ok, I'm just checking," he said, as I looked at him. "Do you wanna go for a walk? It's a nice day out," I said as my brother lit up. "Sure. You gotta let me know where we're going," he said, as we both headed out to the living room.

I followed him to the door and slipped my shoes on. Yuzuki walked into the room and studied us curiously. "Where are you two going?" he asked, as Haruhi shrugged. "Out for a morning walk," he replied as Yuzuki studied us. "Where'd you headed?" he asked, as I shrugged next. "I dunno. I'm just in the mood. Feel free to join us," I said as Yuzuki shook his head. "Not this time. I have things to do here," he said, as I cracked a smile. "Ok, I just thought I would suggest it," I said, as I turned to Haruhi. "I'm ready when you are," I said, with a smile. Haruhi nodded. "We'll be back," Haruhi yelled through the house. "Have a nice walk," Yuzuki yelled as we walked out of the house. We started to walk down the driveway and I glanced at Haruhi. "Where'd we headed?" I asked as Haruhi looked around the house. "I dunno. Is there anywhere you wanted to go?" he asked, as I shook my head. "I don't know this area, except for the park," I said, as Haruhi looked down the road. "Alright, so let's just take a right and figure out as we go. Sound good?" he asked, as I nodded. "I'm following you," I said, as we started to walk down the street.

I took a deep breath and took in the cool air.  It felt nice to be outside, but it was a tad bit warmer than what it felt like on the patio.  I exhaled with a sigh as I looked around. "What a beautiful day," I said, as Haruhi turned to me. "I don't remember you liking the outdoors as much as this," he said, as I chuckled. "I got used to it, even when I was in a hotel," I explained as Haruhi studied me. "Iris, just between you and I. Was there any time when you had to sleep outside?" he asked as I nodded. "Once or twice. But the owner let me sleep under one of the roofs," I explained. Haruhi took a deep breath as he looked ahead of us. "Was there anytime that you weren't alloud on property?" he asked as I shook my head. "Not really. Some hotel's only let me stay for a night," I explained. Haruhi nodded. "At least they let you stay for a night," he said, as we continued around the corner.

I turned to Haruhi as I studied him. "So, where'd you decide to go?" I asked as he looked at me. "Just around the block. I thought of not making it a long one," he said, as I nodded. "Sounds good to me. I'm just glad I have someone to join me," I said, as I elbowed him in the arm. Haruhi laughed. "After last night, where you were out for hours. I thought I would join you so you didn't get lost," he said, as I gave him a look. "What?" he asked, as I chuckled. "Did you join me because you wanted to? Or because you and Yuzuki have something planned?" I asked, as he cracked a huge smile. He nervously chuckled. I placed my hands on my hips. "You guys are planning something, aren't you?" Haruhi cracked a big smile. "We love you Iris," he said, sounding innocent. "Baby swaddle?" I asked, as he darted a look at me. "You won't be able to escape," he said, as I took a deep breath. "I'll let you do it when we get back, if you like," I said, as Haruhi chuckled. "Uh Iris, that's why Yuzuki didn't come," he said, as I looked at him. "You two are evil," I said, as he chuckled. "Love you little sis," he said, as I chuckled. "Love you too.  I guess," I said, like I was starting to talk to myself. Haruhi's eyes became huge. "What does that supposed to mean?" he yelled in the air.  "That I think I love you," I said, as he put his hands on his hips. "You think?" he asked as I chuckled. "You know I love you. I moved in with you," I pointed out.  Haruhi glared at me. "What?" I asked, as he approatched. "Get over here," he said, as he started to tickle me. I chuckled. "Not here. You already are tourturing me when I get back," I said, recovering from laughter.

"Morning Haruhi," a female's voice said from the left of me. We both stopped to look at a woman standing on her porch. She was an elderly woman, about the age of eighty. She had short, curly grey hair and wore a pink summer dress and a yellow, silk shall. She waked off the porch and joined us on the other side of a white picket fence. "Morning, Mrs. Cassidy," Haruhi said cheerfully as the woman approatched. The woman smiled at my brother. "Out for a morning walk I see," she said, as Haruhi nodded. "Yeah, perfect day for one," he said, as the the woman looked at me.  "What a pretty girl you have here. You two been together long?" she asked I looked at my brother. Haruhi chuckled as he shook his head. "No. This is my sister, Iris," he introduced me with. The woman looked at me shocked. "You were the sister looking after the mother," she said, putting her thoughts together. I nodded. "Yes. I looked after our mom so that the boys could be in Killer King," I explained. Mrs. Cassidy looked at me in shock. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your loss," she said, as she turned back to Haruhi. "You boys are being nice to her, aren't you?" she asked, as Haruhi chukled. "Yes, we are," he said, as Mrs. Cassidy chuckled. "Well, I won't keep the two of you waiting. It was a pleasure to meet you Iris. Keep those boys in line, alright?" she said, as I chuckled. "I will. It was nice to meet you too," I said, as we continued to walk.

I looked at Haruhi as I cracked a smile. "She seems nice. Is she a neighbor?" I asked. Haruhi nodded as he pointed at the white house next to us. It was a small, white house with a porch in front of it. The porch had a couple of chairs and white summer lilies in front of it. A stone walkway led from the porch steps to a white picket fence that border the property. The house had a cozy feel to it, something that reminded me of home.  I looked at the house in awe. "She lives in a pretty house. Her husband must take good care of her," I said as I smiled. Haruhi took a huff. "Actually Iris. Her husband died a couple of years ago," he expanded. I looked at him in shock. "She lives all alone? That's so sad," I said, as I looked ahead of us. Haruhi sighed. "Yeah, she had a hard time. But B-project helps her out as much as we can. Just the other day, Moons dropped off a basket of food for her. We didn't tell her though." I turned to him. "Why didn't you? She probably would've wanted to know," I said as he looked at me. "She's kinda like you. Don't like to accept help." I narrowed my eyes at him. "What does that mean?" I asked, knowing where he was going.  Haruhi swung an arm around me and rubbed my head. "She's too confident. Doesn't like to ask for help." I stopped as I studied him. "So, you're saying that I should lean on you and Yuzuki more?" I asked as he turned to me. "One phone call and you would've avoided the hotel," he said, as I sighed. "You're still mad about that," I said, more to myself than him.  "Of course. What would you do if Yuzuki and I were in that position?" he asked as I huffed. "I'd would've done the exact same thing."  Haruhi smiled and put his head up high. "I proved my point," he said, as I chucked. "Show off," I said, under my breath. Haruhi shot me a look. "I heard that," he said, with a chuckle.

I took a deep breath. "Too bad Yuzuki's busy. It's so nice out here," I said, as Haruhi cleared his throat. "Yeah, he would've enjoyed it, but he likes to stay in sometimes too." I chuckled. "And you say stuff when I work too much," I said, to pick on him again. Haruhi turned to me. "Only Yuzuki takes breaks," he said, trying to pick on me again. I turned to him. "Alright, I will try to not be a workaholic anymore," I said, acting depressed. Haruhi cracked a huge smile. "Aha, I win," he said, as I sighed. "I'm out of here," I said, as I took off in a brisk run. Haruhi started up after me. "Wait, Iris," he shouted as he took off running behind me. I stopped as I waited for him to catch up. "I thought you were gonna leave me," he said, as I chuckled. "I was gonna," I said, as we continued on our walk back home.
