Chapter 12

I silently walked down into the basement as a crack was heard, following by muffled voices. I couldn't hear what was being said, but I could tell that Haruhi was still upset. I studied the door as I started to get closer with each step. Another crack entered the hallway. "Oh, why?" Haruhi said, his voice echoed through the hallway. I slowly walked up the door as I studied the handle. I reached to open it up, then stopped to think. Maybe this was a bad thing. I looked up at the door as another crack was heard. "You are really out of it today," Kento's muffled voice spoke. I sighed as I looked up at the door again. I reached my hand up as I silently knocked on the door, but didn't want to say anything. I took a deep breath as I looked at the door. "The door's open," Haruhi's voice spoke up. I took a deep breath as I turned the handle and entered the room. Kento looked up as he started to take his turn at their game. Haruhi looked up at me silently. I closed the door behind me, as I studied the two again. "Hi," I said, as I walked more into the room. Haruhi still was silent. Kento nodded a hi as he took his turn. The cracking sound erupted the room. "I win," he said, as Haruhi sighed. "Not my best shots. But it was a good game," he said, as he and Kento shook hands. I studied them in silence, watching Haruhi round up the balls and Kento walking up to me. "Hello, Iris," he said, as I looked at him funny. "Don't even try. I'm not in the mood," I said, knowing he was going to flirt. Kento's smile dropped the instant I spoke. He took a deep breath. "That's upsetting. I wasn't going to make it awkward," he said, disappointedly. Haruhi stared in our direction. "What's awkward is that you'll do it, even though her older brother is right behind you," he said, making Kento turn around. "For a moment, I forgot you were in here," he said, jokingly. Haruhi narrowed his eyes on Kento. "Don't even," he said, as he lifted his pool stick up. Kento sighed. "Alright. I'm walking upstairs now. You can disarm your stick," he said, as I hid a laugh. Haruhi lowered his stick as he grabbed a chalk square. Kento smiled as he walked out of the room.

I looked back to Haruhi as he turned to me. "What's up?" he said, as he started to coat his stick. I leaned up against the wall. "I wanna talk," I said, my tone serious. Haruhi looked at me. "Alright," he said as he lifted up a triangle. "But we're doing it over a game of pool," he said, placing it in the middle of the table. He started to set the game up as he grabbed the other stick. I walked over to him as I grabbed it. "Your move," he said, as he walked away from the table. I walked up to the table as I went to take my turn. "I see you are still upset," I said, as I took my turn. Haruhi sighed. "Oh yeah I am," he said, as I made room for him. He got around the table to take his. "Why? Did you think he was going to hurt me with you right there?" I asked. Haruhi shook his head. "He wasn't going to hurt you." I took my next move. "Do you know that for sure? He was fisting his hands and everything," I said as Haruhi looked at me. "Because he's not that type of person. Yeah, he yells a lot. But from what I learned about B-project is that Goushi acts tough but doesn't act upon it," he said, as I looked at him. "How do you know that for sure?" I asked. Haruhi sighed. "Because he helped me protect Tsbasa before," he said, as I went again. "Would you hit him if he continued?" I asked. Haruhi didn't hesitate. "Depends how your reaction is. Look, you've been through a lot with the constant moving. You've been having a hard time and his yelling was bringing you down even more. I don't know if you know it but I wouldn't have sat there and watched you get depressed even more," he said sternly. I took a deep breath as I thought. "Did you think that me moving in was too much for B-Project?" I asked, sounding down.

Haruhi looked up at me in shock, his stick almost falling out of his hand. "Iris," he said, his voice calm. I studied him for a moment, took a deep breath, and looked away. Haruhi took his turn. "No one thinks that. Yeah, it's a lot on B-Project and it's a bit to adjust to. But everyone doesn't mind you being here. Yuzuki and I can focus on work a little more because you here," he explained. I took another shot. "But I just feel like I'm getting in the way," I started to say but Haruhi cut me off. "You're not getting in the way. Everything's going to get better now. For everyone," he said, as I looked at him. "How can you say that? Look what happened today on the walk. You and Goushi almost had a fistfight. Me being here is just going to bring everyone down. I don't want to cause trouble," I said, as Haruhi took a deep breath. "Ok. First of all, Goushi and I would never take it above a verbal fight. Second, everyone at work noticed a difference in us. We're working a lot better because we know you'd be here. Yeah it's a little rough at the moment, but it's going to get better," he said, as I dropped the stick. "How do you know that?" I asked, looking him straight in the eye. When I did, I felt a tear leave mine. Haruhi took a deep breath. "Because you are finally under a roof that has no limit. No one will kick you out," he said, as I shook my head. "How do you know that?" I asked him again. He sighed to keep himself from yelling. "Because we promised each other. We made a promise the night of the pool tournament after you went to bed. Even Tsubasa came down for it." I looked at him in shock. I could feel a tear stream down my cheek.

We were both quiet for a moment. I stared at Haruhi as I started to cry a little more. "Then why do I feel like I'm going to bring everyone down," I said, finally speaking how I felt. Haruhi walked up to me as he tried to wrap me in a hug, but I stepped back. He looked at me with worry in his eye. "Iris. It's going to be ok," he said, as I shook my head. "Do you know that for sure?" I asked. Haruhi took a deep breath. "I got a good feeling about it," he said, as I studied him. "How do you know that?" I asked him again. Footsteps walked into the room. "Because B-Project is a big family and your part of that family," Kento said as he walked back into the room. I turned around to study him. He looked at Haruhi then at me again. "Sorry, I was listening outside," he said, as he leaned against the wall. Haruhi shook his head. "That's fine. But he's right, Iris," he said as I turned back to him. "We still have a big family. Yeah, mom and dad aren't with us anymore. But B-Project is. Everyone in B-Project, even Tsubasa is part of our family now and because of that, everything's going to be alright. Trust me," he said, as he cracked a smile.

I cracked a smile back as I took a deep breath. "Are you still mad at Goushi?" I asked, curious. Haruhi shrugged. "Kinda. But I'm starting to calm down now. We should be back to normal in the morning," he said, as Kento sighed. "Usually the fighting doesn't last long around here," he said, as Haruhi looked at him. "Usually we don't fight. But when we do, it usually only lasts one night," he explained as he turned back to me. "I promise. Everything's going to be fine," he said, again. I took a deep breath as I looked up at him again. He cracked a little smile. I smiled back but lost it completely. I looked down at the floor again. "Should I leave?" I asked, thinking about the fight again. Haruhi sighed. "If you want. We'll see you later," he said, but I shook my head. "That's not what I," I started to say, but stopped in mid-sentence. I took a deep breath. "I'm sorry," I said, as I turned around and started to walk out of the room. My footsteps echoed as I walked to the doorway. I stopped at the door. "I'm sorry for interrupting," I said, as I shut the door and started to walk up the stairs.

I walked into my room just long enough to put on my shoes and slip on my hoodie. Haruhi started to yell through the grate. "Iris, please answer me," his voice echoed in the square opening. My thoughts drowned out his voice. I walked out of my room and into the living room as I slipped on my hoodie. "Iris, is everything ok?" Yuzuki asked as I walked through the room. I stopped at the sound of his voice. I turned to the group. "Yeah, just need to get out of the house. I'll be back later," I said, as I opened up the door and started to exit the house. "But, it's nine," he asked worriedly. I stood in the doorway. "It's not gonna be all night. I'll be back in a little bit," I said, as I started to close the door. "Iris, do you want me to come with you?" he asked, with worry in his voice. I shook my head. "No. I just want to be alone for a while. I'll be back," I said, as I closed the door and walked off the porch.

I started to walk down the street as the door opened up again and footsteps followed behind me. "Yuzuki, I want to be a," I said but stopped in mid-sentence at the sight of Kazuna slowly walking behind me. I sighed. "Sorry. I just wanna be alone right now," I silently said. Kazuna started to walk up closer. "Alright. I'll be silent but I'm going with you," he said, as we both started to walk down the street. "You seriously don't need to come. I was planning on coming back," I said, as he cracked a smile. "Ok. I'll return when you do," he said which confused me. I took a deep breath as I looked up at the sky, seeing a black platform with stars lighting it up. I looked back at Kazuna as I huffed. "Alright. But not if it's going to affect your work," I said, as I turned back around and headed for the street. "Well, that depends on how long you stay out. I left with you, I'm returning with you," he said, as I looked at him. He studied me, determined about his decision. I took a deep breath as I started to walk. "Alright. Let's go," I said, as I turned around and started to walk.

Kazuna walked by me as he sighed. "I'm going to be silent. But feel free to talk to me anytime. I'll stay out as long as you want," he said, as looked at him. "Are you doing this because Yuzuki is making you?" I asked, starting to get suspicious. He shook his head. "Nope. I'm doing it because I want to," he said as he cracked a smile. I took a deep breath as I looked back up ahead. I slipped on my hood as we both continued in silence.
