Chapter 35 - "Keeping a Secret..."
Chapter 35 - "Keeping a Secret..."
Jenna's PoV
'I don't understand? How is this a good idea?'
'You just have to listen to what the fans want. And your a good actress... While you wouldn't be playing the characters in a relationship... You would be giving the audience an enigma' Steven said.
'I'm just not sure that it's a good idea' I said a bit dubious but very much wanted the job.
'Your agent agrees'
'We have the same bloody agent... Of course she would agree' I muttered. 'Anyone would agree too it'
'Just do the audition. We might find someone better, but I personally am going with you. Plus the character is called Clara! How well would it work'
I sighed. I do want the job.
'Okay. Okay' I said. 'I'll do the audition'
- - -
'So when do you get to audition with the auditionees?' I asked Matt.
'Couple of weeks. Steven wants to audition each person individually first and then see how we work together'
'Come on Autumn. Let's go to the nursery' I said to my 7 month old baby who was oblivious to everything around her.
'Whys she going to the nursery today?'
'Well I'm going out and don't particularly want to have her with me'
'Okay well I'm on a night shoot tonight for the Christmas special so will you pick her up?'
'Yeah. After I'm done' I said. I hated lying to him, but I didn't want to tell him yet and technically I'm not actually aloud.
I snuck onto the BBC set, and went to the main reception. I didn't say anything because I knew Steven would be out soon, and the one good thing is that he will recognise me.
I was not really prepared at all for this kind of audition, but it went okay.
It was one of those auditions where you just get props thrown at you and you have to pretend like you know what your doing.
It didn't go so bad. I had to admit, but thought I had blown it when I walked out - of course it's down to the chemistry on screen though isn't it? It's not about anything else.
- - -
It of course wasn't long before I got the call of being worked down into the last 5 which meant that I got to act with Matt today.
I wasn't sure how well he would take it - but we're both professionals I guess. He's just still depressed about the fact that Karen and Arthur had both decided to leave the show next year.
He was on another shoot again the day I went in to audition with him, so I went down to set with him while he shot the final few things for the Christmas special (not that he knew I was auditioning with him) but Steven said he had, had an idea for my character and that the public would need to find out after Christmas so that I could come to set without suspicion.
I just went along with it.
'Stay here. Just need to film this. Then I'm going upstairs okay? You should have waited in my trailer to be honest but that's fine' he shrugged giving me a quick peck and ran off.
I watched Matt as he knocked on the big blue door and smirked as I was on the other side as well and grinned as Karen got into character.
'I swear if that is more carol singers I have a water pistol'
Matt just smirked and knocked again, clearly antagonising Amy.
'You don't want to be all wet on a night like this' she said threateningly poking the water pistol at his chest.
'Not absolutely sure... How long...'
'Two years?' She snapped squirting him with the water him anyway.
'Okay. Fair point' he shrugged wiping his face.
'So... Your not dead?'
'And a happy new year' John grinned holding his hands in the air happily.
'River told us' she said with a raised eyebrow.
'Well of course she did' Matt mumbled.
'She's a good girl. Well? I'm no going to hug first' she said stubbornly.
'Nor am I'
It was quite funny how they awkwardly ignored each other. Their eyes meet and the smirked before laughing and pulling each other into a hug.
'Cut. Well call it there. That's pretty much a wrap on the Christmas special this year. Congratulations everyone' the director yelled. 'Party at the normal place tonight' he smirked, as everyone hugged and high fives and compliments were made and I snuck out.
- - -
'Okie dokie. Just pretend like your a regular person?' Steven joked as I stood at the front of the room and we all waited for Matt to walk in.
He evidently did with a cup of coffee in his hand and stuffed half a sandwich whilst looking at seven.
'First auditionee is here' Steven smirked as Matt wiped the mayo off his mouth and turned around.
'Where?'
'I'm right here you moron' I scoffed.
'You?' He stuttered.
'Yes me. What do you think?' I said nervously.
'That this will be a terrible idea. How can we be in the same programme together as two friends when we are definitely not friends in real life?' He asked looking now at Steven.
'Clara Oswald - the character - well she meets the doctor and totally fancies him. And he fancies her back but he doesn't really know it: the doctor isn't good with love. He just picks up the first not chick he sees. It will work because you two have great chemistry and think how crazy the fans will go?'
'Are people not going to think that I got her the job?'
'No. Because she's starting afresh as the companion. Not as Matt Smiths Girlfriend' he said rolling his eyes.
'I haven't actually got the job yet. This was supposed to be a screen test' I sighed.
'A screen test we all know we're going to pass' Matt said, just as confused as I was.
'Look. I think this could work. Let's run the scene - bit I think the chemistry will totally keep the fans on their toes. They would never expect something like this' Steven smirked.
