You're Gonna Lose That Girl - The Beatles {Song-Shot 1 of 4}
A/N Two weeks and a day ago, it was the fiftieth anniversary of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. I had planned to write four one shots and post them by then for this, but obviously I'm a terrible person, a horrible procrastinator, and a busy human being. So, I'm posting these now. See if you can figure the trend with the four by the time this is over! Enjoy!
----------
I’ll make a point of taking her away from you, yeah. The way you treat her, what else can I do?
----------
“What do you want?” Lance spat at the guy who dared to come near his hangout at the park.
“Stop treating Abbey like dirt,” the guy said.
“Why do you care?” Lance snapped at him. “Who are you, anyway?”
“I’m her friend. Do you know how much she wishes you would act like a normal couple, one that goes on dates and isn’t afraid to say they’re together?” the boy asked him.
“Why do you care?” Lance asked him. Then, it hit him. He smirked. “You like her,” he said.
“Maybe I do,” the boy said. “But that doesn’t mean anything right now. You’ve got to treat her right, okay?”
Lance walked over to him. “Oh yeah?” he asked. As he poked the guy’s chest, he said, “And what are you going to do about it?”
“If you don’t treat her right, you’re going to lose her. I’ll treat her right, and you’ll be the one who’s missing her,” the guy said, not even stepping down for a second.
“You little-,” Lance began, but the guy just walked away. “Where are you going?”
“My name’s John, by the way,” the guy called back to him as he walked away. “And take my advice or you’re gonna lose that girl of yours.”
----------
“I don’t know what to do, John,” a girl around John’s age said to him. “Lance was so nice to me at first, but now he doesn’t even seem to want to be seen with me.” She looked at him. "Did I do something wrong?"
“He’s an idiot, Abbey,” John told her.
“John,” Abbey began, “he’s not an idiot.”
“Yes he is!" John threw his hands in the air. "Abbey, he's blind! He can't see how lucky he is to have a girl as amazing as you!" He looked her straight in the eyes and said, "He treats you like dirt. You deserve better."
"John..." Abbey began again, but trailed off.
"Abbey, when was the last time you did something that you wanted to do?"
"I...I don't know. I can't remember," Abbey said softly.
"When was the last time you two went on a date in the first place?"
Abbey went silent again. She looked at her hands and shrugged her shoulders, not remembering a time in the past few months at least.
"Exactly," John said. "Abbey, make me a promise," he said.
"What?" Abbey said, looking up at him again.
"Give Lance one week. If he doesn't change, break it off because he never will," John said.
"Why do you care so much?" Abbey asked him.
"Does it matter?" John asked her.
"I guess not," Abbey said. "I'll tell you what happens in a week," she told him.
"Okay," John said, getting up. "Bye, Abbey," he said, going to her door.
"Bye, John," she said, and he walked out. She shut the door behind him, his words still ringing in her mind.
John, liking her? That wasn't possible. But it sure did seem like that, with everything he was saying. It was uncharacteristically...kind. Was this her John? Or was this some impostor?
She pushed all these thoughts out of her mind and went to get some coffee to clear her head.
----------
"Abbey?" John knocked on the door, calling to the girl that he could see in the nearby bay window.
Abbey ran to the door. "John," she said with a smile once she saw him. She opened the door and let him in.
"What happened?" John asked her, as he stepped inside.
"I waited a week, like you said. He didn't change one bit," Abbey said.
"Did you leave him?" John asked, his voice sounding a bit too excited.
"I just called him and said it's done," Abbey said. Instead of sounding sad, like John expected, she sounded actually relieved and happy.
John's lips curved into a smile. "Good."
Abbey smiled and leaned over to kiss his cheek. "You're a great friend, John. Thank you."
John smiled a bit, and said, "Hey, Abbey, want to go to the park or something?"
Abbey nodded. "Sure," she said. "Let's go." She grabbed onto his hand and went outside with him.
John walked with her down the street, billions of thoughts flooding his mind. Abbey wasn't with that jerk, Lance, anymore, and was completely free. “So, what are you going to do now?” he asked.
“What do you mean?” Abbey asked.
“Well, you’re not with Lance anymore, so what are you thinking of doing now that you’re free?” John explained.
Abbey paused for a minute, needing to think about it. "Probably just doing what I normally do," she said. "Hanging out with you, working on my music, all that stuff."
John nodded, and they kept walking together. They got to the park and walked down a few paths. They kept chatting softly about the most random things, laughing quite a bit.
They were near Lance’s hangout when John stopped. Completely knowing where he was, he leaned over and kissed Abbey gently. Abbey was surprised, but kissed back.
Just as John pulled away, Lance walked up and saw them. His eyes were huge. “What the-,” he began, but John cut him off.
“I said you were gonna lose her if you didn’t treat her right,” John said, as he looked over at him. Then, he and Abbey walked away together, leaving Lance staring after them, wondering why he had let her go.

A/N So, I hope you liked this one. There's three more on the way, and I hope they'll already be posted by the time you're done reading it.
By the way, if you noticed that it was the name John, it's the name John. The character is not John Lennon. The following characters are not actually going to be one shots with the real ones. I picked four songs that were sung by one of the four, and used the name of the singer as the main guy. It's not John Lennon, and the other three aren't Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. (This is mainly a note to my friend, by the way.)
Hope you enjoyed this one, and I hope you enjoy the next three!
Noel
