Their Other Half
How was it possible that this day had arrived already? The day she would marry her best friend. Technically speaking they already acted like a couple who have been married for years beforehand, this is more along the lines of making it officially official. Was this really happening? Was she really getting ready to walk down the aisle and tie the knot with the boy she's known her whole life? Looks like it. Yet, Feister couldn't help but feel like the moment she began that walk she would wake up and find herself laying in her old bedroom at the Lodge, the boys causing their usual morning ruckus and that burning feeling in her stomach at the memory that Mush was seeing some other girl.
How awful would it be to find out that she had made everything up. How real it all felt. But it was a silly thought. She knew it was the nerves getting the better of her. Which is weird considering again, she's already spent her entire life with Mush. It's not like anything serious would change. Well, aside from the fact they would be living in their first apartment with no roommates in the future. And the oh so fun kids talk. Then again, both of those things had been somewhat agreed on. At the moment she and Brooklyn had moved into Mush and Blink's apartment just a week before the wedding. A series of break ins had occurred in the building, and out of pure fear, and a little coaxing from the boys, the two of them moved into Mush and Blink's place.
The kid part however was simple enough. Feister didn't want kids until they both had their life on track. Meaning after college, their own place and hopefully good jobs. Mush felt the same way. If fate would have it she would get knocked up before any of that they would still be happy all the same. Maybe a little shocked and scared on Feister's part, but it was reassuring that Mush was on the same page as her when it came to that. So that eased her mind.
And it's also not the point. The point right now was getting ready. Naturally, Katherine and Brooklyn were her hair and makeup team. And she helped with their hair, being an expert at braiding and all. Seeing as it was summer Feister didn't want her hair down, but the two girls insisted on at least a half up style. Which she was fine with since everything would be indoors. So Katherine went to work on a half up style. Of course, on either side of her head there were dutch braids that connected in the back and into a single braid while the rest of her hair flowed down in perfect wavy curls.
Brooklyn was on makeup duty. According to her, nothing said romantic like a pink and gold look with glossy lips to match. It still amazed Feister how much effort went into makeup. Now that she's older she can manage to do a few looks on her own, but for something like this requires a hand that was used to the brush work and blending of shades. The three of them wore normal pjs seeing as it would be a waste of money to get matching robes that's in every getting ready photos. Speaking of which, the only other person who was with the girls was Crutchie, who had claimed ages ago he would take the photos and videos. Saying it was his contribution to make, and I quote, "the long awaited day extra special".
"And here's our lovely bride to be getting all dolled up," Crutchie said as he brought the video camera for a close up of what was happening. "How're you feelin' Feisty?"
"Dunno if I can explain that," Feister replied with a light, airy laugh. A sign that she was nervous. But no one said anything about it, knowing that if they did, she'd end up panicking and the one person who could calm her down was the groom. "Feels like I'm gonna wake up from a dream and toss my guts up at the same time," she admitted.
"Well at least you'll look pretty doing it," Brooklyn replied. Clearly Albert's sense of humor has rubbed off on her. Which was more than ok at the moment because Feister certainly didn't mind. Oddly enough it somehow eased her swirling stomach.
"Highly doubt I will," Feister replied. The next few minutes she sat still while the two girls worked on her hair and makeup. At the same time Crutchie switched between videotaping and taking pictures. In the background, music played over the speaker,
There was a good hard knock on the door. Before she could say anything Brooklyn placed the makeup brush down and headed over to take a peak at who was on the other side. A few words were exchanged, but it was hard to make out what was being said. All Feister really knew was that she was the one who was wanted. Getting up from the chair with wariness in her eyes, she opened the door wider to see Race, Albert, Kid Blink and Jojo were standing there. Naturally Blink was the only one in a suit while the other boys were dressed in nicer clothes. The only thing they had in common was that their sleeves were rolled up to their elbows since it is mid-summer.
Kid Blink cleared his throat while Jojo dramatically pulled out a scroll out from his back pocket and opened it by holding one end and letting the rest roll down. At the same time Race and Albert started to each play a plastic trumpet which she could only assume was a sorry attempt at the opening theme for every Star Wars movie. Leaning one shoulder against the doorframe she crossed her arms in pure amusement. If it were any other day she would've snapped at them and slammed the door, but curiosity seemed to have gotten the better of her. Because even this was too much for them.
"To the lovely bride, I, Kid Blink of the house of Blink, hereby present to you a letter on behalf of Mush Meyers from the house of Meyers. It was a long journey, but as the wing/middle/best/man, it is my duty to make sure that idiot's head is on straight. In which forth-
"I don't think that's grammarly correct," Race muttered.
"Oh shut up blondie," Albert and Jojo shot back.
"The only way to ease thy mind was to send a message to his one true love before the forever knot is tied."
"He does realize textin' exists, right?" Feister asked.
"There's bad reception in our room," Kid Blink replied in an obvious tone as he handed her the letter.
"Is that what you're wearin' down the aisle?" Albert asked. "I know you're not a dress up kind of girl and all but ain't that a little too casual for-"
"Goodbye boys. Tell the idiot I love him too." and with that being said Feister closed the door and proceeded to make her way over to the bed, where she plopped down with ease. Carefully she opened up the envelope seal and pulled out the piece of paper inside. Once she opened it she was met with small, delicate, letters that had a mix of print and cursive handwriting.
Dear Feisty,
Hope this finds you well, and that nobody (I'm looking at you Racer, Al, and Jojo) didn't take a peak. I'm already getting made fun of enough as it is. But, the thing is, I don't care. I don't care because, hey, I'm in love and about to get married to the most amazing, beautiful, one of a kind girl that drives me all kinds of crazy. Feisty, if someone were to tell me that I was gonna fall for the girl with braids who has the loudest mouth in the entire world, I'd laugh and say you're completely insane. Well ok, maybe I am a little insane for going through with this, but it's what I love most about you. You always keep me guessing.
No matter how angry we get at each other or how much of a mess you think you look, I still love and think you're the most gorgeous girl in the entire world. The only girl for that matter. And I can't want to spend the rest of my life with you. To fall asleep every night with you beside me. To wake up the next morning with you in my arms. The first and last person I see. you're my one and only. My other half. The person who keeps me grounded. The one I can count on to have my back. I need you Feisty. More than I can explain. I'm counting down the minutes till the moment we say I do. Never thought this day would actually happen, but look where we are now. Over ten years later after all the ups and downs life has thrown we're finally getting married. Or should I say, the day the boys have been waiting for since we met. For once, I don't mind that they're right. We really are meant to be.
I love you so much Feisty. No matter how annoyed you get at me saying that every other second I'm not gonna stop.
Mush.
By the end of the letter Feister was near tears. The happy kind of course, though she did her best to hold herself together, it was near impossible not to let a few slip out. Her emotions were running so high it was hard to control them anymore. Gently her hand ran over the paper, stopping at where he signed his name. And, like so many times before, she traced his name with a single finger a few times. It was like holding him near even when he was on the opposite side of the hotel.
As ridiculous as the delivery of the letter was, it only added to the fact that Mush is the type of guy who believes in the old fashioned way of winning a girl's heart. Handwritten notes, offering to carry her bag, books, and so on. Kisses on the hand and other old timey stuff like that. She found it all sickly sweet and would often roll her eyes, but deep down Feister didn't mind the small gestures. It was just one of the many things she would never say aloud or risk him getting a bigger head.
"Love ya too, idiot," she mumbled to herself, completely forgetting there were not only other people in the room, one of them having access to a video camera.

"Mission accomplished lover boy!" Kid Blink announced as he entered into the boys' hotel room with Race, Albert and Jojo trailing behind him. "Who's the best wingman in the entire world? Me. the correct answer is me with all the ringers, twists and turns you put me through cause of that girl." he rambled. "We're just friends." Blink mimicked Mush's voice. "I don't like her like that. And now look, you're about to spend the rest of your life with the girl who's just a friend."
"Are ya done?" Mush asked, clearly unamused by Blink's little ramble.
"Hate to break it to ya, but I'll never let ya live it down."
"I don't think any of us will," Albert added.
"Just like how I'll never let you forget you're datin' my sister," Mush pointed out.
"Don't you dare turn this around on me. It's your weddin' day."
This was all in good fun. Now that time has passed by Mush doesn't mind the fact his sister and Albert are dating as much as he used to. Anyone could see the two of them are in love as any couple can get. Besides, it eased his mind knowing Brooklyn was with someone he knew rather than a random bummer he didn't. Plus, if Jack deals with old man Pulizter breathing down his neck, then he can deal with the whole Albert and Brooklyn thing no problem. Though at times his brotherly instincts do kick in. Then Feister smacks it away and drags him somewhere to either distract him with kisses or lecture him about staying out of Brooklyn's love life.
Either way, Feister's still cute. He loves it when she gets mad, even if it means he meets his grave. But the times she's extra sweet are the times that he wants to engrave in his mind. It isn't often that she shows her softer side, even with him, but when she does it's something special. It's her secret way of saying she trusts him enough to let her guard down. During their engagement that varied. More often than not she was still her same old self, but those walls she had built around herself weren't as unbreakable as they used to be.
Now look. He was about to get married to the girl. Either he has gone insane or is a complete sap for her. The obvious answer is both. He's an insane sap. It must have been written in the stars or something to have caused this. But he's not complaining. Mush considers himself lucky to have met Feister when he was seven years old. He got to understand her on a whole other level. Watch her grow into the beautiful young woman she is today.
Taking in a deep breath he started to get ready again. Which didn't exactly take as much effort as he assumed the girls were doing. Just shower, shave, cologne, and suit up. Simple enough. A few minutes later Crutchie came in with his camera equipment in tow. He started to switch from pictures and videotaping like he did with the girls, making sure to capture some laugh worthy moments (aka, pure ridiculousness) from the boys, which he knew Feister would appreciate. No matter how much time goes by, when they've all got girls of their own and kids, there was no doubt in any of their minds that they would always be Feister's boys. And she'd always be their girl. That was the one thing that would never change.
"How's it feel Mushy?" Race asked, patting the younger boy on the back. "You're bout to be a married man.
"Are ya gonna faint?" Kid Blink asked. "I'll catch ya if ya do but seriously, are ya gonna pass out?"
"I ain't gonna faint," Mush shot back. It wasn't the first time the joke was made. It went as far as one of the boys suggesting that they duct tape a pillow to his butt to cushion the fall. Which he wasn't going to do. Sure he's a sap, but Mush likes to think there is a clearly drawn line as to where that ends. So what he was shocked the first time he saw her hair down, or the time she wore a skirt on their first date. Homecoming where she came out wearing pink and prom night....gosh she looked gorgeous all decked out in navy blue. Her eyeshadow was the same color as the dress, making her big brown eyes look wider than normal.
Those long, dark waves, her lips the perfect shade of nude pink, and....yup he was probably going to feel like a stupid lovestruck seventeen year old all over again. But at this point he has some idea on what to expect. Simple white dress. He knew Feister wouldn't want to do an over the top, princess floor length gown. In fact if he knew her as well as he thinks he does then the wedding dress will be a few inches above the ground and by the time the reception rolls around the skirt will be a detachable one. Trading in the long for something short and, in Feister's words, "bearable".
Who would've thought he'd ever see Feister exploring her girly side. Though Mush knew deep down it would still be a rare occurrence. She would still wear her braids on a daily basis, sometimes a ponytail if she was lazy. She would steal his shirts and hoodies, wear crop tops with high waisted shorts. She would still call him Mush brains, annoy him at every chance she got and not back down when someone challenged her. That's the girl he fell in love with. And would continue to love her until the end of time.
The get ready process went by in a blur. More pictures were taken as well as clips for the video when the next thing Mush knew was that they were heading out. The boys had departed once they had arrived, going to find their seats and their girls if they had been allowed a plus one. Apparently being in a stable relationship didn't mean Feister would stop throwing hands if a girl had wronged one of her boys. She still didn't trust outsiders easily and took the longest to accept new girlfriends. You would think with Feister being the only girl in the group the longest she would be the most welcoming. In any other situation, that would be the case. But this is Feister we're talking about. She had disliked Katherine at the beginning and was wary of the Jacobs brothers. Was even stand-offish with Brooklyn, but the freckled girl had gotten off easily being Mush's twin. That was about the only exception.
With everyone seated Mush stood at the end of the aisle as soft piano music was played in the background. Soon, the music took a slight change, the doors opened, Katherine and Jojo walked down the aisle, arms linked together at a steady pace. There was no question about how stunning Katherine was in her stormy blue dress. She was carrying a bouquet of pink and white flowers that complemented her dress. Of course Jojo looked dashing in his suit. Both of them were all smiles as they continued to walk. Soon after, Kid Blink and Brooklyn followed, also with arms linked together. Again, Brooklyn looked beautiful in her dress, only hers was a slightly different shade and style than Katherine's, but her bouquet was the same. Kid Blink looked dashing as well, who had a knowing look in his eyes that told Mush, "wait until you see her". All the while Jack and Albert couldn't take their eyes off of their girlfriends. There were a few chuckles and lighthearted jabs from the boys, who were quickly silenced with a glare.
The music took a shift, indicating for everyone sitting to stand. However, Mush couldn't exactly make out what tune was being played, because when the doors reopened, there she stood with Kloppman beside her. It was a no-brainer that he was going to be the one to give her away. But it was also sort of beside the point. Mush didn't know what came over him, but he began to feel the world move around him. Which was quickly followed by a steady pair of arms from behind, and someone grabbing a hold of his hands. The arms pushed. The hands pulled. A bit of laughter was heard, but all he saw was the look on her face that said, "you're an idiot. But you're my idiot."
She was carrying a bouquet of red roses and daisies. Her dress was a plain white that flowed down, stopping just an inch or two away from the ground. Her sleeves were spaghetti straps. The top part was a straight line that went across her chest, but the sides were some sort of lace up. Just simple Xs that tied together the two pieces. Her hair was half up, with two small dutch braids on the side that most likely connected in the back while the rest of her hair flowed down in soft curls. Her veil was pinned to the back of her hair, the edges having some sort of lace detail. There was no doubt how gorgeous she looked. Well Feister has always been gorgeous. But just like prom, her eyes looked wider, and her makeup looked natural as well, but those nude pink lips had a slight shine.
He felt Kid Blink nudge him when Feister was just a few steps away from reaching the end. Nervously, Mush walked towards her, not taking his gaze away from hers for a second. Once they met she shyly smiled. The same way she had done when they had first met all those years ago. Forget lovestruck seventeen year old. Mush felt like a flipping seven year old all over again! It was like meeting her for the first time all over again.
"Whatsmatter? Cat got your tongue?" Feister teased.
Mush let out a soft chuckle. "Yeah. you've officially taken my breath away."
"Good. cause you're never gonna see me lookin' like this ever again."
This made both of them smile.
With the nervous tension eased Kloppman kissed her on the forehead, then brought their hands together. He patted Mush on the shoulder and said, "I already know you've taken good care of her, Mush. And Feister I know you've looked out for him as well. That's why I'm telling both of you to continue to look out for the other. You two got something special, don't ever forget that."
"We won't," Mush promised.
"Thank you," Feister said. "We wouldn't be here if it weren't for you."
Kloppman smiled once more before giving their connected hands a reassuring squeeze before taking his seat.
Mush brought her hand up to his lips, placing a delicate kiss against her knuckles before giving it a loving squeeze as he led her to the front of the aisle. In those few moments, Feister caught the gazes of some of the boys, who all had similar faces. Proud. Loving. All the way to, "I told you this would happen." these boys raised her. They're her family. And no matter what would happen in the years to come, Feister knew she could count on them. How funny it is to think she didn't trust anyone when she first met them. Didn't want to become attached. Now look, she wouldn't know what to do with herself if even one of them weren't around.

Author's note
Well ladies and Gents, the moment you've all been waiting for has finally arrived. Meister's wedding! Woo! This year come October will mark six years since Mush and Feister came into my life, as of now, it's five for all you lovely readers. While their first kiss will always be an iconic moment, I think this is what we've all really wanted, for them to tie the knot. Or seeing it at least. While it would've been since to see the actual wedding thing, Feister complained that she's been too soft lately. Yeah I know it's weird the characters talk to me but she's wanted heartbreaking angst. This was our compromise. Hope you enjoyed, thanks for reading and I'll see you next time.
