Chapter 3: REGRET

What? She has.... No mother?

Her words ring in his mind. The way she yelled, her eyes glistening with tears... He never saw it. Never saw her cry. And the most shocking truth being unveiled to him, he's left frozen on his spot. No, he never knew it. He never knew Soojin's most hurtful truth.

He watched her shake and sob as she rushes into the restroom. He follows his instincts, running after her, "Soojin! Stop! Hey-"

"Please!! Leave me alone for sometime!!" she yells, Her voice filled with pain and guilt.

Jungkook himself is feeling like crying too. He never meant to bully her in a way to make her cry. It seemed fun to him, he loved annoying her. But today, when he is seeing her cry, he feels a tinge of guilt too. Have I gone too far...? What have you done Jungkook! He curses at himself as he feels guilty for making her cry.

The whole night, he doesn't approach her. Even at dinner time, he didn't even glance at her. Soojin felt confused at his strange behavior at first but then, felt relieved that at least she would get some time to recover. Jungkook just sits on the corner of his brother's bed, thinking of the whole event. Her mom... She died.. She has no mom... And I...

"Kookie... Are you okay?"

Jungkook jolts up, hearing his brother's voice. Junghyun knows his little brother very well. Just by reading his expression, he knew something was wrong. They have always shared a truly close bond. They think of each other like best friends, rather than brothers.

"Hyung... Soojin..."

"What about Soojin?" Junghyun asks. He's the only one to know that Jungkook bullies her. He tried a lot to stop him from doing so but he never listens.

"Soojin. .. She... She has no mom...?" he asks, his eyes widening at the shocking truth as he stares at his brother for an answer.

Junghyun stares at his little one for some time and chuckles to see the strange concern and shock in his doe eyes. Such a change in my Kookie? "Hmm... She doesn't have... You found it out recently, haven't you?"

Jungkook just looks down and sulks.

"I told you, didn't I? Don't tease her. Don't bully her. This is the reason. Can you imagine how tough it is for her?" the older one tries explaining to his little one again.

"But I... I didn't know it... I thought she just... She just came with her uncle... And her parents... They live somewhere else... I never knew, hyung..," Jungkook's voice breaks as he feels guilty of it. The sight of her rushing to the restroom with her eyes glistening just flashes before his eyes. His own eyes wells up with tears now.

"Kookie... Look at me." Junghyun cups his face and makes his look at him. "It's okay... You didn't do it purposely... You didn't know her harsh truth... Hmm."

"But...I made her cry, hyung! She just... She ran away from me... Crying... I didn't want to make her cry!" he breaks down as tears stream down his face.

"Hey! Don't cry my strong boy! C'mon! It's okay, yeah? Now it's time to change!" Junghyun encourages him and pats his back.

Jungkook nods and says, "I'll do it. I'll! I'll never bully her.... Never let anyone make her cry! I'll protect her!" he rubs his tears with the back of his hand.

On the other side, Soojin lays on the bed motionlessly. It was a bad day, damn bad day. And the worst fact is that she can't share about this to anyone to feel lighter. She hugs the pillow tighter as she sobs. Her face all red and puffy from all that crying of hours, "Mom... Mom why did you leave me? Please.... I'm suffering mom!" her voice breaks as she sobs louder remembering those hurtful words, "Why...? Why only with me? Why do I always get such things?!" she soon falls asleep after being tired due to all that crying.

The sky dawns up soon and Soojin, barely having any sleep, gets up to get going for school. Pasting a fake smile, as always beautiful, she goes towards the kitchen to have her breakfast.

"Suju? Why are your eyes red? You okay?" Mr. Jeon asks her as he notices her red swollen eyes and gets worried. Jungkook visibly gulps at that question. I'm gone today. She'll tell dad that I made her cry. He closes his eyes shut, ready to bear the consequences.

"I... My eyes were itching so... Maybe for that... "

Jungkook opens his eyes in shock as she stares at her. She didn't tell? His doe eyes never leaving her while she pays no attention to him.

"Oh... Why didn't you tell us Suju?' Mrs. Jeon furrows her eyebrows as she asks her that question. She seems equally worried as well. "We could've given you some ointment!"

"I didn't think it's a big deal, Aajuma. It's okay!" she gives out a bright smile, assuring the couple.

Then, she makes her way to her school, along with the Jeon brothers. It was just in front of Mr. and Mrs. Jeon that Soojin was behaving warmly with Jungkook. Just after, they reached the bus, she immediately snatched her hand away from his and maintained a distance. Jungkook sighs, knowing he has messed up but he's determined to find a way to get to her.

Soojin, all along the day, felt strange. It was strange that her most hated enemy, Jungkook, didn't approach her, not even once the whole day. Did it affect him that bad? She shrugged, not caring a bit about him and felt relieved.

The bell rings and the class ends. All the students rush out from the class as it is break time while only Soojin stays inside, revising her lessons.

"Hey nerd!" a group of girls stop by her desk and throw their notebooks at them. "You don't have any work anyways. Better do our homeworks."

Soojin clenches her jaw and looks up at them.

"What's up with that gaze, huh? Don't dare to lift your eyes at us!"

"What if I don't do your homework?" Soojin looks at them with her cold gaze and lifts up her voice. She needs to do it! Who'll save her or else?

"And why will you not do that?" the bullies look at each other and smirk.

"I don't want to. My choice!"

Their is a weird silence in the room after that sentence. The bullies look at each other in shock, knowing about the growing temper of their leader. Their gaze pitiful on Soojin, telling her by their eyes, You chose the wrong person, girl.

"Such courage, huh?" the leader grits her teeth as she grips Soojin's hair tightly and pulls it harshly, "You bitch! Dare to speak like that again!!"

"Ahhhh!!" Soojin hisses in pain by the impact. It's so harsh that tears begin welling up in her eyes. She grips the bully's hand, trying to free herself, "Leave me... Leave me please... Ahhh-" when she heard a loud yell from the door.

"DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH HER!!"
