Chapter 49
Kaia's P.O.V
I drove Ally to school this morning on her request. As I drove by my old high school, memories flooded back to my last year here. Marissa and I were inseparable, up until we parted for college. As Ally got out of the car, I waved at my old English teacher who was making her way inside. She still looked the same, only difference was the huge stomach. She was glowing, by the way.
After drop off, I drove over to Marissa's house. I don't know if she would be awake right now but I just wanna see her.
I pull up outside the big iron gates, got out of the car and walked straight to her front door. Her house still looked the same. I remember all the sleepovers and camping trips we had together. I missed Marissa so much.
I knocked on her door and waited for someone to answer. Few seconds later, her mom opens the door and a wide smile played across her face when she saw me.
"Good gracious, dear! Come here!" She said, pulling me in for a hug.
"You look well Mrs.Samuels" I said as she hugged me tight.
"You look so beautiful, Kaia" she said, smiling at me.
"Is Marissa here?" I asked.
"Yeah, she's in her room" Mrs.Samuels says as she shuts the door.
"Head on up dear".
I walk slowly up their long staircase. I remember every part of this house as we spent a lot of time running up and down these stairs.
I knock on Marissa's door and wait for her to unlock it. She takes a while to open it. I knock again and the door suddenly opens.
Marissa stood there, her hair was a mess, she had smudged makeup and she was dressed in only a huge t-shirt.
"Um. ..hi" I said, taking in her appearance.
"Hello" she said, before staggering back to her huge bed.
I don't say anything, I just walk in and look around her room. It looked the same, except for the huge amount of party clothes on the floor. Looks like she's been going out a lot lately.
"What are you doing here?" Marissa asked, and I was abit surprised at her tone. Did I upset her somehow?
"I just came by to see you. You didn't tell me you were here, I've been wanting to hang out" I said with a smile.
"Well I've been busy, okay?" She snapped.
"I'm sorry Marissa but did I upset you?" I asked her, tired of her being mean to me.
"No, just get out, okay?" She snapped, pointing at the door.
Wow. We have never fought this bad before for her to chase me out of her room. I could almost burst out in tears.
"What did I do?" I asked desperately.
She stood up angrily from her bed and stood only a few feet away from me.
"It's what you didn't do, Kaia!" She spat.
I looked at her with tears welling up in my eyes.
"What are you talking about?" I asked her, on the verge of crying.
"I don't know why I'm even your friend, Kaia. You always have to steal the spotlight. Even when there's none, you make it all about you. The Kaia Show!" Marissa said, opening the door to let me out.
I stand there and look at her. I don't recognize who this person is.
"Marissa, I'm sorry for whatever I've done to hurt you" I said, trying to hold back the tears.
"Yeah, right!" Marissa scoffed.
"You stole the spotlight at the photoshoot, making James want to publish only your shots. Then you have both Ash and his brother wrapped around your finger. He doesn't even hang out with Brody anymore because of you! You ruin everything!" She said, shoving me outside.
I stumbled backwards and tried not to fall over. I regained my step and looked Marissa in the eyes. The look she had was hateful, like we were never best friends. I can't believe this is happening.
"I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry" I said, trying to apologize to her.
"Save it, Kaia. We're not longer friends so don't come here again!" She spat, slamming her door on me.
I run downstairs and out of their house as fast as I can. Her mom tries to stop me on my way out but I just keep running, all the way to the car, tears streaming down my face.
I drove off as fast as I could, crying my heart out. I thought about Marissa and how I had hurt her. I had no idea I was doing all the things she accused me of. I didn't mean to. I think this is the end of our friendship.
I tried to calm down but the tears kept pouring as I thought of how she shoved me out of her room. She's like a completely different person now. It's like I don't even know her.
I managed to reach home despite my breakdown. I got out of the car and went straight to my room. Mom follows me up the stairs, I guess she heard me crying.
I dived on my bed and cried into my pillow. I had lost my friend, my best friend.
"What's the matter?" Mom asks, taking a seat at the edge of my bed.
I couldn't answer. I was sobbing uncontrollably.
"Kaia?" Mom called again. She was stroking my hair.
I stopped crying and started to wipe my tears. I made a big mess on my pillow, it was now soaked from my tears.
"It's. ..Marissa. She's not my.. friend anymore" I said in between sobs.
After I told mom everything, she hugged me and stopped me from crying. She told me that I wasn't in the wrong, Marissa was just jealous. I didn't want to believe that because Marissa never showed any signs of jealousy before.
"I have to run to the Pharmacy for refills, will you be alright?" Mom asked me slowly.
"Yeah" I nodded, trying to get a grip on myself.
After a while I pulled out my phone and called Dani, I just needed a friend to talk to. I hadn't noticed that the days were going by so fast, today was Wednesday and I had to leave this Sunday.
Dani told me about campus and how empty it is at the moment. I knew she had something to say about Ash because she almost said his name. But she quickly changed the topic.
We made plans to go out on Saturday night when she comes down, she said she will force Todd to accompany her down and stay.
I hope he comes along, I miss him too.
We ended the call on a good note, both excited to see each other this weekend. I also can't wait to introduce Dani and Todd to mom and Ally, they'll get along just fine.
I decided to take a shower. I was hurting, now that Marissa and I weren't friends. I was in so much pain. I walked over to grab my towel and all of a sudden my phone began to ring again.
I was confused when I saw that a private number was contacting me. I answered the call but placed it to my ear and waited for whoever it was, to talk.
"Hello, Kaia?" The person said.
"Yes, and who is this?" I replied.
There was a pause for a few seconds before he responded again.
"It's me, silly! It's Axel" He said in between laughs.
I felt myself beginning to smile, Axel hadn't called me since we parted ways last week. It was nice to hear his voice again.
"Well, hi there!" I said to him.
"What are you up to? And when are you coming back?I kind of miss you" Axel said and I wanted to laugh.
"Well if you must know, I'm off to take a shower and I'll be back this Sunday" I said.
He paused for a while before speaking again.
"So, this is the part where you say 'Oh yeah, Axel I kind of miss you too, especially your good looks and charm. ..you're so hot'!" Axel says in a high-pitched girly voice and I just burst out laughing. This guy was so comical.
"That's right, laugh at me" He said, which made me laugh even more.
"If you're wondering where I am right now, I slept over in Ash's room" He said.
"Oh, I don't need to know that, really!" I said, not wanting to know about Ash.
"Alrighty then love, I gotta take off back home. See you when you get here, okay?" Axel said.
"Okay. Have a good day Axel" I said with a smile.
When I looked in the mirror, my face was red. Didn't know I could laugh that hard.
Axel's always making me laugh and I guess that's kind of one reason why I like him.
I got into the shower with a huge smile on my face. Guess he took all the pain away.
