Chapter Five : The Power of Love
Crown Prince Miguel Hamilton of Herraden secretly married to Princess Amalia of Wales
Ten years ago today, Princess Amalia decamped to penthouse in Miami with her childhood friend Prince Miguel Hamilton, and like so many in love young people, decided to get hitched.
The Royal Couple tie the knot in a top-secret ceremony at Miguel's penthouse apartment in Miami on April 2, 2008.
While the couple kept the wedding under wraps, without releasing photos or video, but now wedding footage makes its way into TMZ.
Just when you thought you'd seen it all from Amalia, the princess, 30, has gotten married — at a penthouse, wearing a beautiful ball gown wedding dress, to a childhood friend, sources close to the princess say. Ed Westsick walked her down the aisle.
None of her family were present. I wonder how they feel about that?
But we can't over her wedding dress.
Princess Amalia truly is stunning in gold and cream strapless dress, complete with corset top and princess-style tulle skirt.
The bride wore a strapless gold and cream Georges Chakra Couture gown as Florence + the Machine's "You've Got the Love" played. Their friends — including Jenny Humphrey and Erik van der Woodsen watched with pride as the royal couple sealed the deal.
Amalia teamed the dress by wearing her blonde hair swept into a chic up do, and topped off the outfit with a pair of long silver earrings.
The stunning blonde royal finished off her ensemble with a trailing bouquet of white bluebells and lilies.
Here's a video released by the princess from her wedding day.
Their 2008 wedding was also top-secret, super-intimate affair.
"It was a very emotional wedding — lots of crying — and really very spiritual," a source told PEOPLE at the time of the soirée, held at the Miguel's 13,500-sq.-ft. Miami penthouse and decorated with 70,000 dendrobium orchids flown in from Thailand.
Not only did Amalia bag herself a gorgeous husband when Prince Miguel, popped the question in 2008; she got an equally gorgeous engagement ring! Miguel presented his bride-to-be with a dazzling 12-carat oval-cut diamond set in rose gold. Princess Amalia's engagement ring also features pavé diamonds along the thin rose gold band, giving her engagement ring some extra sparkle. She is one of the first (and very few) Hollywood stars and Royal Princess to wear a rose-gold band, but we expected no less from such a fashion-forward lady.
The ring was designed by world-renowned jewellery designer, Lorraine Schwartz, who also happens to be a close friend of Amalia's. A spokesperson for Lorraine Schwartz confirmed that Miguel worked closely with Lorraine to design the perfect engagement ring for Amalia, as it needed to look good on her petite fingers. The pair finally settled on a dusty pink oval diamond that boasts some serious clarity. So how much did it set Miguel back to give the beautiful Princess Amalia the engagement ring of her dreams? It's estimated a cool $2 million! Talk about pulling out all the stops! At that price tag it's no wonder Amalia is wearing the biggest oval-cut engagement ring.
Princess Amalia has opened up about their nuptials and their relationship leading up to the big day.
"There was no rush — no one expected me to run off and get married," she told Vogue. "I really believe that you will love the same thing when you're 20 as you do at 30. I feel like you have to get to know yourself, know what you want, spend some time by yourself, and be proud of who you are before you can share that with someone else."
"...What Miguel and I have is real. It's not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It's real."
—Amalia

"How could you not tell your family that you're married?" Charles asked.
An emergency meeting with the family had been called so they could figure out what to do about the news about my marriage.
"Well you would have to actually act like a family for me to tell." I replied.
"Here we go again." Harry said.
"What? You people have barely been a family to me and expect me to just be fine with that well then you have another thing coming." I said.
"Amalia, please calm down." Miguel said.
"Amalia, our public image drastically decreased, I don't know what people are saying, I have just been told that if we don't act soon...it may be too late or the end of the monarchy." The Queen said.
I nodded to show I was following, but Miguel didn't answer. He looked scared, almost as if my grandmother was about to drop a bomb on him.
"Basically, what the family needs is something to boost our image, to improve how people see us. And, due to past experience, our perception is usually extraordinarily high after major royal events. Like, for example, William and Catherine's wedding, Harry and Meghan's upcoming wedding, the Diamond Jubilee, and the great grandchildren's births." She said.
I didn't nod this time: she'd lost me. Miguel, however, looked like he knew exactly what was coming.
"I am not asking you to do this, I am ordering you to do this, and If I had my way, you could do it in your own time, but the world in which we live is not allowing that. You need to have a baby." She said.
I stared at her. A baby. I wasn't ready for that. I glanced at Miguel, who was slowly shaking his head, disgusted.
"I repeat," Elizabeth said, looking away from us. "I am not asking you. I am telling you. You have no say. You're having a baby. Hopefully, by Harry's wedding, you should be pregnant." She said.
I stared at Elizabeth, unsure as of what I should say, unable to do anything but look at her. There was silence, William, Harry, Kate and Meghan watching our reactions.
"No," Miguel whispered, breaking the emptiness. I looked at him, finally tearing my eyes away from my grandmother to see the fury in his glare, the rage in his scowl. "You can't do this." He said.
It seemed as though everyone was holding their breath, preparing themselves for his patience that was about to end, as we turned back to Elizabeth, and she met Miguel's frown evenly. "Remember, Miguel; I am not asking you. I am telling you."
"No," he said, louder now, shaking his head as he refused to accept it.
"Granny, you can't seriously expect me to be okay with this?" I said.
"Amalia, this isn't a request, it's an order, You are the most popular member of the firm." Elizabeth said.
"You can't do this!" Amalia said, mu voice rising as I got to my feet, my height making me intimidating as I loomed tall above my grandmother. "Granny, you can't!"
"I'm sorry, Amalia, but I can."
"No," Miguel whispered, his tone – that had been loud and bold with anger. "You can't. I won't let you."
"Nobody could foresee this kind of thing happening," Charles interrupted gently.
"It shouldn't matter!" I shouted, his rage finally taking over. "It's my body. I should decide when the time is right and you're telling me that I have to do it now?" I said.
"Amalia, you don't understand how hard it is for me to tell you all this," Elizabeth started, but I cut her off with a scoff.
"If it was that hard you wouldnt have asked." I snapped.
"Amalia, that's enough," Charles snapped. "You do not speak to you grandmother like that. This isn't a choice. You can not refuse it. You will do as we say: the future of the family depends on it." He said.
"Well maybe if the family hadn't fucked up so much-"
"Amalia!" Charles growled.
"We wouldn't be in this mess!" I finished in a yell.
"It's the way it is, and there's nothing anyone can do about it " Elizabeth said.
"Aren't you the queen?" I said loudly, drowning her out.
"Amalia!" Charles cried furiously.
"Miguel and I shouldn't be the ones to get you out of this fucking mess!" I finished.
"Amalia, either you stop giving us attitude or you're going to make it a lot worse for yourself!"
"I'm giving you attitude?! Don't make me laugh!"
"Amalia," Philip snapped.
"How about this I'm no longer a member of this fucked up family. Let's go, Miguel." I said.
"Think about what you're doing?" William asked.
"I know what I'm doing. This family needs me more than I need this family. As of today, I am, Her Royal highness, Crown Princess Amalia of Herraden." I replied.
"Amalia, no!" Harry exclaimed.
"Goodbye." I said.
