8: Arranged Marriage
----
"We are getting you arranged in a marriage!"
The sentence kept on repeating on loop in my mind as I buried my head in my knees, unsure what would happen if mother, who was arguing with my father about this recent uproar of me getting married, announced her final decision.
She didn't bother to ask my approval on this marriage. How casually she said yes to that lady who came to ask my hand in marriage? What an easy way to get riddance from her own daughter, right?
What's the point of getting rid of me when father and her never accepted me from the very first day and never treated me as daughter but a servant?
"She WILL NOT marry that unknown guy! Hongbin was and is the best man for her," father said. "I want the marriage to be done between the families."
"Look honey, I can't disappoint my friend as she has already asked for Eunhae to be her daughter in law," mother said.
"I don't care Mira! Eunhae is going to get married with Kim Hongbin and no other person. This is my last word!"
As soon as I heard this, I clasped my hand on my mouth. I don't want to spend my life with a psychopath. He would never treat me as a wife but a toy to play with.
"Try to understand, just meet them once. I'm sure that you will like their son. For me?" mother tried to convince him.
"Fine! What is his name?" father asked. "Taemin, Hyun Taemin."
"EUNHAE! COME HERE!" Father shouted and I immediately wiped my tears with the back of my palm and went out of the room.
"Yes master?"
"I'm sure you are aware that you would be getting married in a few days and we would finally get good riddance from you. So, according to me, you must be married to a gentleman like Hongbin who will take good care of you and treat you like a princess , but your your mother wants you to get married to that Taemin stranger. Now tell me. Whom do you want to get married?" he gave his speech.
"I would rather prefer to continue my studies, master," I said and mother rolled her eyes.
"What do you think you would get from studying? Your study won't make you billionaire or something. Do you expect that someone would hire you for a job? You can't be nothing more than a poor maid," mother spat with pure hatred.
"At least I have hope that whatever my fate has for me is more bright and successful than your illiterate minds!"
I knew it was hard to speak up for myself, but father was outraged at my sudden outburst, more like disrespect in his point of view and landed a harsh slap on my face, making me lose my balance and fall in the steps of my mother.
"HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT YOUR MOTHER? HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN YOUR LIMITS, YOU FOOLISH GIRL?"
I cupped my cheek and stood up, looking directly in the burning eyes of my father. "I can not bear a single minute with that freak Hongbin. How can you expect me to marry my rapist!?"
I was testing father's patience for sure, but I had to for the sake of my upcoming future. I couldn't let my life be more destroyed by the hands of my parents.
"Look you little rascal, you have to marry one of them and there is nobody who can save you from it," mother grabbed me by my reddened, stinging cheek making me yelp in pain.
"I'm just a nineteen year old. I don't want to get married for God's sake!" I screamed and she pinched my cheek harder causing tears to brim in my eyes.
"All we want is riddance from you. Raising a pathetic child for twenty years is nothing more than a burden. Be at least thankful that you are alive by now or otherwise we would have wasted you away!" Mother said and the tears finally escaped my eyes and the heart shattered into thousands of pieces.
"Alright, I would marry," I reluctantly spoke. "But only in one condition."
"What condition?" Father folded his arms in annoyance. "I will still continue studying before and after the marriage," I said, hoping they would agree and listen to me once.
"If we allow you...then will you agree to the marriage?" father asked. "Oh yes, I will master, but please let me study, I have dreams and goals like every other hopeful person out there," I begged with my hands clasped in front of him.
"You are allowed to study before marriage, but after it, it's on your husband if he allows you to study or not, not our headache," mother said and I forced a smile and shook my head as a yes.
"But! With whom are you agreeing on getting married with?"
"Please invite Hyun Taemin and his family over. I'd like to meet this person and then....you can arrange the marriage," I said and mother pulled me in tight satisfactory hug. However, the hug contained no emotion or love.
"Then what about Hongbin? Listen to me dear, he is a perfect man for you," father tried to convince me, but I had now made my desicion.
"Let her decide, afterall it's her marriage. If she doesn't want to be with that Hongbin, then let her be. Don't force my sweetie," mother said in her venomous voice and put her arm around me.
I hesitantly forced myself out from her grip and stood away at some distance. "Please excuse me, I have to go to the campus for submitting some assignments," I said and both of them hummed in unison.
Opening the door of the quarter, I hurriedly collected my things, wore a comfy sweater as the weather was changing day by day, and took my daily route for the campus.
Fortunately, the roads were quiet and peaceful. The storefronts were devoid of displays, which was just as well, because not a single person was there to admire them. A few cars stood empty along the sides and whispering wind flew past them. The traffic light swung in the breeze, telling the nonexistent drivers and riders to stop.
I let the soothing quietness devour my soul, making me forget about every injustice and mistreating that happened with me. A new feeling aroused in me, a feeling of independence. Temporary independence.
I walked through the big opened gates of the campus and marched towards the Submission Counter. I could barely see any student, as the hallways and corridors were almost empty.
"Eunhae!"
I haulted in my tracks when I heard his deep voice. Leave me for once Jeon Jungkook. "W..what do you w..want?" I stammered, refusing to look at him, but he grabbed my arm and yanked me, so he could look at me. I fixed my gaze at the floor, not wanting to look at him.
He put his icy finger underneath my chin and pushed it up, making me to stare at his dominant orbs.
"Where are my assignments?" Jungkook asked raising his eyebrow. I gulped and rummaged my hand inside my backpack to find his assignment. After a minute, which felt like hours, I took out the papers and handed to him.
"Are the answers correct?" he asked while flipping the pages. "Yes they are." "By the way, why does it seem like you are hiding something from me?" Jungkook questioned and I immediately looked at him.
"Why...why would I hide something?" I tried my best not to show any nervousness on my face. "You better not because if I find out that you are, it will not be good."
"Why does it concern you anyways?" I asked straightforwardly. " And THAT shouldn't be concerning you!" he shouted making me flinch at the spot.
"Miss Kim and Mister Jeon! What are you both doing her at this time?" the senior teacher asked, who seemed to appear out of nowhere.
"Mind your business," Jungkook replied coldy and the teacher noticed the assignment papers in our hands. "Submitting the assignments, I see-" "I SAID GET LOST! YOUR EXISTANCE IS BOTHERING ME THAT I WISH TO KILL YOU AT THIS MOMENT!" Jungkook shouted in anger and my heart began to beat fast form fear.
I noticed his neck veins popping out while he clenched his knuckles, crumbling the papers in this grip. Taking advantage of the deathly situation, I tried to to escape from there, but Jungkook was fast enough to hold me back and slammed me to the nearest pillar, trapping my fragile body with his sinful one.
"You like it when I get angry huh?" he asked. "No...no I don't," I said as I tried to push him away. He took out his gun and panic rose inside me. He trailed his gun along my jaw causing my breath to quicken and he planted it straight in the middle of my throat and I gasped sharply.
"It's one of my wishes to kill you from my own hands," he said and applied more pressure on the area. "But I have done n...nothing to you," I coughed.
"You have my sweetheart, you have and the day is not far when you come to know about the truth. Remember that you only belong to me. MY POSESSION!" he screamed and ran away.
I closed my eyes for a moment and then opened them back. I was beyond scared and hallucations of him kept on appearing in front of me. At that moment, I wished to disappear form this cruel world.
I regained my posture and submitted my papers before dashing out of the campus, not wanting to stay a single minute in there when Jungkook was around.
Sometimes there is a thing, I always wonder about; Look at the world we live in. A cruel, sadistic world. Look at the daily suffering and all the injustice that happens. Look at how flawed we all are. Everyday people are dying and suffering because of what their fellow human beings do to them.

As soon as I reached home, mother called me in her room. I knocked the door and she asked me to come in.
"Taemin and his family will be coming tomorrow, so dress up properly. Your marriage date will also be fixed. So, I advise you to take off from your campus."
"I will take an off," I said. "Who will be invited to the marriage?"
"It will be a marriage on paper."
