Entry Five
Okay, so, I told my parents about my new friend and they. Were. Ecstatic.
I actually got to have her over to my house! We watched Netflix and ate Doritoes. The entire night, we just talked about things we liked. I just would not shut up about baking! It was like a switch just flipped! I remember us eating breakfast.
I had my jam in my favorite jar and we were eating toast. I quickly pushed my jar over to her.
"Hey, what's that? Your apple jam?"
"YES!! C'mon just try a bit! It's SOOOOOO GOOD!!! I put my heart and soul into this jam!"
Starburst just giggled a bit and spread some on her toast. "Hmm..."
"Take a biiiite." I whined.
Starburst giggled again then took a bite. "Hmmmmmm...."
"Well?"
"It's.... not good..."
I anticipated. This was the oldest joke in the book, I don't like it, I love it. It's not good, it's great. I live with Mother. I know these cheesy things.
She was silent and continued eating her cinnamon toast.
I leaned in. "...And?"
"And what?"
"It's not goood..." I prompted.
"Yeah. That's all. It's not good." She smiled teasingly at me.
I playfully punched her and she punched back. "I'm joking, it's the best jam I've ever tasted!" She confessed finally.
That was the moment I knew we'd be good friends.
When we were walking around my neighborhood, I revealed that I wanted to be in the Home Ec Club, but was still a bit too timid to join up.
"Dude, you've gotta join!"
"I don't *gotta* do nothing."
"Oh, come on, Zap, you're a wonderful cook! Just last night, you showed me your apple pie recipe and my God did my mouth water! And I was just looking at words!!"
I sighed and nodded. "I know. I love baking, but I don't really love crowds... unless I'm making them happy just by being myself."
"But you will be doing just that!" Starburst argued.
"No I won't! Did you see Crescent? He's only a fraction of the whole school and he made me feel so bad...."
"Oh, he's a fraction, alright." She mumbled.
I raised an eyebrow at her comment. She smirked at me.
