Chapter 59 - Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Specter
Chapter 59 – Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Specter
When I open my eyes, my environment looks different from anything I have been in before. It looks like I'm inside a minka house and paired with the fact that the woman in front of me, reading from a scroll is dressed in a kimono, I assume I'm in feudal Japan.
The scene before me is a little odd to say the least.
There's the woman, but there's also soldiers, and I assume there are two opposite sides, because some of them are subduing others.
"What is your allegiance? Are you with them? Did I summon the wrong thing?" she asks me, her eyes narrowing.
"I'm not with anyone," I reply because it's the truth. I have no idea what this woman did, or who is coming for her, but I'm definitely not one of them.
"I must have done it wrong. I must have called you instead."
"What are you doing?"
"I'm summoning a reckoning," she tells me.
She's repeating the same gibberish over and over again like a mantra.
"If you're the one who brought me here, maybe it's so I can stop you from bringing whatever it is you're trying to summon."
I see rage in her eyes, the kind of rage that would gladly see the world burn to the ground.
Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut.
"My father is dead," she tells me through gritted teeth. "They killed him. He taunted me," she continued, pointing to the soldier kneeling to the ground, a sword pointed at him to keep him in place. He sneers at her. "Telling me in gruesome details how my father met his end. He knew who I was. He wanted to make me suffer. He wanted to see what I would do. This is what I do. I will not let this go unpunished."
She says this and then she starts her chants up again.
This time, I assume it works because the ground trembles and the roof of the house is literally torn off.
It's impressive, that I can keep getting surprised after everything that's happened to me so far.
But it happens again.
"Holy shit!" I can't help exclaiming.
I back away from the giant motherfucking skeleton, but there's not a lot of place for me to go hide, in the small space of this home and no exit in sight. There are either soldiers in one corner or a skeleton of death in another.
Also, everyone is panicking, and kind of bumping into each other.
Humans are never orderly when they're in a panic.
The woman who summoned this thing, looks like she knows exactly what she did. She knows no one is going to win tonight.
But she doesn't care.
Is this who I could be? Is this who I was gearing up to become?
We lock eyes in the middle of the chaos, like kindred spirit.
It's a mistake though. Because I don't notice my surrounding, and I get trampled by the fleeting soldiers.
