Chapter 1

I walk slowly down the sidewalk beside the noisy morning traffic. My cat-like ear twitches as I hear a box drop on the ground to my left. My eyes glance in the direction of the sound to see a man bending down with two orange orbs in his hand and reaching for more of the orbs scattered around the concrete. I continue to walk in the same direction as I was going; then I notice a flashing screen to see a woman holding some sort of object. I stood there, for what felt like hours, in a sort of mesmerized trance. I was suddenly snapped out of the trance when someone bumped me in the shoulder hard, causing me to stumble back. I look around in confusion and see two men in front of me, seeming mad over something.

"What do you think you're doing on our turf?" the brownish black haired one questioned me.

'Great, these nuts' she thought and rolled her eyes. I shift my weight onto my right leg and sigh."Well, I was walking, got distracted and ended up standing here," I simply replied with annoyance. 'Why do these people have to bother me, I'm just standing here...why can't they bother someone else?' I thought not paying attention to the blonde headed one moving to my right, and the brownish blackish haired one walking to my left. They were closing my exits off. I have to think fast because I can't afford another injury or another fight, I'm not going back to that horrid place. I shiver slightly at the thought,

"What's wrong? Is the mousy cold?" The brownish blackish haired one said with a smirk.

"Or is the mousy scared of the cats pouncing?" The blonde haired one asked mockingly. These two are starting to get on my nerves. I look towards the exit the brownish blackish haired man is now blocking. I sigh, 'Great that eliminates that exit. ' I watch him closely as he shifts his weight from one leg to the other. I notice as he is standing he is putting most of his weight on his left leg- probably hurt the other in a fight or it's sore. 'Or maybe it isn't an impossible route if I fake him out on the bad leg,' I watch the two as they exchange glances, and I don't like it.

"What do you clowns want?" I ask watching the brownish blackish haired one as he tenses and glances at the blonde headed one which hasn't stopped staring at me, and it's starting to creep me out.

"Well, there are many things we want," the blonde headed one says while walking towards me looking me up and down. I tilt my head to the side, confused on what he's hinting. He continues to walk towards me till he's right in front of me. His breath hits my face and I cringe. 'Oh my gosh, this man has breath like a dog.' I cough and back away. Lucky me, my back hits the wall behind me.

"What's wrong, can't handle the sight of me?" he smirks at his own stupid comment. He places his hand right beside my head. 'He's getting into my personal space I need to do something.'

I growl, "There is a thing called personal space, and your invading mine doggy." 'I'm starting to think this thing isn't a human.'

"What did you just call me?"His smirk falls as he says this, his voice becoming more menacing, and he moves his face closer to mine. I don't like how close he is to me so I decide to make some room between me and him. I kick his knee out from under him forcing him to stumble and fall to the ground. The brown headed ran to the blonde's. I take that opportunity to run right passed him and his friend and back to the safety of the sidewalk.

"Hey! get back here!" One of them said as they chase after me as I go to a group of people and merge within them. I crouch down to get out of eyesight. I sigh in relief as they lose track of me and go back between the tall houses. I follow this group of humans I end up following them for a few blocks before splitting of and continuing on my own.

I sigh as I approach the abandoned part of town and I see old and abandoned houses; one in particular catches my eyes. I stop to look at the big sign mounted on the front of the house. 'Happy Stays? What kind of a house says happy stays......It sounds dumb.' I walk across the street to the doorway. 'Looks a bit worn down.'I grab the doorknob, push on the door but the door didn't budge. I push harder and the door gives in but it falls over with me falling on top of it. 'Well that's one reason they abandoned the house.' I stand up and brush my cloak off and walk in the now empty doorway into a huge empty room. I walk around the room and find a staircase to the next floor up. I walk in the door frame and start to put my weight on the first step; it creaked. I listened as it echoed through the house. 'I've always wondered how it does that.' I start working my way to the top of the stairs.

Each step creaked as I put my weight on it. 'This is easy-' The step gave way to my weight, sending my foot and leg into the hole in the step. I yelp in response to the wood digging into my flesh. I carefully pull my leg out of the hole in the step. I get up the rest of the way, with my now bleeding leg. I limp into a doorway of the first of many doors in the hallway. I get lucky and find an old mattress laying in the middle of the floor. 'Just my luck.' I sit down on the mattress and take my cloak off, and I start to tear a strip of the cloth of the bottom of it. I sigh. 'I avoided dog breath and limpy and still managed to get an injury.' I start to wrap the strip of cloth around my bleeding leg. I tie a knot in the strips of cloth to keep it from falling off. I lay back on the mattress. 'Man this is better than a concrete floor. 'I stare up at the ceil blankly. 'This day has been boring.....Which I like. 'I yawn and stretch my arms out and grab my cloak, and pull it over my body and curl up into a ball. 'Hopefully I can get a good sleep and not be woken up,' I sigh and slowly close my eyes; sleep slowly over take my exhausted body.
