Life of Saylor

Finally, Christmas break was over. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Christmas as much as the next girl, but I couldn't wait to see my band again. It felt like forever. And I guess things were finally starting to be better.

Okay, I bet you're thinking I'm just some crazy girl who's trying to tell you a story. Well, that might be true. Let me just tell you about myself.

My name is Saylor McKayla Davis, and I'm twelve years old. I skipped two grades with my best friend so now we're both freshmen at McKendrick Prepatory High School. That's where my other two beat friends, Caleb Davis, my brother, and Jodi Mappa, my band mate, go.

McKendrick Prep is a boarding school for the elite. If you aren't ready to study hard, then you might as well go home.

Speaking of studying hard, let me introduce you to one of my other band mates, Corki.

Corki is kinda shy, but she's awesome once you get to know her! She's really, really smart, with a GPA of 4.6. She has an amazing voice, just like the rest of XO-IQ.

Then there's Sun Hi, who's a self obsessed blogger. Now she isn't as self obsessed, but she's still got that thing for thinking she's the coolest person ever.

Next there's Jodi, who's like my older sister. At first, the two of us hated each other, but we got over it, and then we became best friends. She loves to design fashion.

Okay, so now you're probably wondering about my brother Caleb. Well, he's a klutzy DJ who's awesome at making music. No kidding. He, Jodi, Sun Hi, Corki, and I make up XO-IQ.

But XO-IQ aren't my only friends. There's one other who's also my bestie, and that's Sapphire. She has an amazing voice, but she's started not wanting to show it. I guess she's scared about what happened last time she was in a group, if you want to know about that, go read the first story!

Anyways, I walked into my dorm, basically scared for my life. I mean, when someone puts you into a coma you start to get suspicious...

I walked in to see Sapphire crying on her bed. "Saph?" I asked, rushing over to her.

Her arm was all bruised up. "What happened?" I asked.

"A-aria," she choked out.

I brushed her arm with my hand. "Does that hurt?" I asked.

She winced. "Uh-huh," she mumbled.

"C'mon," I said. "Let's go see XO-IQ."

We walked down to where Jodi, Corki, and Sun Hi's dorm was. I knocked on the doorframe. "S and S coming in," I said.

They looked up from unpacking. "Hey guys," Jodi said casually. "What's up?"

"Wow," I said. "I thought you'd be more excited to see us."

"Just kidding!" she yelled out. "Come here you two!"

We hugged Jodi. "So seriously, what brings you to XO-IQ?" she asked.

"One word," I replied. "Aria."

Jodi scowled at the name. "Is she seriously still messing with you?" she asked.

"Look what she did to Sapphire," I replied, holding out Saph's arm.

"Whoa," Sun Hi said. "That looks painful."

"It is," Sapphire replied.

We all talked about junk for about an hour, before we had to go back to the dorm.

We walked in and she was standing there. That jerk, ugh, I can't stand her.

Aria stood smiling smugly next to her bed. "What?" I asked.

"Nothing," she replied. "But my friend is coming over later tonight, I hope you don't mind."

"Not at all," I replied. "We're sleeping over at XO-IQ."

"We are?" Sapphire whispered to me.

"Just go with it," I replied.

"Yeah," Sapphire said. "We are, and we're gonna have a great time."

"Okay then," Aria replied.

.....Later that night.....

"Knock, knock," we heard a voice say.

We turned around to see a Philippinain girl standing there. "Hey Ars," she said.

"Hey Stacey," Aria said.

Sapphire and I left the room. We walked down to the XO-IQ room. "Hey girls," Jodi said. "You guys wanna sleep over?"

"Can we?" I asked. "Aria's having some sleepover with her new friend, what was her name again Saph?"

"Stacey, I think," she replied.

Jodi froze. "Stacey?' she asked. "Uh, blackish brownish hair, blue highlights?"

"Yeah," Saph said. "How'd u know?"

"Because," Jodi started. "She's my-"

"Hey little sis," we heard from across the room.

We looked up to see Stacey and Aria standing there.

"Stacey, what are you doing here?" Jodi asked.

"Oh, Aria and I came to get something that Saylor took by accident," she replied.

"What?" I asked.

"My bracelet," Aria replied.

I looked on my wrist. The only thing on it was my charm bracelet, the one my mom had given me before she... never mind.

"Aria, this is mine," I replied, pointing to my charm bracelet. "Remember?"

"Oh well, according to what I told Ms. Diona, that's mine," she said, snatching the bracelet off my wrist. "You wouldn't like detention, would you?"

"Fine Aria! Just fine! Just take it and leave!" I yelled.

Aria smirked as she left the room. My eyes began to year up and I tried to swallow the lump in my throat that had found its way there. "I'll be back," I said quietly, then walked out of the room.

(Jodi's POV)

"What was that all about?" I asked Sapphire.

Sapphire shook her head. "Sayels has been through a lot, so has Caleb, um, I'll go get him," she replied, and then walked out the room.

When she came back, Caleb was trailing behind her. "What's up?" he asked. "Where's Saylor?"

"Um," I replied. "Aria took a charm bracelet from her and she freaked out."

"Aria did what?!?!?!" Caleb asked. "She knows how important that bracelet is! That jerk!"

"What is it about that bracelet?" Sun Hi asked. "I mean, obviously it's important, but why?"

Caleb sighed. "It's a long story, sit down," he said. "Here's how it goes:

"It was two years ago. I was twelve, Saylor was ten, and Saph was ten. Plus, our older sister Kacey was there, and she was sixteen. The whole family and Saph's family had gone to watch Saylor play softball at the rec department for the drafting game. That's when they see who's going the summer all star league.

"Saylor got to be the pitcher, which was really her dream. She had always been a backup pitcher, but the original girl had sprained her ankle. She was so excited.

"Now, the coach didn't know this, but Saylor had been practicing since she found out she was a backup pitcher. She had been managing two positions, left field and pitcher. She had practiced long and hard with my dad every bight since she had joined the team, and she knew that that day was her day.

"During the fourth inning, Saylor's pitches started getting really good. She was striking out girls who were bigger, older, and stronger than her. Her team ended up winning the game eight to two.

"After the game, her coach called her over, and we saw a man with a clip board talking to her. She looked really excited.

"She came back over to us and she was basically jumping with joy. She had just found out she had made the all star summer league.

"Dad had promised Sayels that if she made the all stars league, he would buy her a charm bracelet. And he kept his word. We dorve directly from the field to the jewelry store.

"Saylor picked out three charms to go on the silver chain she picked out. One was a bat and ball, another was a music note, and the last was a S, C, and K pressed together. She said it simbolized our brother and sisterhood.

"Kacey got a matching bracelet to match Sayels. And we were really glad she did.

"On the drive home, it started raining. Then it was storming. It was so scary. All I could remember was looking over at Saylor, and seeing her happy smile go to a frown in less then three seconds. We had just crashed.

"When I work up in the hospital, I found out about everybody. Saylor had received minor scratches and bruises, but nothing serious. I had hit my head on the car seat and blacked out, but nothing else seemed to be wrong. Dad had a broken wrist from his arm slamming into the steering wheel. Mom had scratches all over her arms. But then I heard about Kacey. Her head had rammed into the window and, from loss of blood, she had died."

Caleb stopped and I wrapped my arms around him. "I'm so sorry," I whispered in his ear.

Sapphire nodded. "Everything happened so fast," she said. "I was so confused."

"Wow," I replied. "It sounds like you went through a lot."

"Yeah," Caleb said. "But Sayels and I were okay as long as we had each other. Then I got sent here and her life basically turned upside down."

"Wait, did something happen to Saylor that I don't know about?" I asked.

"Yes," Caleb replied honestly. "When I left, Saylor felt so alone. She had lost Kacey and now it felt like I had left her. I felt really bad leaving her, but my dad said it was best for me to go. So Saylor wouldn't get too attached."

"Wow," I replied. "Why would someone do that? Saylor needed you."

Caleb shrugged. "That's just me dad," he replied. "C'mon let's go find Saylor."

We walked around the school, searching for her. When we got half an hour in, Caleb started getting worried. "Saylor!" he called out. "Saylor! Saylor!"

We looked fit what felt like forever, before I found her.

(Caleb's POV)

"Omg, Caleb come here," I said.

I ran over to where Jodi was outside. We looked under a tree and she was there in a ball, crying.

We moved quickly and got under the tree with Saylor. She was mumbling something. "Kacey," we heard her repeat. "I failed you, I'm sorry."

I wrapped my arms around her. "Shh, you didn't fail Kacey," I whispered.

"Yes I did," she replied. "I promised that I'd never take it off."

"This wasn't your fault," I told her. "Shh, you didn't fail Kacey, I promise."

Saylor nodded. Jodi hugged her. "You ready to go back inside?" she asked.

Saylor nodded again and we walked back I to McKendrick Prep. Corki and Sun Hi were onside waiting. "Hey, um, Ms. Diona said she needed to speak to us," Corki said nervously. "All of us." She looked at Saylor as she said that.

"The band?" Jodi asked.

"Yeah," Sun Hi replied. "I don't know what it is, but it's obviously XO-IQ business."

We walked down to the office in silence. Saylor held onto my hand like she used it when we were little kids. I didn't mind that people were staring, but I was worried about her.

We opened the door. "Girls," Ms. Diona said. "And Caleb, please, sit down."

Saylor, Corki, and Sun Hi sat in the chairs while Jodi and I stood up holding hands. "Now," Ms. Diona said. "It has come to my attention that XO-IQ has become the center of some... scandals here at McKendrick Prep. Now, I don't know how you do it back at home, but here we don't like thieves, and Aria Lovten has informed me that Saylor stole her charm bracelet. The one that connects her to her late sister."

Saylor froze. "SHE WHAT?!?!" Jodi asked. "That was Saylor's bracelet! For Saylor's late sister Kacey!"

Jodi put her arms around Saylor while Saylor cried on her shoulder. "Well I'm sorry," Ms. Diona said. "But I'm believing Aria at this point. And, there will be consequences. There will be no more XO-IQ."

(Jodi's POV)

"XO-IQ is being shut down?" Sun Hi asked in shock for the fourteenth time as we walked back to the dorm.

"Yes!" I replied, losing my patience. "We've been over this four times!"

We made it back to the dorm and had a surprise. Sitting on the desk chair, reading a book, was Corki's father.

"Father, what are you doing here?" Corki asked.

"I just wanted to see you," he replied.

"Oh well, here I am," she said nervously, and then I remembered why.

*Flashback*
"I, I'm failing science!" Corki burst out, before covering her mouth with both hands.
*End Flashback*

"Come here," Mr. Chang said as he gave her a hug. "It's so good to see you."

"You too," Corki replied.

"Well, I also received your progress report from the office," he said. "Shall we open it together?"

"Um, why?" Corki asked. "I mean, obviously I have all A's, what's the point?"

"Well, let's just look," he replied, and carefully opened the envelope.

He scanned through the paper with a smile until he got to the last subject. "Corki's what?" he asked himself.

"Um, Father, what is it?" Corki asked.

"Corki Chang!" he said. "You are getting a D in human science!"

"I'm sorry!" Corki said.

"This just won't do," he replied. "Corki, I'm sorry, but we're going back to China."

"No, Father please!" Corki pleaded, but he was already dragging her to the office to tell Ms. Diona the news.
