9. A Scheme
As the girl fumbles with her fingers James quickly whispers in my ear. "I know how you feel about her, but what about trying to befriend her? Then you could have her introduce you to Levi Ackerman as her friend and then you'll introduce me to Kenny Ackerman. Give it some thought." James leans back over and stretches. A selfish person normally, this wasn't surprising for him to say. That and this may really be the best opportunity that I'll ever get to get close to Ackerman. Bria moved forward and stood up to stand by James.
"Umm, I'm very sorry if I interrupted something," she practically whispers.
I shake my head with a better fake smile and pat the now empty seat beside me. "I'm really flattered that you feel this way about my dancing. It's not every day that someone cares about who entertains them," I lie with the ease of water falling from the sky.
"I- it- it's not just your dancing," she stutters as she takes the seat next to me. She's wearing a lilac ankle length skirt which she smooths out before sitting down. My teeth grit together. She's exactly Ackerman's type. "It's the way you hold yourself with confidence, and your beauty, and your boldness. It felt like you knew exactly what you wanted and weren't going to compromise on anything to get it. You just seem so powerful." And you seem so weak. I thought. "Even if dancing isn't your main work, I'm interested in whatever it is you do. If possible, I was wondering if maybe we could go somewhere and talk sometime? I don't have a lot of free time but if I knew where you lived or liked to go..."
I force a chuckle out. "Are you asking me on a date? If my memory serves me correct, you were seated with a rather handsome gentleman. Are you two not in a relationship?"
If possible, her cheeks grow even more red and her hands fly up. As if trying to swat my words away, she flails her hands back and forth. "N-no!" Her face pales at the sound of her raising her own voice before she grows red again. "No, not a date. Yes, I was seated with him. And, um, I suppose we kind of have a relationship... of a sort. But I don't want it."
I nearly stab myself. What the hell is with this girl? "Well if you would like, we can talk about it over some drinks. The bar on 8th is my favorite."
The girl smiles for the first time. "That sounds great. I'm really happy about that."
