From poor to rich, you will find everyone located all over Mumbai in their respective societies. The lower middle class and poor living in Chawls typically have two to four-storeyed buildings that have single occupancy rooms next to each other on a particular floor, with a shared toilet on each floor and two exits on either side.
Upper-middle class living in flats, one-story houses who are basically working in commercial markets and services. Then comes the riches, Bollywood stars, business, fashion, and top industrialists. This city has everything and the chase to earn money never ends.
There is love, hatred, crime, and happiness every family has its own issues which they rarely discuss. Today, we are here to tell you the story of a middle-class family and their struggles with the marriage of their daughter and the aftermath consequences.
It was a Monday morning, and a lady in her mid-40s was working in the kitchen. She had packed two lunch boxes, she shouts "8 baj gaye hai tum dono ko office jaana hai ki nahi??"
"Bas aaye" one the male voice and the other female voice responded from their respective rooms.
She then places the breakfast on the dining table, her husband comes out of the room and quickly picks up the paratha. "Vineet.. Baithke khao"
"Der ho rahi hai Roo.." he replies and picks up the lunch box from the table.
"Acha suno.. Shyam ko jaldi aa jaana mehraji aane waale hai aapki laadki ko dekhne" Ruhana reminds him.
Vineet remembers "haan mujhe yaad hai.. Kal se tum 50 baar mujhe yaad karwa chuki ho!" he said.
"Haan karwa chuki ho.. Kyuki pichhli baar na toh tum ghar aaye they aur na tumhari beti.. Kitna awkward ho gaya tha mere liye sambhalna" Ruhana replied.
Vineet smiles and says "wo actually tumhari beti ne hi kaha tha late aane ko.."
"Ache se jaanti hun!!" Ruhana replies.
Vineet glances at the time and it was 8.30. He shouts "mannu.. Jaldi aao local train miss ho jayegi toh late ho jaogi tum"
Manvi comes out of the room adjusting her dress properly. She sits down on the chair and hands her earrings to Ruhana. She makes them wear her while she eats breakfast.
"Papa.. wo mera phone kharab ho gaya hai" Manvi said.
Vineet smiled "toh naya lelo.. Roo.. isko paise de dena" he spoke looking at Ruhana. Though Manvi is earning her parents had asked her to keep it as savings and secure it for the future. Till her marriage, they will do everything for her.
"Thik hai de dungi! Mannu shyam ko tum jaldi aa jaana samjhi na. Pichli baar ki tarah agar tum dono baap beti der se aaye na toh ghar mein gusne nahi dungi main" Ruhana warned them.
"Haww.." She hugs Vineet and said "Dekha papa mumma ko kitni jaldi hai mujhe ghar se bhejne ki"
Vineet caressed her head while Ruhana replies "koi jaldi nahi hai mannu.. Padhai khatam ho gayi tumhari.. Job bhi lag gayi hai! Ab nahi toh kab karogi shaadi?"
"Baat toh sahi hai beta.. Agar tumhe koi pasand hai toh bata do usse kara denge tumhari shaadi" Vineet says.
Manvi stands up, picks up the lunch box, and replies "koi pasand nahi hai mujhe! Samajh gayi ki umar ho chuki hai meri ab.. Time pe aa jaungi shyam ko"
Her parents smile at her maturity. She places a kiss on Ruhana's cheeks and moves out with Vineet.
Vineet sits on the bike, while Manvi sits beside him. Ruhana comes out and waves bye to both of them.
Vineet dozes off towards the local station. "Mannu.. Dekho shyam ko waqt nahi milega isliye abhi bata raha hun tumhe.. Ladka pasand nahi aaye toh na kah dena.. Koi jaldbaazi nahi hai" Vineet spoke.
"Jee papa.. Aur waise bhi aapne aur mumma ne mere liye ab tak jo kiya hai acha ki kiya hai! Toh ladka bhi aap dono best hi dekhoge na mere liye" Manvi replies while keeping her head on his shoulder.
Vineet stops the bike in front of the station, Manvi hops off the bike and rushes into the station.
She boards the local train and sits in the women's compartment. After about 10 stops, she steps out of the train and runs toward the office which was just out of the railway station.
She sits at the desk and begins to work. Her colleague who was next to her said "exact time pe aayi ho"
"Haan thanks to papa.. Time pe mujhe station chod dete hai" She replies with a smile.
"Ek scooty kyun nahi le leti ho tum?" Sneha asked.
Manvi looks at her and replies "nahi maang sakti hun unse.. Apni zarooraton ko kaat kaatke unhone mujhe bada kiya hai! Kisi cheez ki kami nahi hone di hai mujhe.. Aur ab shaadi bhi toh karni hai meri.."
"I understand yaar.. Hum middle class logo ki yahi problem hoti hai! Waise boss na bahut khush hai hamare kaam se ho sakta hai next month humhe promotion mil jaaye aur incentive bhi" Sneha said getting excited.
"Phir toh main pakka scooty lungi installments pe.." Manvi spoke dreamily.
Sneha smiled hearing her words. The day ends and Manvi heads back home early as promised to Ruhana.
At home
Vineet was home early, he had even brought sweets and the things Ruhana had messaged him.
"Roo main sab le aaya hun kuch rah gaya ho toh bata do main jadi se le aaunga" He said.
Ruhana checks the bags "Sab hai Vineet.. Ladke waale aate hi honge lekin tumhari beti abtak nahi aayi hai" she said looking at the clock hanging on the wall.
"Aa jayegi Roo.. local trains kabhi kabhi late ho jaati hai na!" Vineet spoke favoring his daughter.
"Haan pata hai mujhe! Kitni baar kaha hai usse scooty lele par nahi" Ruhana said.
"Ab badi ho gayi hai.. Samajhti hai kya lena chahiye aur kya nahi" Vineet replied meaningfully.
Ruhana smiled hearing his words "Wo toh hai.." she agrees with him.
Manvi comes home, she places the tiffin on the table. Ruhana asked "kaisa tha din?"
"Bahut hi acha tha mumma.." she replied. Her eyes fell on the samosa, she picks it up and Ruhana hits her arm.
"Mehmaano ke liye hai mannu baad mein khana" Ruhana said.
She made a face, she glances at Vineet who says "khane do na Roo.."
Manvi eats and goes to her room to freshen up. Ruhana glared at him and said "Tumne hi bigadke rakha hai.."
"Ek lauti beti hai! Kya pata ye rishta fix ho jaaye toh ab bigadna toh banta hai" He replies with a wink.
She smiles upon hearing his words. Ruhana goes to the kitchen to prepare some snacks while Vineet arranges things properly in the hall.
This is a perfect happy middle-class "Singhaniya" family, Ruhana and Vineet fulfilled all their daughter's wishes by sacrificing their own dreams. As Manvi becomes an adult she understands the sacrifices her parents had done to raise her. She is sweet, and caring, and loves her parents immensely.
