A Gender-Neutral Pronoun
(Somewhere around Jun/Jul 2022)
So last time I asked about this, some people answered that whatever you wanted to go by was fine, and that's fine; I agree.
But now "they" is an official pronoun on LinkedIn and a bunch of other stuff.
TRUST ME THAT CREATING A NEW PRONOUN IS BETTER THAN USING "they" OR "zhe." We NEED a gender-neutral pronoun, not only for people who don't identify as male or female but also for when we have no idea what gender someone is.
I know German, and sie (pronounced the same as zhe, hence why I don't like that pronoun) means she, they, or you (formal). It gets confusing!! We should have a different pronoun than "they" or at least have "they" act like a singular noun when it's referring to a single person. (Fun fact: that's how sie as she is conjugated, while the difference between they and you (formal) is a capital letter. Yes, a frigging capital letter.)
Also, as a grammar geek, "they/them" drives me nuts because we're literally promoting bad grammar!!! I am ASHAMED that I use "they/them" as a singular pronoun for someone of an unspecified gender!!!
Sooo... with that said, I've been brainstorming some ideas for an official gender-neutral pronoun, so feel free to give your ideas. Please!! And please spread this!!
Format: s/he/etc., his/her(s)/etc., him/her/etc., girl/boy
esh, ers/irs, erm, birl (With some inspiration from a little clip shown on the news, I combined the pronouns for this one, and I actually really like this.)
thoi, thois, thoim, birlth? (I used "they/them" for this one.)
ree/ri, ris, rim/reem, birler (I came up with this one from thinking about his vs her.)
hex, hix, rex?/herx?, birlx (The x is a common addition to gendered nouns like prince(ss), so that's what I was going for with this....)
YY Gender's pronouns: Shihe (shehe w/ Shion), hez, Hir, He-ree???, birl
