I Hope You're Happy Too

Veronica's POV
Everyone doesn't know what to say or do. "What are you talking about?" Hank stands up. "I know all about Carol. Tell her Hank. Tell her!" JD demands. "Carol Anderson? The woman who runs the company I work for?" Hank asks. "I saw you two at dinner together last night." JD hisses. "We were having a business meeting." Hank says. "You seemed pretty friendly. Are you like that in every business meeting?" He stares at him intensely. "Hank, is this true?" Jill looks at Hank. "No! I have no clue what the hell he's talking about! We had a meeting and went our separate ways!" Hank tells her. "How dare you lie to her like that!" JD shouts. "Okay, you and I need to talk." I get up and drag JD outside.
"What the fuck have you done?" I yell. "What have I done? What has he done? He cheated on my mom." He continues. "No he didn't! Stop! Why do you always have to start fights and ruin your life? You ruined our relationship because of your fucking ego. Now you're trying to destroy your mom's relationship that she fucking deserves! Just stop!" I push him. "Why do you never defend me? You never have?" JD says. "Are you kidding me? Who defended you when you were on trial for murdering your dad? When my mom hated you?" I get louder. "That was in high school. When have you recently defended me?" JD crosses his arms. "We haven't talked in two years! You haven't let me defend you! I was the one who had the balls to finally call and apologize for a fight that was your fault!" I argue. "What's next! You're gonna ruin your relationship with Eva like you did me and Zoe! What the fuck is with y-" Next thing I know his lips are slamming into mine. I push him off of me and slap him. "Wow. You really do want to ruin all of your relationships." I walk back inside with tears forming in my eyes. "What happened?" Alyssa asks. "Nothing. Say goodbye to everyone. We're leaving. Dad!" I look for my dad. "He's on the front porch." Hank tells me.
I walk with Alyssa out to the front porch. "I figured we'd be leaving soon so I just sat out here." My dad says. "Okay. Well we're leaving now." I go to the car. Tears stream down my face as I drive us home. Once we get back to my dad's, I go upstairs and begin sobbing. JD just made everything worse. "Baby what's wrong?" Alyssa rubs my back. "JD and I got into a fight and then he kissed me." I wipe away the mascara running down my cheeks. "What?" Alyssa says a little too loud. "Yeah." I sniffle. "I'll kill him." Alyssa stands up. "No, Alyssa." I grab her arm. "He can't do that, Veronica." She uses a stern voice. "You don't think I know that?" I try to pull her down onto the bed. "I know you know. But that's so wrong. Does Eva know?" She looks at me. "I don't think so. Unless she saw us out the back door." I tell her. "She literally changed her entire life for him and he pulls this? It's just wrong." She shakes her head.

JD's POV
I wake up in my room at my mom's house. I have the hangover of the century. I still remember everything that happened last night. I accused Hank of cheating on my mom. And I kissed Veronica. She must be pissed at me. "Hey." A voice says. I roll over and look at the door. Eva is there with disappointment all over her face. "Hey." I try to sit up. "How's my mom?" I ask. "She's fine. After Veronica left, I brought you up here, and she and Hank had a talk in their room. He didn't cheat on her, JD." Eva leans against the door. "I know that now. And also, there's something I should tell you. Last night I-" She interrupts me, "I saw you kiss Veronica." I look down. "I was watching you two fight. Then when you kissed her, I stopped looking. Then she came in crying." She explains. "I'm so sorry. It was-" She stops me again. "Listen. I am okay with you being friends with your ex. What I'm not okay with is you kissing said ex. Especially when she didn't want you to. Also what you did to your mom last night was not okay. I don't want to be with someone who does malicious things like that." She comes closer to me. "It wasn't meant to be malicious. I just-" I stop myself this time. "Not everyone is going to hurt her. I know your dad was terrible but Hank is not your dad." She starts to walk out. "I know." I sigh.
She stops and turns around, "I have to ask you something and if I sense an ounce of dishonesty, I'm gone." I go to speak but she continues, "are you still in love with her?" I know she means Veronica. "Babe it's been four years." I argue. "I didn't ask how long it's been. I asked if you're still in love with her." She walks toward me. "I didn't kiss her because I'm in love with her. I just kissed her in the heat of the moment." She shakes her head, "I'm leaving. Come talk to me when you're ready to tell me the truth." With that, she leaves.
Am I still in love with her? It's been years. We both decided we're better as friends. But what if we aren't? What am I talking about? She's with Alyssa. She's happy. I'm happy too. Eva's amazing. Why is this happening now? Why am I questioning things now? Did I just ruin things with Eva? Oh God. What have I done?
Alyssa's POV
When I wake up, Veronica is already gone. She's in the kitchen making pancakes. "Hey babe. Where's your dad?" I kiss her on the cheek. "At work." She doesn't turn around. "I'm sorry about last night. What he did wasn't okay." I hold her from behind, resting my head on her shoulder. "Yeah." She sighs. "I'll be right back. Is it okay if I use your car?" I start to leave. "Sure." She continues making the pancakes. I grab the keys and drive to Jill and Hank's. I knock and Jill answers the door. "Hey Alyssa! What brings you here?" She peeks her head out of the door. "Where's JD?" I ask. "In his room. Why?" She opens the door a little more. "We need to talk." I tell her. "Okay," Jill turns around, "JD!" She calls upstairs.
JD comes down and takes Jill's place at the door. "Hey Alyssa. What's-" I grab him and pin him against one the porch's beams. "Ow! What the hell is your problem!" He tries to get away. "What the hell is my problem? What the hell is yours? You can't destroy your mom's relationship and kiss your ex just because you're drunk and angry! Veronica left here in tears last night!" I shout. "I'm sorry, okay?" He squirms. "So tell me something? Did you do that to be a dick or do you actually have feelings for her?" I ask. "No of course I don't. I love Eva. I'm marrying Eva." He insists. "Good." I let him go.
I leave and go back to Veronica's. She's finishing up pancakes when I get there. "Hey. I'm almost done if you want to dish up-" I kiss her. "What was that for?" She smiles. "I just love you." I put my arms around her neck. "I love you too. So where'd you go?" She starts to make a plate. "To threaten JD." I say honestly. "What?" She stops. "He needs to understand that what he did wasn't okay." I make my own plate. "I'm sure he knows that. He was drunk and acting out." Of course she's defending him. She isn't anything if she isn't loyal. "Okay. I'll just drop it so we can enjoy the rest of the day." I kiss her cheek and put food on my plate. "Thank you." Veronica lets out a sigh of relief.

JD's POV
I drive over to my old apartment, Eva and James are putting the last thing in the moving van and James closes the door. "Hey." I wave. "Hey." He waves back. Eva sees me and goes back inside. "Babe, wait." I follow her inside. "What, JD? What do you want?" She turns around. "I do have feelings for her, Eva. But I'm tired of wasting my time on someone who won't choose me. She's happy, I'm happy. That's it. I love you and I want to marry you." I walk forward and hold her face in my hands. "Let's set our date soon so we can spend the rest of our lives together." I tell her. "Okay." Eva laughs. We kiss and hold that kiss for a while. "Oh." Heather walks out of the bedroom with a handful of stuff. "I'll just see myself out. I'll put this in your car, Eva." She rushes out the door. "So when do you wanna get married?" Eva asks. "Let's give us... five months." I say. "Sounds good." She smiles.

Veronica's POV
I wake up and get ready. I'm helping JD and Eva move into their new apartment. JD and I haven't talked since our fight. Eva was the one who invited me. We walk in and Owen is in the living room. "Hey! How was Thanksgiving?" He realizes that he knows exactly how it went, "I- Nevermind." He hugs me. "It was okay. How was yours?" I hug him back. "It was good. I spent it with Will's family. My dad uninvited me. My mom and him apparently fought the entire time. I'm so glad I wasn't there." He shakes his head.
JD walks out of the kitchen and stops when he sees me. "Oh hey." He just kind of stands there. "I will leave you two to talk." Owen walks into the back bedroom. "Hey." I blurt out. I don't know what else I can possibly say. "Listen, I'm sorry I kissed you. It was stupid." He steps forward. "It's fine. You were drunk." I look down. "Ronnie please look at me." He hasn't called me that in years. "What do you want me to say?" I ask. "Anything." He takes another step forward. "Okay. Well I'm upset. You were really destructive the other night. You tried to ruin your mom's relationship, our relationship, and the relationships we have with our partners. And that wasn't okay." I tell him. "I understand. And I don't want to ruin your relationship with Alyssa. Because I really hope that you're happy and that she makes you happy." He keeps getting closer. "Well. I hope you're happy too." This time I step forward. Finally we embrace and hug each other tightly. "I'm an asshole." He groans. "Yeah you are." I laugh.
I tap my foot anxiously, staring at the clock. Where is she? They! Where are they? I care about Alyssa being here too. There's a knock at the door so I stand up. "What is up with you?" Eva asks. Veronica and Alyssa walk in. "Hey!" Veronica hugs Eva. Over Eva's shoulder, Veronica smiles at me. "Well Merry Christmas." I open my arms once Veronica and Eva stop hugging. "Merry Christmas, JD." She hugs me. She does it for a second before letting go. "So where's your mom, Hank, and Katie?" Alyssa asks. "They're at Hank's parents' house. Heather and James are there too." I tell her. "Oh cool." Alyssa nods. "Hey Alyssa. I have something to show you. I need my maid of honor's opinion on it." Eva drags Alyssa off upstairs.
Veronica and I sit on the couch next to each other. It's A Wonderful Life is on. "Remember watching this during senior year?" Veronica nudges me. "Yeah." I laugh. The way we're sitting, our shoulders are touching. "Hey." I turn my head to look at her. "Hey." She smiles. "I'm sorry for kissing you. I know I already said it, but I wanted to say it again." I say. "It's okay." She pats my leg. Her lips are so close. She definitely doesn't mean for them to be that close but the temptation to kiss her is strong. I sit up. JD stop. Veronica and you can't happen. "What's wrong?" Veronica sits up. "Nothing." I stand. "Okay then." She smirks.
Alyssa and Eva come back. "Oh my God! That's adorable!" Eva is saying when they get to the bottom of the stairs. "You should tell JD." Eva looks at me. "Tell me what?" I ask. "So Veronica got me a necklace with our initials. But the best part was the note. It said 'Together we've seen both sunlight and storms. Here's to hoping for many more years of them with you.' Isn't that so romantic?" Alyssa gushes. I look at Veronica. "So romantic." I smile in the realest way I can. "JD never says that kind of stuff to me." Eva says. "I do too! My proposal was extremely romantic. Just wait to see what I have to say at the wedding." I argue. "I'm kidding, babe." Eva puts her arm around my waist. "You guys are going to be an amazing married couple." Veronica puts her hand on her heart. "I know!" Eva kisses my cheek. Something about Veronica being excited for us getting married feels weird. I still remember when she was excited for me and her to get married. JD stop! Eva is right here. You love her. Veronica is nothing but your ex and current best friend. She is in love with Alyssa and I'm in love with Eva.
