Luna P.O.V
Well, it's been a week since the ball, and my talk with Aramis. After having that night on the Botany tower, I felt like proving myself. So I joined the tournament with my friend, Annabel, but I call her Annie. I met her in my art class last year. I smiled up at her, and she smiled back. As we got ready to enter the stadium, we took like to make sure we looked like formidable opponents, Annie had her blonde hair tied back into a pony tail, while I had a set of gold claws on each of my fingers. We both walked forward through the arena gate, and we're shocked by what we saw.
It looked like the whole Botany Tower had been moved into the arena, as a large hedge maze was designed inside. The whole school was in the stands, and the head master was standing in front of several entrances. Everyone had sent their best mages into the competition. I even saw Zenin and Zara, Archaea and some other girl from Zerath house, Akuma and Nosmas, Alex and Will. Yet, strangely, Aramis wasn't there. He was really excited for the tournament, did he chicken out?
Annie and I took our spot right in between Team Akumas and Wilex. We had five minutes before we were allowed inside the maze.
"Hey, where's Aramis and Aiko? Aren't they coming?" I asked them as I took my spot, already using my heightened senses to try to scent what was up above.
"I don't know, they were supposed to be here, maybe their late?" Alex said, looking around the stands for the two.
"Maybe he finally accepted the fact that he's a horrible Mage!" We heard Zenin shouting from the opposite end.
"Figures, I wouldn't let him win either way..." That was Archaea, he muttered it under his breath, but thanks to my heightened hearing, I could hear the impending doom.
There was a flash of light, and Aramis appeared behind Zenin, covering himself in an Illusion of a lava golem, before disguising his voice into a loud roar.
We all laughed as Zenin jumped up, turning around and shrieking like a girl when he saw the illusion. Aramis dispelled the Illusion before looking at Zenin with a goofy face, walking backwards and moving his fingers back and forth. I couldn't believe it...the cheeky kid was taunting the guy who tried to kill him.
That's when he bumped into Archaea. He turned and glared at his seemingly dark twin, before flipping him off and walking past him. Archaea just smirked, crossing his arms and looking at Aramis leave. It may have been my imagination, but I could've sworn I saw a black glow surrounding Archaea and a faint white one around Aramis.
He smiled at us as he passed, and gave us a thumbs up while he went to his spot. Aiko had been there waiting. She must've snuck in while we were focused on Aramis.
We all turned our attention to the headmaster as he glared at all of us.
"What a childish display you lot are! Listen up brats! Professor Tuorps has moved her plants into the arena for your first challenge! In the center of this maze is a placement pedestal. There are 20 teams! Only 10 of you will make it!" He slammed his staff on the ground and a dome covered the maze. "There are many trials that you must pass in order to get the the pedestals! Good luck!" He moved aside as we ran into the maze. I laughed and bounded into the plants, if there was one thing I knew, it was plants.,
We ran down the maze, before reaching a spot covered in blue and red flowers, looking kind of like weeping bells. I stop immediately, stopping Annie before she walked into the flowers.
"What's wrong? Why'd you stop?" She asked me, looking down in confusion.
I point to the flowers. "Bellthorns....vile plants that entice animals and bees with their bright colors and scent, but once you walk on or into them, they lash out with thorn covered vines. They wrap around you, bringing you to the ground...immobile, and allowing you to rot, drawing nutrients from your body to allow them to flourish and grow further." I explain to her, before picking off a berry from the hedge and throwing it into the flowers, a vine came out and speared it. "Though I doubt the teachers would allow this to happen...I think we get disqualified if we got trapped in it."
"So...how do we get past it?" Annie asked me.
"Well, the hedges are fireproof. But Bellthorns are not, so...." I smiled as my body was engulfed in flames, I walked into the patch of flowers, as as their vines lashed out, they were burnt to ash by my aura, allowing Annie to follow be hind me in the scorched earth. "Let's finish this maze, shall we?"
And we ran off.
Akuma P.O.V
I tried to wilt the hedges, but it wouldn't work, stupid plants were immune to my magic. What's did Professor Tuorps do to these plants?! Nosmas followed closely behind me, his magic veiling his face as he looked around.
"This way. It should be faster." He muttered as he walked off towards a right turn, me trailing behind. "Hey Akuma...I'm sorry, about what happened at the pool the other day."
"Don't be." I said, stopping. "It's fine, we got out of it ok."
"N-Not all of us...."
"What do you mean?"
"Well. Akuma, we should probably tell Alex that~"
A large explosion occurred in the path ahead of us, followed by two sets of loud curses.
"REVOLTING ROYAL!"
"BARBARIC BRUTE!"
We both groaned. The paths lead to each other? And Aramis and Zenin had met each other in the maze.
"Let's go." Nosmas said, I nodded as we ran past the next couple of bends, following the sounds of fighting and the sight of flashing lights.
As we turned the last corner, we found a circular part of the maze, where glyphs surrounded Aramis and Zenin, Aiko and Zara stuck outside, watching.
"What's going on here?" I ask, stepping forward, before Nosmas pulled me back.
"I wouldn't. Those runes state that there must be a battle between those inside. The loser's team must wait ten minutes before advancing." He explained, and I nodded as we both sat down to watch the fight unfold.
Aramis P.O.V
I narrowly dodges the next volley of chains.
"Would you quit it?" I say. Launching myself into the air. "Summon: Borealis!" A beam of various lights flow from my hand, encasing both myself, and Zenin. "Summon: Fire ball!" A ball of flames flies at Zenin, only to be blocked by his own chains.
"What did you do to me?" He screams, lashing out with his chains, one of them wrapped around my ankle, slamming me to the floor he rushed towards me.
Akuma P.O.V
The fact is, Aramis couldn't beat Zenin. He may have been strong, his summoning unparalleled, but he couldn't get a single hit on someone who could read his attacks. For every creature he summon, a spear impaled it, every spell, a proper block or dodge, followed by a forceful blow. Within the next five minutes of the fight, Aramis look a lot worse for wear than Zenin did.
I couldn't stand to watch anymore, tearing myself from Nosmas' grip, I rushed to Aramis' side, putting up my fists and enveloping them in shadows. "Shadow Magic: Fists of Shade!" I shout as two phantom hands formed to either side of me, balling up into fists.
As I took a swing with my right hand, so did one of the shadow hands, sending Zenin back a foot. I followed that up with another blow from the left, alternating hits until he was at the edge of the barrier keeping us inside. After that, u just kept hitting him, with my fists this time, as the shadows left me.
After a while, he just started laughing, I paused for a moment. My mistake. The minute I stopped hitting him, he grabbed my wrists and threw me to the ground.
"Stupid child, not only do you not choose me, but you think you can hit me as well? Dear child, you are sorely mistaken. There is no one in this dimension that can stop me from getting you!" He picked me up, throwing me to the ground again.
Then those chains, those stupid, god forsaken chains wrapped around me, pulling me up to my feet.
"You'll be my princess...forever."
Aramis P.O.V
"You'll be my princess...forever."
Oh. Hell. No.
I would not let any lips sanctify Akuma's but Nosmas' and that was final.
Are you ready Aramis? Get up, now...
So I did.
Good, now, you need to help Akuma, how do you do it? Pfft, easy one, separation. I need space between her and Zenin.
Ok, how do you separate them? Wind, I needed to blow them apart. And keep them away. But...I don't know any wind elementals. I can't summon any.
So that won't work, what's next? I...I don't know, with her so close, nothing I can do would spare her arm.
Nothing at all? And I thought you were a rather bright Prince. Light...you're right!
"Summon: Heavenly Gaze!" A large shaft of light enveloped the two of them, what I didn't count of was Akuma's shadow magic. It counter acted my light, and when it dimmed, they were still locked in a wrestling match.
Well, now you've done it, come on you insolent boy, things aren't working, don't get upset over it. Wow, my emotion magic, I totally forgot about that...it's never really helped before, but maybe...
"Emotion magic: Disgust!" I filled both of their heads with the most gruesome and awful things I could think of (Akuma's head less than Zenin's of course) and to my surprise, it worked. Zenin pushed Akuma away from him. She ran back behind me once more.
"Ok, so what's the plan?" She asked, the fear in her voice evident.
"Hey, don't worry about it, trust your Star Prince ok? I'll get us out." Well, I'd try at least.
So what's the plan genius? Would you stop that?!
Stop what? I've tried to help you and you haven't even thanked me. Seems pretty rude for a child of your upbringing. Just shut up ok?! I don't need your help!
Pfft, doubtful...but ok, if you don't need my help, I'll just leave then. I shuddered for a second, and it felt like half of my magic had just left my body, but that was impossible...right?
"Summon: Ice Drackon!" I expected a light blue orb to appear in my palm, but it didn't. "Uh oh.."
"Uh oh? What does uh oh mean?" Akuma shouted, pounding a fist into my back.
"Uh, I may or may not be able to summon large creatures...oops."
.
.
.
.
.
"WHAT?! Why can't you do that? Your a summoning Mage! You should be able to!"
"I know what I should be able to do but, guess what, it isn't working!" I screamed, slowly moving backwards while I thought of another plan.
"Hehe, looks like someone can't call for friends? How sad." Zenin stared at me, a fake pity face on his own, before grinning. "Maybe you just need to jump start it? How bout I just, see if I can get it flowing?" He laughed before throwing chains towards me, several of them slicing my arms and legs, and one grazing my cheek.
"Nothing yet? Hmm... Maybe this will work!" He rushed towards me, arm glowing. "Transformation Magic: Chain Blade!" As he stopped in front of me, his arm had formed a sharp edge, chains wrapped along the sides. As several more chains wrapped around my neck, he plunged the sword into my stomach. "And no one will know you were gone, you're a nobody your majesty, just accept that."
Akuma P.O.V
No...
I didn't just see what I thought I saw. Aramis wasn't stabbed, he didn't cough up blood, and Zenin didn't kick his body off of his arm blade thing.
This wasn't happening, I was just having a nightmare. At any second I'd wake up in my room, and Luna would come by, telling me it was time for class.
But it was real...and Zenin turned to face me next.
"Tut tut Akuma, that's one of your friends, gone. How many others till you agree to be mine?" He smirked and moved closer.
"I'm so lonely y'know. I just want someone to keep me company."
"The only friends you'll ever have are thieves, murderers, and your family..the rats!" I channeled my magic, and fell into my own shadow, which promptly disappeared.
"Hey, where did you go?" Heh, that stupid fool, I was in his shadow. I stood up, quickly grabbing him by the neck and throwing him to the ground.
Before he could react, I threw my knees to either side of him, pinning him to the floor.
"You lose. Let us leave....please." I cried, tears spilling from my eyes and onto him. He looked scared, and sad. He nodded, and the barrier melted away.
Aiko quickly rushed to Aramis, scooping him up, before staring at me. "Let's hope he's alright....for all of our sakes." She whispered before running off deeper into the maze, the limp, bloody body in her arms.
Nosmas came next to me. "Come on Kums, we have to hurry." He took my hand, which normally would've made my heart and stomach burst with butterflies. But I felt nothing, I was too numb.
Nosmas took care of the rest of the obstacles. And when we reached the podium, we came in seventh. I saw Luna and her friend on the second place podium. And I still didn't see Aiko.
I was starting to get worried...if Aramis didn't get help soon, not even the strongest healing magic would bring him back.
Another team made it to the podiums, before I saw Aiko. And what I saw made me feel even worse.
Aramis was slung over her shoulders in a fireman's carry, with her tails supporting his body. She carried broadswords in both hands, and her clothing was torn and bloody. As she stepped on the ninth place podium, it spchanged from white to red, before they were gone, taking the podium with them.
If Aramis died.....was it my fault?
