Once, there was a girl
Who, for her parents, was their pride
Good at heart and
An apple of their eye

She was good in studies
But had her share of ups and downs
She worked hard day and night
Without a single frown

In every meeting that happened,
She got praised by teachers all
But once, something happened
That she hadn't expected at all!

New session, new teacher
It was the first parent-teacher meet
'She's just an average child',
The english teacher said, passing the attendance sheet.

Her parents, who were smiling
Became a bit serious
'But she performs well in all the tests',
Told her father, a bit curious.

'I don't expect much from her',
The teacher replied in return
And with heavy shoulders and hunched back,
They stood up to return.

The words of the teacher
Gave a serious blow to her heart
And hence, a fire ignited in her
And she got ready to make a fresh start.

Working even harder,
She focused on her basics
If english was her new battle,
She was ready to face it.

Grammar, comprehension and essays
And she practiced what not!
And when the exams came knocking
She had practiced the whole lot!

Then came the results day
When she would get to know
Whether her hardwork had paid off
Or she would get another blow.

Standing in front, one by one,
Her teacher called the students
Handing over their results
He also gave his comments

And when he called her name,
She went to him trembling
But to her surprise,
He put his hand on her head, smiling.

"Clap for this girl, everyone
She's the only one in the class
To score full in grammar,"
And hence, clapped the whole class.

Seeing everyone clapping for her,
Her lips broke into a smile so wide
Earlier, the teacher who didn't believe in her,
Was today looking at her with pride.
