Chapter 8: Four or Six?

It had been quite an eventful Christmas break, especially for Harry and Cho.

The tragic circumstances the pair had been put through had Draco wondering. What if it had been himself and Hermione who had lost the baby? What if himself and Hermione would lose a baby? He hadn't really ever wanted children, well not until the law had been put into place, but lately when he thought about miniatures of himself and Hermione it made him smile. If he and Hermione ever lost one he was sure it would break them, especially after seeing Cho and Harry. Something that had been so bonded four days previously was now disconnected. They didn't speak, or move, or eat.

Hermione had been desperately trying to help them but nothing would work until Draco forcefully dragged Harry out of the room where he and Weasley gave him a manning up talk. They had managed to convince them to stay with Draco and Hermione until they had to go back to school.

All the seventh years had decided to go back to school for a New Years Celebration. Harry and Cho had taken one compartment, Hermione and Draco were a few down from them. Due to the fact that only seventh years were coming back, every couple had their own compartment. Draco was stretched out across the seat in the Malfoy compartment with Hermione' head on his stomach. He ran his fingers through her hair and played with her curls.

"Draco?" She asked.

"Mmhm." Draco responded.

"Have you thought about, you know, the future?" She asked quietly.

"I used to, now my futures pretty much planned out for me." He answered dully.

"Do you know what you want to be when you leave Hogwarts?"

"Well, for a while I was certain I wanted to be a banker, but I think I've changed my mind." He mumbled.

If there was one thing in the entire world he hated, it was being confused. It made him agitated and hot-tempered, and that, when he thought of what he wanted to be was exactly how he felt.

Hermione sat up. "Well what would you now like to be?"

Draco tried to avoid this question. "What would you like to be?"

"I don't know. A teacher? A charity founder? A ministry employee? An auror? An author?

"Well that doesn't matter right now because there's now two things I'm certain you will be." Draco replied quietly.

Hermione gave him a confused look.

Draco leaned in. "A wife," he kissed her forehead. " and a mother." He kissed her chin. "And if your nothing else, it won't matter to me, because you'll be those two things." He kissed her lips. "Even though I'm certain you want world domination." He said casually leaning back.

Hermione laughed. "Very tempting, Malfoy."

"Draco." He corrected her.

Not many people were allowed to call him by his given name, but if you were allowed, it was because he wanted you to call him by it.

He kissed her lips again. "And by the way, a healer."

"A healer?"  She questioned.

"Yes, a healer. I want to be a healer, especially after seeing Cho in hospital." He said looking down.

"Draco Lucius Malfoy, a healer?" She questioned.

"Not a healer. The healer." He corrected.

Hermione giggled. "Well you'll be the best looking healer in all of England."

Draco scoffed, teasingly. "Like I didn't know that already."

Hermione raised her eyebrow.

"And you'll be married to the best looking healer in all of England." He said pulling her towards him.

Hermione looked down and started playing with the buttons on his shirt. "Speaking of which. You know after the five years, do you think we'll still be together?"

Draco sat up a little. "Hermione Jean Granger- to be Malfoy. I love you, don't ever question that. We'll be married until we're old, we'll have our children..."

"How many?" Hermione asked.

"How many what?" He asked back.

"Children." She replied.

"Six." He answered casually.

"Six!?" She shrieked.

"Six." He confirmed.

"Four!" She demanded.

"Four!?" He asked unbelievably.

"Yes, four." She confirmed.

"Not a chance. Six!" He demanded again.

"We're only required to have two!"

"Exactly! Those two, then your extra four. That's six!" He explained."

"Six children!!" She gaped.

"Now your getting it." He told her.

"Why on earth, would we ever have six children!?" She questioned her fiancé, who had obviously gone a mental.

"You're an only child, I'm an only child. We're making up for the siblings we should have had." He shrugged.

Hermione' eyes bulged. "Then I trust your the one who will be pushing them out!"

"No, of course not, but if I become a healer I can deliver them!" He responded.

Hermione fell back on the seat, tired from arguing. "You've gone mental."

Draco laughed. "Mark my words Granger, we'll have six."

"Four." She responded with an annoyed tone.

Hermione stood against the wall in the Great Hall. It was loud, crowded and stuffy. Not exactly the situations she like to be in. She checked her watch,11:27. Surely she could escape out for some fresh air and be back in time for the countdown. She put down her glass of wine and headed outside where she saw Justin and Pansy Finch-Fletchey snogging against the wall. She turned on her heel, disgusted. Yes, she and Draco often did that but usually in the privacy of their living quarters.

She walked not sure, to where exactly she was going until she reached the foot of the stairs heading up to the astronomy tower. She decided to head up knowing she would get some fresh air.

In the hall Draco looked around, he couldn't see Hermione anywhere. He put his hand inside his jacket pocket where he kept the engagement ring he was going to give her at midnight. After seeing Angelina's he decided he wanted to do this the right way and propose. He searched the room again not being able to find her. He checked his watch. 11:43. He had roughly fifteen minutes to find her.

He left the hall where he found the Weaselette talking to Looney Lovegood.

"Have you seen Hermione?" He asked.

Dean Thomas cut in. "She's up by the astronomy tower."

Draco nodded a thanks and set off. He checked his watch again, 11:49. He started to run.

By the time he reached the astronomy tower he was breathless. It was 11:57 by the time he ran up the stairs.

Hermione stood by the railing. She heard a noise and turned around only to find a red-faced nervous looking Draco.

"Draco what's wrong?" She asked concerned.

Draco took in that moment so he could remember it. Hermione young, beautiful. The moon light on her pale skin. Her straight hair falling to the middle of her back. Her chocolate eyes that made him go weak at the knees. She was wearing a short, white dress that made her look like an angel.

He checked his watch 11:59. He heard the countdown starting. He walked over to her, then reached inside his pocket for the ring.

10, 9, 8...

He dropped to his knee. Hermione gasped.

7, 6, 5..

"Hermione Jean Granger, will you marry me?"

"Oh Merlin, yes!"

Draco stood up.

4, 3, 2...

He slid the beautiful, elegant ring onto her finger.

1, Happy New Year!

Draco and Hermione passionately  kissed in the astronomy tower as the filibusters fireworks were set off. They pulled apart. Draco grinned, Hermione sensed what was coming.

"Four."

"Six!"
