Chapter 4: The Weasley Wedding
Despite their agreement Draco and Hermione weren't exactly making leaps and bounds towards a strong relationship, apart from the hours they spent snuggled up on the sofa reading late at night they barely acknowledged each other during schooltimes. Hermione spent most of her time with a distraught Ginny, who even after two weeks was still raging about the fact that the man she loved was engaged to his ex-girlfriend. Luna had reacted much better giving Neville and Hannah her blessing and best wishes behind her pained filled eyes.
Hermione was shocked at how quick Ron and Lavender had decided to wed. Apperently they were taking the get it over and done with approach. They were getting married on the thirtieth of September and today was the twenty-ninth of September. Some of the students, Ron, Lavender and their bridesmaids and groomsmen had been pardoned from classes for an intense shopping filled day for the wedding. Lavender had asked Padma, Ginny and Hermione to be her bridesmaids and Parvati to be her maid of honour. She and Ron had also asked Hermione to be the wedding planner which had proven stressful as she hadn't even been given a full week to organise it! Ron and his groomsmen Seamus, Dean and George along with bestman Harry and escorts Bill, Charlie and Percy had gone to get dress robes. Lavender pulled her bridal party into a bridal shop where her mother and her future mother-in-law were waiting.
"Mum!" Cried Ginny running forward to give her mother a hug.
"Oh hello sweetheart. Oh Hermione dear!" She greeted them taking Hermione into her arms."I've heard about Draco, dear."
Hermione shrugged. "He's not that bad."
Her doting second mother smiled at her still holding Hermione in her arms.
"And you my darling must be Lavender!" She said pulling the blond girl into a hug.
"Pleasure to meet you Mrs. Weasley." Lavender replied.
"Call me Molly, dear." Mrs. Weasley said while patting her future daughter-in-law on the cheek.
"You darlings must be the Patils." Mrs Weasley said moving to the girls flanking Lavender.
"Hello Mrs. Weasley. I'm Padma." Greeted one girl.
Parvati smiled and introduced herself while Mrs. Brown greeted Ginny and Hermione.
The girls then searched the racks for something Lavenders style.
"What exactly is it you like?" Mrs. Brown asked for the third time, her patience growing thin.
"Something that shows off my figure yet is still stylish, elegant and classy." Lavender replied.
After about ten rejections Mrs Brown snapped. "Lavender the wedding is tomorrow you don't have the time to be picky!"
Hermione's eyes kept wandering back to a mermaid style dress that she knew would look stunning on Lavender. Eventually she pulled it from the rack and showed it to Mrs. Weasley who agreed with her.
"Oh it's gorgeous!" Exclaimed Mrs. Brown. "Lav please, just try it on!"
At one look it was obvious Lavender loved it. Hermione had been right, Lavender looked like a princess. The assistant enchanted it to fit her and asked if she wanted a different coloured ribbon around the waist. Lavender made her preference of a lavender coloured ribbon. Hermione almost objected noticing a ribbon that matched the exact shade of Rons blue eyes but decided to keep her mouth shut.
The girls then found lavender coloured bridesmaids dresses, they were made of satin with a very low v-neck neckline and grey ribbon tied around the waist. The hem fell a little lower than mid thigh and suprisingly flattered everyone. Ginny noticed matching grey ties and suggested buying them for the groomsmen which was also agreed upon. The group of wedding crazed women made their way to a florist to pick out a flower arrangement and then place settings and tablecloths. It was agony for Hermione, she wanted nothing more than to be curled up on the couch with Draco. A lot of planning had gone into this last minute wedding, even then it would still be sophisticated. Hermione was tired but decided to stay back to find a wedding present from her and Draco.
Draco wandered around the castle looking for Hermione, whom he hadn't seen all day. He started to worry when at dinner he noticed Ginny Weasley and Lavender Brown were back and she wasn't. It was ten thirty before she stumbled into the out of the portrait hole weighed down with bags. Draco immediatley went to relieve her of them, before he reached her she fell backwards. Draco lunged and caught her with his arms wrapped tightly around her petite waist. She regained her balance and loooked up at his icy blueish-grey eyes. She then noticed their faces were only centimeters apart. Neither one of them moved. Draco who had also noticed their closeness took a deep breath and closed the gap. Their lips pressed together, they responded to each other. Draco felt a warmth and deepened the kiss. After what seemed like forever they pulled apart smiling at each other. Draco, after a little while loosened his grip on her and she removed her arms which had somehow wrapped themselves around the back of his neck.
Hermione looked towards the ground, blushing. "Thanks for catching me." She said softly.
Draco kissed her forehead and whispered. "Anytime."
He then grabbed some bags and brought them up to their room. Hermione followed with the rest.
Draco appeared in his usual sleep attire, pajama bottoms and nothing else. "I'm going to bed, you coming?"
Hermione had changed into her short-shorts and tank top she wore going to bed but she shook her head.
"I have to check the plans for the wedding tomorrow. "
"How's it going?" Draco asked sitting down the end of their bed.
"It's stressing me out." Hermione confessed.
Draco didn't like the look of the bags under his fiancée' eyes.
"Who in the name of Merlin expects a wedding to be planned in four days?!" The blonde exclaimed.
Hermione sighed. "Ron and Lavender." She answered giving him a quick peck on the cheek before heading down to the living room.
Draco went to sleep but woke up at quarter to three in the morning noticing that Hermione still hadn't come up to bed. He walked downstairs and saw Hermione asleep sitting up in a chair with files and folders all around her, filled with stupid flower arrangements and stuff on them. He picked up his fiancée and walked back upstairs noticing how light she was. He layed her down on the bed and snuggled up beside her, wrapping a protective arm around her before falling asleep.
Draco awoke to a shriek. Darting upwards and grabbing his wand.
"What? What's wrong?" He asked looking around noticing the panic in Hermione' eyes.
"I fell asleep! I have so much more to do!" She exclaimed and stood up.
Draco sighed and lay back down on his side. He looked at his watch.
"Hermione it's six o' clock in the bloody morning. Come back to bed!" He said into his pillow and patting the empty space beside him.
"I can't there's so many things to be done. Important things!" She shrieked again.
"You are an important thing in that..." He yawned. "...wedding and no one likes..." He yawned again. "...a tired looking bridesmaid." He stated.
Hermione stood with her arms crossed with an unimpressed expression.
"Please!" He begged. "Just for half an hour." He pleaded.
Hermione tried to hide a yawn.
"See! Your exhausted." He pointed out.
"Fine a half hour won't hurt." She gave in and climbed back into bed.
Draco smiled wrapping his arms around her again as the two fell asleep.
Draco woke up again and decided to wake Hermione as it was nearing half past nine.
"So much for half an hour." Hermione mumbled, clearly disappointed in herself while sitting at the vanity.
"You needed the sleep." Draco stated from over her shoulder giving her a quick peck on the cheek, Hermione blushed.
"Where are you going?" She asked him.
"Breakfast." He replied.
"If Ron, Harry, Seamus or Dean are down there could you give them these?" She asked passing him a small boutique bag with the grey ties in it.
"Sure." He answered.
Hermione turned around quickly before he could leave the room.
"Tell them if they don't wear them they'll have to face the wrath of Mrs. Weasley." She said shuddering.
Draco chuckled. "Will do."
He headed down towards breakfast looking for Weasley or Potter and found them sitting at the far end of the Gryffindor table.
"Weasley!" He called.
"What do yo want Malfoy?" Ron answered.
"I've been ordered to give you these." He said simply, while passing over the bag.
Ron took it and pulled out one of the ties, which he had to admit he liked.
"Any message?" He asked the blond.
Malfoy bit his lip. "Something about if you don't wear them you'll face the wrath of your mother."
Ron gulped. "Ok, thanks Malfoy."
"No problem, good luck later." Draco said giving him a pat on the back with an encouraging smile.
Ron smiled back. They seemed to have an unspoken agreement about being civil towards each other with Hermione being in the middle. Draco sat at the Slytherin table. He smiled remembering the kiss yesterday. There were sparks he was sure of it. He didn't love her but he definitely liked her. He stood up grabbing a piece of toast and headed out of the hall. He met Hermione, Lavender Brown, Ginny Weasley and the Patil twins just outside the great hall.
"I wouldn't go in there if I was you." He stated with his signature smirk.
The girls looked puzzled.
"Isn't it bad luck to see the groom before the wedding?" He questioned.
The girls instantly looked annoyed.
"Are they in there?" The weaselette asked.
Malfoy nodded.
"What are we going to do about breakfast?" The Gryffindor twin asked.
Draco saw the disappointment on Hermione' face and immediatley didn't like it. He ruffled his hair and did something very uncharacteristic of him.
"I could......arrange for food to be brought up to you." He mumbled looking at the ground.
The five girls looked at him shocked.
"Really?" Asked Lavender Brown.
Draco draped an arm over Hermione' shoulder and nodded.
"Thanks Malfoy." Said the female blond.
"Oh did you give them...." Hermione started.
"Yup." Draco cut her off.
Hermione smiled to herself looking at the ground.
"Where should I have the food brought up to?" Draco asked.
"Um, we were wondering if we could use our room, it seems we got the largest."
"Ok no problem." He said giving her a quick peck on the cheek before heading off towards the kitchen.
The other girls gasped at the size of the to-be Malfoys room.
"Are you actually joking with me! We got one tiny bedroom, one slightly bigger bedroom and we share the bathroom and sitting room with next door!" Exclaimed Lavender.
Hermione had to stop herself from giggling at the blonds outburst.
"Speaking of which," Padma started. "since when does Malfoy act like that!"
Hermione looked down and blushed.
Suddenly Draco appeared levitating five trays of breakfast food.
"Here you are ladies." He politely said setting the trays down on the coffe table.
The four other girls squealed over the manners of the gentleman. Hermione could almost hear her heart melt. She walked over and gave him a side hug.
"Thank you." She said smiling.
"Anytime." He whispered giving her a kiss, which didn't go unnoticed by the other girls who looked at each other with expressions of shock or jealousy.
The pair pulled back.
"By the way Weasley and Potter asked me to get ready with them. Did you know not one of the four of them can tie a formal tie!" He exclaimed incredulously while jogging up one of the wooden spiral staircases.
He emerged from their room a few seconds later with his dress robes.
"Yes I did actually considering I'm the one who usually has to tie them for them." Hermione replied grabbing a croissant from one of the trays.
"I'll see you later." She said smiling.
"Ok, bye darling." Draco headed for the door stopping to kiss her on the forehead.
He walked to the exiting steps.
"Oh and Lavender there's a bottle of firewhiskey in the cupboard for any nerves." Draco called.
Lavender laughed. "Thanks Malfoy!"
The four girls looked straight at Hermione who had a smirk that could rival Draco' and had a 'my fiancé is better than yours' look plastered on her face.
Draco sat at his seat knowing the ceremony was about to take place. It was being held on the edges of the forebidden forest. Ron Weasley was as pale as a ghost and shaking all over. His groomsmen were at his side laughing at him. The music started and everyone stood for the bride. Draco watched Padma walk down the aisle, then Ginny and then his heart missed a beat looking at Hermione. Her hair was straight and parted to the side. The side with less hair was clipped back with an elegant slide. Her dress flattered her in every way and Draco knew in that exact moment that he was starting to feel something for her.
