Chapter 18: Praying for Potter

It had been five weeks since Hermione and Isla had been discharged from the hospital, yet somehow she had found herself back there again. She was scared, actually she was terrified for the fate of her best friends child. Harry Potter honestly did have the worst luck imaginable. He had lost a child a year ago and now his one month premature son was fighting for his life. James Sirius Potter had been born the night before, the fourteenth of February, Valentine's day, a whole month premature. He had problems with his breathing and his heart.

Harry and Cho were absolutely petrified beyond belief. Cho couldn't handle loosing another baby, and certainly not her baby boy who she hadn't even been allowed to hold yet, and as for Harry, he loved his son at first sight and if he were to loose him the consequences were unimaginable.

Draco had stayed with one month old Isla for the rest of the night while Hermione had gone to Harry and Cho, then Neville and Hannah Longbottom were going to come over to mind her for the day so that Draco could go to St. Mungo's, plus it was practice for them as Hannah was four months pregnant.

Draco apparated to the Longbottoms house in Hogsmeade to hand Isla over to them.

As he reached the door, he lifted Isla up. She was a true beauty, she had developed a few more of Draco's characteristics. Angular features, platinum blonde hair and she was easily irritated.

Draco looked at his baby. It pained him to leave her, even if it was only for the day.

"I'll see you later angel." He said kissing her forehead.

Bill and Ron had been right, she couldn't even sit up yet, but somehow she had him wrapped around her little finger.

Neville saw him through the window and came out to him.

"Hello Malfoy, hey pretty girl." He greeted them looking at Isla.

"Hello Neville, excited for babysitting?" Draco asked rolling his eyes.

"Actually kind-of, I'll have to get used to having a baby around." Neville answered honestly. "Come in I'll get you a cup of tea."

Draco followed Neville into the house, it was big and spacious. Not as bug as Malfoy Manor, which Hermione and Draco would have to move into eventually.

"Nice place." Draco complimented.

"Thanks, it's handy. I'm teaching Herbology at Hogwarts. I go to work in the morning, work, free dinner, come home and I've got Hannah and baby Longbottom." Neville told him.

"Do you think it's a boy or a girl?" Draco asked.

"A girl." Neville answered.

"It's a boy." Hannah appeared in the kitchen, with a swollen belly.

"Hello Hannah."

"Hi Draco, and who is this little cutie?" She asked running over to Isla.

"Love, that's Isla, remember we're minding her today so Draco can go see Harry and Cho." Neville reminded her.

"Oh yeah sorry, baby brain." She explained to Draco.

"I understand. Hermione, little-miss-know-it-all, was so forgetful when she was pregnant." Draco said standing up and handing Isla over to Hannah.

"Oh she gorgeous! Is everything in there?" She asked, looking at the baby bag.

"Yup, milk, nappies, change of clothes, dummies, creams, blankets, teddy's everything." He shrugged.

"Ok brilliant." Hannah answered.

"Oh and Hermione or I might pop in at some point, to tell you how the Potters are and stuff."

"Ok thanks Malfoy." Neville replied.

"See you later." Draco said apparating away.

Draco walked down the corridors of the  hospital. He found the room the witch at the front desk had given him, he hesitated outside for a moment before going in. The sight he found inside was dreadful, it wasn't sobbing and crying and shouting, it was worse. Complete silence.

Cho was leaning on Harry's shoulder covered in sweat, silent tears ran down both their faces. Hermione curled up on a chair, acting strong but Draco knew she was on the verge of tears. Ron and Luna sat on a couch at the far end of the room. Mrs. Chang and Mrs. Weasley were both crying and comforting each other.

Hermione looked up and saw him, she tried to give him a weak smile but she couldn't even manage that. She stood up, Draco knew what she wanted. He walked over and sat on the chair in which she had been curled up. He stretched out and she sat on his lap. Her legs across his. She was sitting sideways, away from Cho and Harry. She leaned her head against his hard, muscled torso. He kissed her temple. It was going to be a long day.

That night, with little word from the healers, Draco owled Hannah asking if they were ok about keeping Isla for the night as, it would be too cruel to leave Harry and Cho. Hannah was ecstatic about keeping Isla, it turns out Isla had taken a liking to Hannah and Neville anyway.

Ron, Luna and both grandmothers left but not Draco and Hermione they stayed with them. It was the next morning when Harry and Cho got two surprise visitors, Andromeda and Teddy. Teddy was three now, many would have thought that Harry and Cho might not gave wanted to see any children but in fact it was quite the opposite, he was a distraction from their own little boy who was fighting for his life.

Draco knew quite well that Andromeda was his aunt but still he kept his head down, or preferably hidden behind Hermione's hair which didn't hide it nearly as much as it would have done if it had still been frizzy.

Draco who was starving himself  decided to get something to eat for everyone and went up to the café. Andromeda decided to go with him. For a little while it was just an awkward silence, but Andromeda couldn't take it anymore.

"Stop for a second." She exclaimed.

Draco stopped walking.

"Look at me." She ordered.

Draco hesitated but looked straight at his aunt for the first time, ever. He was shocked at the resemblance between her and his evil aunt Bellatrix.

Andromeda gasped.

Draco looked back down.

"No!" She said placing a gentle hand under his chin. "Look at me." She repeated softly.

He looked back up.

She smiled. "You look so much like her."

Draco felt the corners of his lips lifting up a bit. He knew what she saw. She saw Narcissa.

Draco and Andromeda went into the café ordered and sat down.

"I've wanted to meet you for so long." She said.

"Really?" Draco asked, surprised.

"Oh yes. Your mother, she was a good woman."

Draco raised his eyebrows at her.

"Operative word being was." She explained.

Draco laughed a bit. "I'm not going to lie, I've wanted to meet you for a while as well."

"I'm surprised you even know who I am." Andromeda admitted.

Draco bit his lip. "When I was little, Mum used to tell me stories, about you, her and aunt Bella growing up."

Andromeda grimaced at Bellatrix's name and then apologised. "Oh, I'm sorry. You were probably quite fond of her, we just never saw eye to eye."

"I hated her." Draco said casually.

"Good, me too." Andromeda giggled.

There was silence.

"Your wife, Hermione, she's a lovely girl." Andromeda smiled again.

Draco looked at his coffee and smiled. "Yeah, she's the best."

"Have you any children yet?" She asked.

Draco reached into his pocket where he kept a more recent photograph of Isla.

"Yes actually we have a baby girl, Isla."
He said smiling and showing her the photo.

Andromeda looked shocked. "Isla? As in Isla Malfoy the millennium baby?"

Draco's smile only broadened. "So you've heard of her."

"Oh my Merlin. I thought she was a child of one of your cousins! Your daughter is Isla Malfoy."

Draco chuckled. "Yeah, your grandniece."

Andromeda was grinning like an idiot. "So I have a grandniece as well as a grandson."

Draco nodded.

"Where is she?" Andromeda asked inquisitively.

"A couple of our friends are minding her,  I'll have to collect her soon." He said looking at his watch.  "Hermione and I will probably end up going home after we collect her, if you want to come and meet her?"

"I'd love to, but I don't want Teddy and I bothering you."  She confessed.

"Your no bother, honestly. Isla's probably not going to have any blood relative's outside of her immediate family, so she might as well meet her grandaunt and cousin." He said simply.

Andromeda smiled softly at him. "Thank you Draco."

In the following months after mending ties in his family, Draco was happy, just happy. He had a beautiful loving wife who he loved. He had his gorgeous baby girl, his angel. He had an aunt and cousin he was learning to love. His mates were happy, including the Potters. After many days in St. Mungo's and after many prayers said, James pulled through and got better, the little boy was now at home with his parents.

Draco was top of his class in Healer training. He was working extra hard just to make sure that it would be him delivering their next child. Isla was now five months old, he wanted another baby and soon! Especially since Lavender and Ron now had their second daughter, Megan Annabelle.

She had straight red hair and caramel coloured eyes. In a lot of ways she looked like Ginny, she was even feisty like her.

Fleur and Katie were both pregnant again, as were Angelina and Audrey. Draco started begging Hermione everyday for their second child, but Hermione just stated that she wanted a few more months of being normal before she got pregnant again, which Draco could understand. Pregnancy wasn't the best point in their relationship, Draco had to be careful about everything he said, Hermione was easily annoyed and was always tired and moody. He had to listen to her complaining about how fat she was, every single day, yet for some reason he'd go through it again for another Isla. Boy or girl he didn't mind as long as it was soon.
