Messengers From Heaven

Shizumi's POV

"So, you see? Since this is a wind hissatsu, your spins and your pass must follow it, not to kick it as if your intention was to add power, although the power will be increased because the wind will make the ball spin faster, thus making it more powerful and faster like a drill. So I suggest Kazemaru making a curve pass to Someoka, who must then somehow alter the axis so that it would not curve off target," Kidou finished. Kazemaru and Someoka were nodding vigorously, no doubt running over the movements in their head.

We had failed at all our earlier attempts, so Kidou was brought in to pick out what was wrong. Turns out I was right about most of it, like the follow through with the wind concept, but you gotta admit that Kidou's sense for soccer was stronger than mine. His suggestion for the curve pass was brilliant and improved our progress vastly, and who could have thought of the idea to change the axis so that it was in attack format right after the curve pass. It's like he knows exactly how the ball would spin, move, react, and recoil. Just like how he manipulates people when he "plays" with them I thought to myself and a bitter laugh escaped my lips.

"Okay, that's about right. Someoka, a little more to the right should do, and then it will only be your teamwork and timing that needs tweaking," Kidou said after watching us shoot it a couple of times, and pinpointing more ways for us to improve. At this rate we were going, we were bound to get it today or tomorrow, and then there will be more than enough time to perfect it! Whatever way Poseidon might have found to stop us from scoring doesn't matter anymore. Nothing could ruin this positive attitude that the team and especially me and Kidou have.

"Ready to try it? Endou needs practice buddies," Gouenji said as he strolled lazily to us. I have no idea why that potato isn't practising, but I'll let him off this once since he forgave me and partly because I'm so pumped up right now.

Me, Someoka, Kabeyama, and Kazemaru took our places, and so did Kidou, Gouenji, Ichinose, Max, Shourin, and Domon. We were to shoot consecutavely with a one second gap, just enough so that Endou has time to react. The order was our incomplete hissatsu, Ichinose's Spiral Shot, Gouenji's Fire Tornado, Max and Shourin's Twin Boost, then lastly Kidou and Domon's Twin Boost.

"All right, come at me!" Endou exclaimed, and as soon as those words rang out, all of us sprang into action. Suddenly, at that perfect moment when all five balls were zooming straight for Endou and right before he could even touch one, two figures lept in and intercepted the ball.

They moved so fast I didn't see nor realize what had happened until a few seconds later. Even with my eyes, I couldn't see it. Their speed was...inhuman. It made me shiver. And even though I didn't want to admit it, no, it was more like I couldn't admit it for admitting it would be sealing the answer, I was scared.

Everybody including me and Endou, gasped. The two figures had stopped the balls cleanly and completely, each catching one on each hand, and the one I didn't recognize, who somehow looked familiar though I had no idea how, caught the last ball on her leg, which was still spinning out right now. They both wore modern spins of toga like clothes, Zeus uniforms. My eyes narrowed.

Endou, unaware, ran foward to the two. "Wow! You two stopped that wave of hissatsu shoots without even a flinch! You're amazing goalkeepers!"

I was frozen in place and in silence as if hypnotized when Aphrodi answered. "No, were not goalkeepers," The blonde boy said with a small, half-amused smile, "My team's goalie would only need to lift a finger to stop these."

"That team of yours is Zeus Jr. High, isn't it?" Kidou said accusingly as he calmly walked over here. His words seemed to grant me the freedom to move and talk again. Leave it to Kidou to remain calm in a situation like this. "Aphrodi," I seethed, loud enough that everyone heard me. His mere appearance made my blood boil.

"Eh?" rang out through the other members of Raimon who were confused of the situation. But they faded into the background, as with everything else. The school, Gouenji, Kidou, Endou, and even the unknown Zeus member. In this world, it was just Aphrodi and me.

Aphrodi was the reason for all this. He and his team, they were the ones who ended soccer for Teikoku. Aphrodi, he was the one who pushed me to my limit so that I had to reminiscent Inoue Shizuro. This boy, he shamed me in public, threatened me, leaving no choice but to forfeit knowing that I would definitely do it for Genda's and all of Teikoku's sake. It was all thanks to Aphrodi that my life slipped back to its origin of nightmares, soccer.

"Aphrodi, we end this today," those words slipped out of my mouth and before I knew it, I was walking over to the goalie area. All eyes followed me, but it affected me none.

"My my, still as feisty as ever," Aphrodi gave a little laugh, and my steps quickened. "I never would have thought, the Death Bringer, with such a quick temper like yours? I'm disappointed you didn't meet my expectations, I always thought you would be the cruel silent killer type who has no compassion whatsoever. Did staying with these Raimon weaklings dampen you? Or was it...Teikoku?"

He was already putting a toe past the line by insulting my teammates, but insulting Teikoku was just too much. "Aphrodi!" I screamed enraged. My steps had became marching stomps. From the sidelines, Gouenji whispered under his breath, "Though he is right about that." I whipped around and glared at Gouenji. Before any harsh words could come out, I felt a restraining hand on my shoulder. Turning around, my eyes met Kidou's, his ruby orbs flashing no, a look of understanding on his face. But behind that, I felt anger in him too. Not at me, but a shared loathing and craving for revenge toward Zeus that connected us.

I took a deep breath and counted to three, then said, trying to keep the bursting rage out of my voice, "Let's have a match, me versus you, right here right now. We'll both kick at the ball at the same time with our hissatsu shoots, whoever loses is the first to give away."

From the sidelines, Gouenji, Kazemaru, and Someoka's eyes widened at my declaration. They all realized that I meant it was a kill or be killed duel, where whoever is strongest will injure the other's leg. And it was formulated perfectly too, because if I win then we had a much greater chance at beating Zeus, and if he wins, then Raimon pretty much only has a one percent chance of victory. So basically I was betting all on this.

But no, it wasn't a fifty fifty chance for me and Aphrodi either. That was the one thing that gave me confidence and some sort of faith in this dangerous bet, since I had already witnessed Aphrodi's shooting power and knew that it way surpassed mine. None of them, not even Gouenji, knew that the secret to Kuroi Hane Taifuu was to focus on one critical swing. That one jab of sudden force would break Aphrodi's leg before his could even do much lasting damage on mine.

But Aphrodi neither came forward nor accepted. Instead, he laughed that annoying, tinkling laugh of his again. "Oh no, it's not me that you will be fighting," he said airily, then stared straight at me, eyes vermillion to vermillion and sending a slight chill down my spine, "It'll be her." He jerked his chin toward the girl next to with silvery ice blue hair who had remained silent until now, the one who we had all forgotten was there.

"Hello, Death Bringer, you truly live up to your name," she said in a creepy sort of sweet voice, then lifted her amber eyes which burned with hatred, anger, and a fire for revenge, and smiled at me. That was when I finally realized why she looked so familiar.

"So, are you guys going to go at it or not?" Aphrodi asked, a small, amused smile playing at his lips. I stood there frozen in place, eyes still fixed on the female member of Zeus. Kidou, who looked like he hadn't recognized the girl yet, took that chance to step up. "Aphrodi, I'll play against you instead. But we'll bet instead of using a do or die method. Whoever loses must forfeit their team from the competition," he declared. Aphrodi merely flicked his hair. "Why would a god waste their attention on mere losers like you?" he taunted.

"Aphrodi! We promised that you'd stay out of my way!" the silver ice blue haired girl interrupted in an angry harsh tone. Aphrodi glanced at his teammate. "Well, I'll let you have your fun, but we really shouldn't waste our time on these peasants," he spat the last word as if it was unclean. "Oh, I'm sure our dear Death Bringer here deserves a one on one," the girl replied breezily with the same yandere smile as before, "After all, she was my murderer."

An eery silence followed that last sentence. Then all of a sudden, murmurs started going up around the crowd of Raimon soccer players. They all glanced at me warily and anxiously, almost as if they thought I was going to go charging at them with a knife intent on plunging it into their heart. I turned to Gouenji, and even he unawarely gulped and took a step backward. I then turned to Kidou. When he saw me look at him, his hand that had been gripping my shoulder immediately shot away, and he too took a small step back. All around me, people were scared of me. It was as if I was being plunged back to my old memories, back when I was the Death Bringer. Back when my very showing up and the mention of my name would scare everyone.

Without meaning to, I screamed.

The girl stared at me with distant eyes that were cold and unsympathetic. Finally, when I had no air left in me, I slumped down, although I was still in a standing position. I may be feeling like this, but I was still not going to bow down in front of Aphrodi, ever.

"Are you done yet?" she asked. It took me a moment to remember that we had a challenge going up. I took a deep breath. I was not going to be the one everyone thought was a monster anymore. I looked up, and with eyes of fire that matched hers, I answered, "Let's do it. But I want to ask one thing before we start." She looked a little annoyed that we weren't kicking the ball yet, but made a gesture of 'go on'. "Why do you keep insisting that I killed you? I didn't kill anybody as far as me and Onigawara-san is concerned, and I'm already pretty well known by the cops after being involved in three cases, and one which got the whole country riled up and searching."

My words only seemed to make her more angrier, making me believe that I had a less likely chance of persuading her now. "Remember the suicidal boy car crash? Can you recall the people that were recorded?" I thought back about what Detective Onigawara said, and replied absentmindedly, "A family of three killed, and one girl in a coma. So?"

Her sudden change in voice and emotion made everyone jump. "A family of three killed, and one girl in a coma, and all you say is 'so'?" she screeched, "I was the child of that family of three! the other two were my mother and father! And you frickin said 'so'? Not even a word of remorse? No regret? No sorry feelings toward them?" By the time she finished her rage, she was breathing heavily and her face was slightly red. My eyes don't lie, and I'm almost sure her hair started  to glow more ice blue as she got worked up. Aphrodi seemed to take notice of her almost morphing change too, and panicky flicker which was rarely seen on him found way into his eyes. "Calm down, Eris..." I heard him whisper softly to the girl, who, at the touch of his hand on her shoulder, seemed to return back to her original state a little. But not quite, for her eyes were still glowing murderously.

"If you died, then why are you standing here right now?" Kidou asked skeptically. She turned onto him, and in this ever so rare moment, I saw fear worming into Kidou's eyes despite him trying to keep it at bay. "This," she pulled down one sock, "Is what happened to me so that I could get my revenge." We all stared at her calf in horror. For instead of where a leg was supposed to be, it was all metal. "Yes, that's right. I'm not human anymore, I'm a cyborg. Believe me, that photosynthetic leg is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm a human turned god, and now is time for judgement day, Death Bringer. And let me tell you this, you're going to hell."

And with those words, she snapped her finger at the sky as if doing Heaven's Time, them kicked the ball up at good shooting distance and without warning, flew up there faster than my eyes could follow. At the snap of her fingers, it looked like the sky split open to reveal rays of light, and her in the air basking in it like a spotlight. The sun shone in my eye, and pure white wings sprouted from her silhouette. I couldn't help but squint at the light. But from this distance, she almost doesn't look human, but rather, like an actual holy being, an untouchable. Was this how victims of Chi Sakura Mai felt, frozen in fear and unable to move, only to watch as the horror came closer?

Well, it may feel similar, but at least I knew I wasn't facing my own move, which even I don't know how much damage it really does to to you mentally. For everybody else seemed as horrified as I was at this immense, inhuman power in front of our eyes, so it wasn't just an illusion.

She then raised her right mechanical leg up, ready to slam it down on the ball with her heel. I braced myself along with every other member of Raimon. What stopped me from almost closing my else was hearing Aphrodi's voice cut through the moment. "Stop," he said loudly toward his female teammate. There was warning laced into his voice even though it was level. Pausing, she slowly floated down, her wings dissolving into nothingness when her toes touched the ground. The soccer ball came down slowly with her too, as if they were being lowered from above by an invisible string. Her hair floating behind her, turned again from the original silver tinted slightly blue to a glowing ice blue during the move just like when she was "morphing" earlier, was fading back to its normal color.

When her wings were completely gone, she whipped her head around to Aphrodi. "Aphrodi you-." The angry girl was cut off by the said blonde. "If you injure her now, you won't be able to play her during the match." "I don't care!" she snapped, "All I want is her dea-" "Kageyama wouldn't want that," Aphrodi said, still in his calm voice. That seemed to do the trick. The girl's shoulder relaxed, and even though I could see that she didn't want to obey, she didn't argue with Aphrodi.

Aphrodi gave us a small nod, whether of apology of the "unrefined" act his friend put up or of polite farewell I did not know. "My name is Suishou Hakuchou, remember that at least, but on the field I am known as Eris. As in the Greek goddess of dissonance," the girl, who just introduced herself to us as Eris, stated, "Death Bringer, your soccer once destroyed me, and now I'll destroy you with mine."

Then in a blink of an eye they were gone, the field a hollow silence, no doubt leaving everyone thinking about her last proclamation.

"Your soccer once destroyed me, and now I'll destroy you with mine"

I want to make note that this story will not have any parts in Hakuchou/Eris's POV, because she will have her own book that tells the parts that overlap with LATM in her perspective.
