8// the dormitories

So while the little flirting was happening in class, I should tell you what's been happening in the dormitories.

As I said before, our dorm had two floors, and in each floor, there were two wings, or sides, that were meant for different people. Like for example, on the bottom floor, to the left when entering, were the seniors, anyone above the year ten. To the right was middle schoolers, so between years eights and nines.

Upstairs, to the right was juniors, so anyone from year five to seven. And on the left, the rest of the little mids -- even boys. All below the age of ten of course, but even after having three dorms for the boys, there was still no place to put them.

- Everywhere I go, no matter where, there are always more boys there, than there are girls.

So anyways, children were rarely seen in other wings except their own, but I was downstairs a majority of the time. Why wouldn't I be? That was where the fun was. I was always better at making friends with people who were older than me, but then again, the year eights were all my age. I just had to repeat a semester of year seven because the term started at a different time than in the Middle East and seeing as how I couldn't exactly finish my year before we left, I had to rejoin the seventh grade.

In a way, it was pretty great, because in a class with just four students, I was the smartest. Not something I got a lot in my old school so I decided to take what I got.

The girls in year eight were divided into two. The newbies and the oldies. I, was of course, friends with the newbies, although all that would change later, but again, I'm getting ahead of myself.

The newbies were fun. They didn't treat me like a kid just because I lived upstairs, and they all shared their tuck -- which is what we called snacks. We weren't allowed any but people snuck it in anyways, and every Sunday they had a little canteen where we could go buy whatever snacks we wanted as long as it was within our budget, and everyone had a same, fixed budget.

All in all, it was turning out that hostel life was pretty great.

Then I noticed that one of the seniors, spent a majority of her time in our wing, with the other eighth year oldies. It was nice at first, to see the seniors and middle schoolers mingling, but as I noticed her come in frequently, I had to wonder what had happened.

The next day, it turned out I would.
