Chapter 42
<Stiles' POV>
Later that night
Lydia sleeps peacefully next to me in the hospital bed. A few strawberry blonde tendrils of hair fall into her face over her closed green eyes. Even in her sleep she is careful not to hurt my already broken form. Everyone else left to go get the cars. They should be back soon. It's pitch black out and the moonlight shines through my window providing an eerie glow in the room.
I've been watching Lydia sleep for at least an hour now. She just looks so innocent when she is asleep. It's nice to look at. When her elbow moves in her sleep and hits my side I cringe for there is a bruise there from one of Marianna's goons bat. How ironic I got beat with a bat just like mine. I yelp loud enough for Lydia's eyes to shoot open. "I'm sorry Stiles! Did I hurt you?" She exclaims nervously. Her green eyes bearing into me. I squeeze my eyes shut and shake my head.
"I'm fine, I'm okay," I tell her. I hear her sigh in relief and relax once again. When I open my eyes she is still staring at me. "What?" I ask forcing a smile despite the dull ache that hasn't stopped radiating through me since I took that sword for Lydia at the recently bombed hotel. She frowns.
"I want to talk to you about something, but I don't know how to bring it up," she says. I become worried.
"If you're breaking up with me you couldn't of picked a worse time," I say. She shakes her head and bites her bottom lip.
"No it's nothing like that, it's something you did actually, well something you were going to do," she says. I look at her confused.
"And that would be?" I question her. Lydia lets out a long breath and pulls a small folded up piece of paper from in between her belt and her dress. I recognize it immediately and my whole body tenses. "Where did you get that," I say in a voice that is twenty octaves lower than my normal tone.
"From your room, it was on your desk," Lydia starts, "why didn't you ever say anything?" She asks. It all comes back. The depression that had literally strung my heart and mind to and emotional wall of regret. The constant wanting to slam my head against a wall or to throw myself out of my bedroom window.
"You couldn't even look at me, I didn't want to keep Scott from keeping Allison alive, and most of all I knew you would stop me if I did get the chance to tell you," I explain. Lydia shakes her head.
"I'm so sorry, sorry that I wasn't talking to you, and sorry that I didn't even notice how destroyed you felt," Lydia tells me. I look at her form. Not the slightest note of insecurity, but a vulnerable pale green eyed, red hair framed face.
"I'll forgive you if you tell me why you weren't talking to me, What did I do besides what you told me wasn't my fault?" I ask her. She closes her eyes as if recalling a memory. When she opens them a single tear falls down her cheek.
"It wasn't anything you did,
it's what someone said. The night Aiden supposedly died, his last words were directed to me, he told me to be with you and love you, the only problem with that was all my life people had told me what to do, like when I was with Jackson he always made the decisions. I wanted to make this one myself. So I took some distance to process everything and then let myself fall in love with you all over again," she says. I look at her surprised.
"Fall in love with me... again?" I ask. Lydia smiles delicately and a second tear slips down her face. She nods slightly.
"Again." I lean in and kiss her lightly on her soft lips.
"I love you Lydia," I whisper.
"I love you Stiles," she responds. I smile. After everything we have gone through finally Lydia Martin finally loves me.
"And I love hurting you, c'mere Stilinski." I look beyond Lydia and see Marianna standing in front of Malia and Scott. She walks over to me in a strut and starts to lash out at my face. I cover my face with my arms and begin to yell!
"STAY AWAY FROM ME!" I continuing screaming as she scratches me.
"Stiles!" I blink harshly and and then lower my arms from my face and see Lydia looking at me worried. I look around frantically for the Desert Wolf but find no trace of her. My breathing is labored and my body is tense. Lydia's hands grasp my cheeks and she points my head to hers. "Stiles shhh, it's okay you're here with me, you're with me, Lydia," she comforts me. I begin to cry again. Lydia looks at me sympathetically and I tuck my head under her chin.
"I'm loosing my mind all over again," I complain. Lydia shakes her head as she rubs my arm soothingly.
"Not if I can help it." I look up at her lovingly. When I'm about to relax once again and try to sleep I hear the door slam open and my heart beat jumps. We both turn our heads quickly to the door and see a frightened Cora. She runs over to us and pulls the sheets off the bed. Cool air rushes over my bandage and bruise clad skin. Lydia's eye widen in alert.
"Cora what's going on?" I ask frantically. She doesn't answer me at first. The poor girl looks as if she had just seen the most important person to her die slowly. Her eyes are dilated in fear as she looks around frantically to make sure we are alone. "Cora!" I yell at her again. She glares down at me and shushes me violently. I look at her in wonder and then share a confused glance with Lydia as she sits up.
"We went to get the cars and suddenly a bunch of people, werewolves I don't know, started to attack us. Scott told us all to come back here to see who get to you guys first. I ran first. We have to go outside and wait for someone to pick us up. Lydia help me get him," Cora explains. Lydia jumps out of bed and helps lift me up. I scream in pain when a cut is stretched. Tears prick at my eyes and both girls cast sympathetic looks. "Stiles you have to be quiet or else the doctors won't let you leave," Cora pleads disdainfully. I bite down hard on my lip which only makes my body hurt more because it is split and bruised. I nod my head noncommittally at the girls. They each throw one of my arms over their shoulders. Lydia's finger presses against a bruise. I gasp, but restrain myself from yelling. They begin to pull me out of the hospital down the hospital hallways and into an elevator. When the elevator doors close with a ding I fall to the ground. I scream in pain and curl into a ball. I just want to die. The pain should kill me, I wish it would. Lydia and Cora kneel by me and Lydia covers my mouth. I reach out and grasp her arm, my grip rough. Cora places her hands on my other arm and her veins begin to turn black. Some relief is given and the pain returns to a dull ache.
"Thank you," I mumble. She nods and when the elevator doors open the girls lift me up again. I groan and then we continue to make our way to the exit. Closer and closer we are almost able to grasp the door handle. Finally they push open the door and we walk out into the cool desert night air. I see headlights in the distance and hear far off yelling. The night wind blows through my hair that is matted dry against my forehead.
"We should be safe here until someone comes to pick us u-" before Cora can finish she is pulled back and thrown into a wall. Lydia screams Cora's name loudly as she desperately looks around for the attacker while helping me stand. Cora lifts her head from the ground and her temple is bleeding unhealthily. Next thing I know something pushes me out of Lydia's grasp. I hit the ground hard and scream in pain. A puff of sand rises up around me. Temporarily blinding be from what is going on. Before Lydia even has time to think about helping me, the person who knocked me and Cora to the ground makes a clear appearance in front of Lydia. Her chest rises and falls rapidly as I try to crawl my way back over to her. The large boy with glowing eyes points out his claws as a warning to Lydia. Showing her that if she moves he'll shred her into pieces of flesh and strawberry blonde curls.
"You wanna come with me the easy way or the hard way?" He asks through his long fangs.
"Take me!" I yell desperately trying to save Lydia's life. The boy looks at me with raised eyebrows.
"You wouldn't work," he says then his gaze returns to the girl I have loved for as long as I care to remember. "So as I was saying, you wanna come without getting hurt?" He asks a frightened Lydia. She balls up her fist until her knuckles are white. I want to tell her not to but I'm to late. She brings the fist to the werewolves face and it hits him hard in the jaw. He stumbles back and then regains his balance after only seconds. "You should of sized me up first sweetheart, I'm a lot bigger than you are," he snarls at Lydia. Her green eyes are wide, pupils dilated, focused on the boy approaching her with extracted claws. I scream Lydia's name. Cora tries desperately to get up, but her body isn't strong enough. This is it, I'm going to loose her.
"Hey! Pick on someone your own size asshole!" Someone yells from behind me. I recognize the feminine voice and turn around to see Allison with a bloody cheeks pointing her bow straight at the boys heart. Her eyes are concentrated and she knows where she is aiming. The boy turns to Allison, dressed head to toe in black and leather. She releases her arrow after adjusting her aim it hits the boy in the arm. He cringes and rips the arrow from his flesh. The wound heals almost instantly.
"You missed," he snarls. Allison cocks an eyebrow while holding her reloaded bow.
"That was a warning shot, next one goes through your eye," Allison threatens. The boy smirks.
"You know you might do better then the red head," the boy says.
"Try me," Allison offers her words coldly. The boy sprints towards Allison who drops her now and takes out a knife. It swings around her thin fingers and prepares for impact into the boys flesh. The boy sprints right into the blade but doesn't stop. He take Allison to the ground with him she fights back desperately. Lydia sprints from her spot and goes to help her best friend. She jumps on the boys back and uses her nails to try and rip him off of Allison. The werewolf elbows her in the gut throwing her back to the ground. I try to crawl to her and after seconds I make it.
"Lydia?" I whisper. When I look down at my gut I see blood gushing from an open wound. She moves her head to a new angle to see my stomach. Her eyes widen. I fall to my back and breathe rapidly. As Lydia places her hand over the source of the blood I watch Allison fighting off the boy. I want to tell Lydia to go help Allison, because I see that she is on the loosing side. Cora attempts to make it over to Allison but when she does the were wolf just kicks her back down. I try to mumble Allison's name so Lydia knows she needs help. "Al-son" I manage to mutter. Lydia gets the point and looks behind her to see Allison out of weapons and slung over the werewolves shoulder. Lydia screams and begins to sprints to her best friend. The boy starts running away with Allison and Lydia chases him. That's all I can see before I black out.
<Lydia's POV>
I'm not fast enough and I know it. The boy is supernaturally fast and I am only a banshee. I begin to loose hope until I see Scott driving Stiles' jeep towards me. He screams out of the window. "Jump in Lydia!" I run at an angle towards the car that is speeding towards Allison and the boy. I throw open the door and fling myself in.
"Stiles' wound is reopened and Cora is out of it," I inform him. Scott keeps his eyes concentrated on getting to Allison even after this information. I think we will get to her and save her when something pulls me into the back seat. I scream at the hands around me neck.
"Lydia!" I hear Scott yell. Someone else enters through the sun roof and starts attacking Scott. The baby blue jeep swerves around in the sand. I fly around as Scott tries to fight off his opponent. I manage to see that it is a person attacking me. Their skin is nearly white and their eyes are almost black. At first I have hope that since they appear to be human I can take them on. Then fangs sprout in their mouth. But their eyes don't turn to a brilliant gold or icy blue or searing red. They just get darker, almost completely black. Are you fucking kidding me? The book Twilight sucked but I can only imagine that a real vampire is going to suck even more, no pun intended.
"Scott!" I scream desperately. He manages to look back at me and sees what the situation is. Because he took his eyes off the road for only a few seconds the jeep finally swerves to much and starts to slip, interrupting the fangs from making impact into my neck. The car tumbles over and over. The sounds of glass shattering and grunting fills my ears. Finally the jeep starts rolling and just slides in the sand before coming to a complete stop. When I open my eyes I see the two people Scott and I were fighting are gone. But how?
"Lydia! Are you alright?" Scott asks me. I nod my head and nausea hits. Scott and I pull ourselves out of the destroyed car. Once I look around I realize something is missing. I see the hospital in the distance with Cora and Stiles. The rest of our cars and friends nearing the hospital. What else was I focused on before the jeep crashed. Allison!
"Scott! Where's Allison?" I ask frantically. Scott's eyes widen and he looks around frantically.
"Allison," he mumbles softly, "Allison!" He then shouts. A loud shrill comes from the distance. The two of us are off before we can even think. Scott races ahead of me due to his ability to run supernaturally fast but I don't slow down.
"Scott help!" I hear from the distance. Scott yells back to Allison as we run.
"I'm coming!" He tells her. Sweat drips off of my entire body. My heels are kicked off my feet and my dress and hair fly behind me. The strawberry blonde tendrils swirling like a twister through the rushing air. My green eyes focus on the miles or black sky and endless sand dunes ahead of me. I must get to her, I have to get to Allison.
In the distance I see swirling sand. Why is it moving so much? My brain tries to figure out any possible solution.
A helicopter, it would move around the sand. Scott and I approach the helicopter just as it begins to leave the ground. I see Allison's frightened face, her mouth covered in duct tape. "Allison!" I belt out. Scott manages to hold onto the bottom of the machinery as it begins to rise into the air. The boy holding Allison has a mask over his face. His boot clad feet stomp over Scott's white knuckled fingers. In a few moments Scott falls back to the ground next to me as I watch in horror. Before the helicopter is out of ear shot the boy yells over the noise of the machinery.
"See you back in Beacon Hills McCall!"
