~Chapter 3~
"Hurry up (Y/n)!" Hiro giggled, pulling the girl up the stairs. "I absolutely can't wait! Tadashi! She's here! Can we go now?!" Hiro practically begged. The older Hamada laughed.
"The robotics convention doesn't start for another hour." The two kids groaned in annoyance.
"Seriously?! I can't wait that long Dashi!" (Y/n) complained.
"It will all be worth the wait, I can assure you, in the meantime, why not try building a robot?" Tadashi suggested. Immediately, Hiro's eyes widened in delight, grasping (Y/n)'s hand once more and dragging the poor girl to the garage.
"We can finish the robot that will take over Dashi's school!" Hiro squealed. (Y/n) grinned at the idea. Quickly, the two of them sat on an office chair each and began to glide across the garage, typing in codes and passing things to each other from the computers.
Over the short time of meeting each other, Tadashi, (Y/n) and Hiro had transformed the garage into their own science lab, complete with a giant 3D printer that was at least two times bigger than (Y/n) herself. This is where they would always go to pass time or work on their awesome robot. "What are we going to name our sick robot?" Hiro asked. (Y/n) thought long and hard.
"How about the Tadashi Terminator? We are going to take after his school after all." She reasoned. Hiro grinned and nodded in agreement.
"Perfect!" They continued to move about the lab, sliding on the office chairs as they went, occasionally bumping into each other for fun. Eventually, the two had constructed the head of a robot, with one big red eye that would soon have the power to unleash laser beams. Footsteps could be heard as Tadashi appeared at the garage entrance.
"Come on guys! Let's go!" He grinned
"FINALLY!" The two screamed, leaping from their chairs and grabbing one of the older brother's hands each. They began to tug on his hands, forcing the boy to walk faster.
"I have some of the cake from yesterday here, you can eat it while we walk there." Tadashi offered, pulling out a plastic take away container and handing them each a half of the cake. (Y/n) and Hiro's eyes widened in excitement, devouring the treat so quickly that is was just a blur.
The three of them arrived at a bus stop, waiting a bit until their bus had arrived. Tadashi payed the affair for the trip as the younger Hamada and his friend found a seat. Tadashi soon joined them as they handed him back the plastic take away containers. He put them in a plastic bag as (Y/n) and Hiro looked out the bus window, watching the city go rushing by.
The bus trip was fairly short, a positive aspect for (Y/n) and Hiro who were literally bouncing with joy. As soon as the bus door opened, a chorus of "Thank! You!" could be heard. One by one, the Hamada brothers and (Y/n) rushed over to the crowded streets which had been blocked from cars just for the convention.
Tadashi found a nearby bin and disposed of the rubbish. He held both Hiro and (Y/n)'s hand tightly as they walked through the crowd, careful not to lose anyone. "It's so loud!" Hiro had to scream.
"I know right!?" (Y/n) yelled back, laughing a bit.
"Let's find an information booth!" Tadashi suggested, leading the way. All three of them struggled through the crowd, passing many booths and attractions that seemed to interest them even in the slightest way. Eventually, a bright neon colored tent with a giant "I" stood before them. "Here we are!" Tadashi exclaimed.
The small group of three hurried inside to find a small reception table. Behind it was a tall young woman with crazy mint green hair and purple contacts in her eyes. She smiled kindly and waved before greeting them. "Hello! I'm Naomi Nakada, how may I be of assistance?" She smiled.
"Hi! We are just a little lost... do you think you could help us?" Tadashi asked politely. Naomi laughed.
"That is my job, no? So, to answer your question, I'd love to help!"
"Great, what do you suggest we all go see?" He asked.
"Well.... There is a robotics history center... and a jumping castle and... OH! I know!" She suddenly exclaimed, causing Tadashi, (Y/n) and Hiro to jump in surprise. "How about the final bot fight of the convention!? That starts in 20 minutes and can be located near the entrance of the whole area, to your left." She beamed, handing Tadashi a map and circling the area.
"Bot fight you say? Aren't those illegal?"
"Oh yes, if not authorized by proper authorities. To be honest, I think people will want to join and do it illegally after watching which is quite a shame." She nodded.
"I see, well, thanks for the help, we will be sure to watch." Tadashi beamed, taking (Y/n) and Hiro's hand. Together, they walked out of the tent, heading back in the direction they came from.
"So we are gonna watch a bot fight?" Hiro asked.
"Yeah... just don't get any ideas." Tadashi hesitated. The boy could only hope that his younger brother wouldn't do anything rash after watching the bot fight. Doubt started to fill the older Hamada. Would Hiro really commit to illegal activity? "Maybe we shouldn't..." Tadashi stated.
"What!? Why!?" (Y/n) protested.
"I don't fancy either of you two becoming illegal bot fighters, it would be me who is to blame otherwise." Tadashi explained.
"We promise not to! We swear!" Hiro exclaimed. Tadashi only frowned.
"I'm not sure..."
"Come on Dashi!" (Y/n) pleaded. Tadashi sighed and gave in, would Hiro and (Y/n) really do something dangerous? They did run off yesterday... But he had trackers didn't he? He could simply keep tabs on his brother.
"Alright."
"YAY!" They screamed in sync, causing Tadashi to groan.
'What have I gotten myself into?!' he thought.
They followed the map to the desired location, jumping in surprise at the loud noises of the crowd. "WHAT'S GOING ON!?" Hiro yelled, covering his ears.
"WE ARE ALL WAITING FOR IT TO START!!!" A teenage girl stated. She had short hair with a couple of purple streaks. She wore a mid – cropped leather jacket on top of a white tee. She had black leggings with black trainers that had purple accents.
She was no taller than Tadashi, actually a head shorter than himself but just a bit taller than (Y/n) and Hiro. "The name's Ethel." Ethel grinned. Tadashi nodded and opened his mouth, about to speak when an announcer started to speak. "OH! It's starting! Catch ya guys later eh?" She called, sprinting off into the crowd.
Tadashi looked at her as her figure vanished and merged with others. In a crowd like this, it was easy to get lost. "Okay..." Tadashi said strangely. "Let's move to the front of the crowd huh?"
"Yeah!" Hiro squealed as (Y/n) grinned, grasping both of the younger Hamada's shoulders and shaking him violently. "Woah!"
"Okay that's enough you to, let's go!" The eldest exclaimed, guiding them through the tightly packed crowd. Eventually they made their way to the front, spotting two men and two robots sitting within a red circle.
"Hello! And welcome to this year's robotics convention!" An announcer exclaimed. "You folks will be the lucky last to see this special event for another four years!" At his words, the crowd cheered like crazy. "So hold onto your hats as this year's grand finalists compete! I present, the daring and undefeatable, YAMA!" More applause followed. Tadashi, Hiro and (Y/n) just clapped, eager to see the event. "And on the opposing team, we have one of the world known bot fighters, Abigail Callaghan!" At this, everyone gasped.
Abigail was the daughter of the three youngster's idol, Professor Callaghan. (Y/n) had loved her for her quick wits and clever yet deceiving robot designs, being the same age as Tadashi had its perks. However it was no surprise that this girl had become an intelligent star, it ran in her family.
"So! Who will win? Who will lose? Let's find out! Two bots enter, one bot leaves, fighters ready... FIGHT!" A fighting bell rang as each competitor's robot sprang to life. Each inching their way closer and closer towards each other and finally attacking. It was the quickest yet most exciting thing (Y/n) and Hiro had ever seen, ending within five minutes. It was a blur of blacks and greys as the robots battled to the death, creating a blur of color.
"The winner! By total annihilation, ABIGAIL!" The crowd erupted in cheers as Yama shook hands with Abigail.
"Good game sir." Abigail smiled.
"You to kid." He grumbled.
"That...was the BEST THING EVER!" (Y/n) yelled as Tadashi dragged the screaming children away.
"It was so fast! Like her bot just smashed the other guy's robot like PEW! PEW! PEW!" Hiro exclaimed, jumping up and down every time he said the word "PEW".
"YEAH! Like it was so fast and both the robots were so epic and-" (Y/n) was interrupted by Tadashi's phone ringing.
"Just a second guys." He said as he opened his cell phone. "It's Aunt Cass." He placed the phone against his right ear and spoke loud and clear. "Hello?"
"Tadashi?" Aunt Cass's voice called out, quietly and croakily, as if she had been crying for the past few minutes.
"Aunt Cass?! What's wrong?!" Tadashi asked bewildered.
"It's about... (Y/n), don't tell her yet, her parents will, they are leaving." It was as if the world crashed down on him. All those promises he promised to keep were gone, and how would both Hiro and (Y/n) feel when they found out the truth?
"O-okay... we- we'll be there in a few." He replied, stuttering so much that his words were barely translatable.
"Thank you honey see you in a bit." And with that, the call ended. Tadashi was paralyzed in shock. He would not, could not move. He didn't even blink. He could barely breathe. It was only when Hiro tugged at his shirt that the older Hamada snapped out of his shocked state.
"What's going on?" He asked.
"What?! Oh! (y/n)'s mum would like to see her so we have to um, go home now." Tadashi explained sadly.
"That's okay, we can hang tomorrow." (Y/n) pointed out, causing Tadashi to feel even worse. The bus ride home was a quiet one to, the only sounds coming from Hiro and (y/n) as they discussed the bot fight.
Tadashi almost cried. He just didn't know what to do. He had known the young girl for a long time and saying goodbye just seemed so unnatural, so impossible, it wasn't fair.
So it was pretty understandable when Hiro and (Y/n) collapsed in tears at the news. They didn't want to separate, not at all, not after all they had been through.
Tadashi knelt down just a little lower than the two, grasping both of their shoulders lightly. "Why does (Y/n) have to go?!" Hiro whined.
"Please don't make me go, you promised..." (Y/n) begged.
"Listen- guys," Tadashi sighed before continuing. "In life... we are all game pieces in a game... and... this game is called 'Life'. But, just like in every game, each player, (Y/n)... Hiro, and so on, will have a down turn... and although you hit a ditch or a dead end... the game of life isn't over. You still have another turn, and another chance... think of this situation as a down turn... now all you gotta do is wait... for your next turn."
Once Tadashi finished explaining his metaphor, Hiro frowned. "But in games... someone will win and someone will lose."
"That is true," Tadashi agreed, "But even if you lose, you can still win."
"How?!" (Y/n) interrupted, confused by the older Hamada's statement.
"Well, I was just getting to that, you see, when someone plays a game and comes last, they can take the result in two ways. One of them being grumpy and mad they lost and the other being happy they had fun with friends and family... in the game of life, this choice is purely up to you."
(Y/n) and Hiro's eyes widened in realizations. "Although this is sad, I know we will visit and call and text... as soon as I get a phone I'll ask Aunt Cass for your number." (Y/n) muttered.
"I guess this is good bye then?" Hiro mumbled.
"Yeah... I'll miss you guys." (Y/n) whispered.
"Bye..." Hiro hugged the girl, crying lightly into her hair.
"Bye (y/n)..." Tadashi muttered.
"Bye guys... see you." (Y/n) nodded her head, rushing up to Aunt Cass and giving her a last hug. After that, the small family of three could only wave the (L/n) family off as their car drove down the road.
The game of life was probably the toughest game there ever was, it had pleasant times but also the sickest twists. Currently life just played the cruelest game card ever and Tadashi had no choice but to except that. All the older hamada could do was wait and watch what Hiro or (Y/n)'s next move would be.
