~Chapter 1~
"Are we going to see the robotics convention in the city?!" the 5 year old boy hoped, jumping up and down with his best friend by his side. With each jump, his black, fluffy, tufts of hair bounced up and down. "Oh please Tadashi?!" He begged, staring up at the older boy with big, brown, doe eyes.
"Tomorrow, you have to be patient Hiro." His brother, Tadashi smiled. The small boy only frowned.
"Come on (Y/n)... let's play video games in my room." He huffed, pulling the (H/C) haired girl up the steps of the lucky cat café. Tadashi smiled and shook his head, fixing his black cap in the process. His kind, brown eyes following the two friends as they climbed the stairs.
Of course to anyone who has met Tadashi and Hiro Hamada, they could instantly see the brother relationship, Tadashi being the responsible older brother and Hiro being... well, the mischievous one.
They were the closest pair of siblings you could ever imagine, both living with their Aunt Cass above a café called 'The Lucky Cat Café'. It was a small and cosy type of place, perfect for hanging out with your friends after school. Above it was where the small Hamada family lived, containing another two floors for living quarters.
Aunt Cass was probably the most energetic person. As well as raising her two nephews, she owned the café downstairs, creating the most mouth-watering pastries (Y/n) had ever tasted. She had emerald green eyes and short brunet hair, reminding Hiro of Elasti – girl from 'The Incredibles' strangely enough.
One of the few people who got to hang out with the Hamadas was a young 4 year old girl by the name of (Y/n) (l/n). She had (H/l), (H/c) hair and (E/c) eyes that always reflected the curiosity she held within herself. Although she was the youngest out of Tadashi, Hiro and her, she showed strong signs of intelligence. Tadashi thought she was naturally a genius whereas Hiro thought that their smarts rubbed onto her. (Y/n) wasn't too sure about either of those theories.
But as predicted, she learned to love what the Hamada brothers loved. As the time went on, every encounter with them involved some crazy science scheme to take over the café or build incredible robots that could do what you would only dream. It was the same sort of thing every day that soon found a place in the little girl's heart to.
And boy were the two children upset when Tadashi brought the bad news. In a city like san Fransokyo with all its tall skyscrapers and neon coloured lights, the city was pretty high up in the charts of technology, but it was the special events in the heart of the city that energized the three of them so much.
Every 4 years, a robotics convention would occur. Inventors from around the world would come forth to show off the latest inventions and robots they had created. At the end of the day, a winner was elected by a panel of judges who would get to take the jackpot prize of $20000. The convention lasted only for three days which left tomorrow to be the final day.
Hiro and (Y/n) were so pumped up and ready to go that they nearly forgot to eat breakfast! Unfortunately for the two, Tadashi couldn't take them as he had to help Aunt Cass at the café. This left them both with lots of energy yet nothing to use it on.
Hiro sighed and turned on the TV, turning on his game console and handing (Y/n) a controller. "It's a shame Tadashi can't take us today... I was looking forward to it." She stated.
"Yeah! I was so excited to!... But my stinky brother just HAD to offer to help Aunt Cass with the café." Hiro huffed in annoyance.
"Hey! Don't be like that! Aunt Cass works very hard to make the best pastries!" (Y/n) argued.
"Yeah but why today!?" he groaned, flopping on his bed and playing around with his game controller's joy stick. (Y/n) looked at Hiro's position on his bed, the conclusion was obvious; he was bored. She stood up and turned the TV off, putting the game console away.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?!" Hiro argued.
"Well, by the look of your body position, you seem bored which means you have too much energy that you don't know what to do with." She explained.
"So what do you suggest we do?" He asked her, getting up from his bed and following her down the stairs once more, walking down to the café.
"Let's go exploring!" She whispered, weaving in and out through the other café customers, cautious not to get Tadashi and Aunt Cass's attention.
"Are you crazy!? We will get in trouble!" Hiro whispered in fear.
"Since when are you the protective one!?" She smirked, placing her hands on her hips knowing well that she had won. Hiro rolled his eyes.
"It's not that, I just don't want to get grounded from the robotics convention tomorrow... I've waited for 4 years and the next one isn't until I'm 9!"Hiro pointed out.
"Okay but there is still the convention when you turn 13 and another one when you are 17!" She reasoned.
"True but by then I'll be too old for it, building my very own robots and taking over Tadashi's school!" Hiro laughed to himself at the thought. (Y/n) rolled her eyes, sick of listening to the little Hamada's excuses. She grabbed his hand tightly and pulled him through the crowd, pushing open the light glass door and exiting.
"Let's go to our secret place if you don't want to go exploring then." She suggested, instantly catching Hiro's attention. The two giggled as they made their way to the old park across the street and walked through the bushes. They kept walking until they past a twisty tree landmark that contained a large stone house behind.
The stone slabs created a simple yet cosy cube like house where the two children climbed inside, the memory of building the small house was still fresh in the children's mind.
It was a nice day for going out. Tadashi had brought the two to the park for a while, thinking they needed fresh air for once instead of being cooped up inside. At first (Y/n) and Hiro refused, believing that their robot which would take over Tadashi's school was more important.
But all in all, they went to the park. But, being 3 and 4 year olds, the two best friends instantly became a challenge for poor Tadashi who was running left, right and center just to make sure they were safe. You could say Tadashi learnt his lesson for taking the two outside. (Y/n) and Hiro were just enjoying themselves, and you could say purposefully worrying the older Hamada.
The fun had ended as quickly as it started however when Hiro decided to play a game of hide and seek. The only problem with that was that (Y/n) and Tadashi soon lost him. It was quite some time but eventually, (Y/n) found him hiding behind slabs of rock that had been disposed from an old construction site, talk about safety.
With the help from Tadashi, they had moved the slabs away to let the little Hamada out, creating a pile of rock slabs in the process. After a bit of scolding from Tadashi, they reused the slabs to make a cubby house to play in, keeping it their secret from that day forth.
(Y/n) and Hiro arrived at their secret place, giggling at the fact that they had snuck out. Sure they would get in trouble but they would cross that bridge when they got there.
"It's a lot larger now that Tadashi isn't here." Hiro pointed out, looking around the brightly lit cubby. Over the years the three of them had brought objects over to their little hideout, most of these objects were toys and a small lamp.
The cubby was more of a cave with one of its walls being made out of stone completely, leaning against a giant boulder. No one had ever come upon the area, it was well hidden with bushes and trees.
"Well, Tadashi is bigger than us and would take most of the room." (Y/n) reasoned. Hiro only nodded in agreement.
"I wonder when Aunt Cass and Tadashi will notice our absence." He thought out allowed. Little did the two of them know, Aunt Cass and Tadashi HAD realised they were missing and they were worrying a lot.
Every second, Aunt Cass scoffed a doughnut down her throat, having closed the café early once Tadashi discovered them missing. Tadashi was running around the house, double checking every nook and cranny in case he missed something but he found nothing.
"I think they ran off outside! They aren't here!" Tadashi worried, grabbing his black cap and his aunt's hand, dragging her out the café door.
"They could get hurt!" she fretted, finishing her cinnamon scroll.
"That's why we need to find them! I KNEW I shouldn't have told them to go to our room!" Tadashi scolded.
"Where could they have gone? Not very far by foot and we both know Hiro hates walking for too long." The young woman responded. "If only we could track them down!" Tadashi's eyes widened at her words, realizing something important.
"That's it!" He exclaimed.
"What's it Tadashi?" Aunt Cass asked. Tadashi hastily opened his phone and opened a GPS app up.
"I installed a GPS tracker in all of Hiro's clothes since last month when he said he wanted to build robots to take over the school... I wanted to be sure he wasn't doing anything weird so I sewed tracking devices in!" he beamed at his genius idea.
"Well hurry up and find them!" Aunt Cass urged. Tadashi nodded and waited for the screen to load, shaking his head in disapproval.
"I should have known they would be there... they are at the park... you go back to the café, I'll bring them home." Tadashi sighed.
"Are you sure?" Aunt Cass asked, almost not certain if she should trust her eldest nephews.
"I'll be okay, promise. We will be back home before you eat all the pastries in the café." He smirked. Aunt Cass nodded and patted Tadashi's back.
"You're such a kind older brother, you know that Tadashi?" His aunt asked. Tadashi smiled proudly.
"It's my job, if I don't look out for them, who would?" and with his words, the two split ways. Tadashi sprinted as fast as he could to the park, diving through the bushes and walking as quietly as possible towards the hideout. Sure enough, the two children were inside, talking to each other.
"At least they are socializing... I remember when I struggled to get them to come out of the bedroom to eat!" the older brother thought to himself. Suddenly, an idea popped into his mind.
Slowly, he inched towards the entrance of the little cubby, trying his best not to make too much noise. And with a count down from ten, he jumped out and yelled loudly, scaring the two youngsters inside.
Each child screamed for their life, grasping each other as tightly as possible, fearing that if they let go, the 'monster' that came to attack them would hurt them. However, once Hiro and (Y/n) spotted the eldest Hamada, they recoiled from each other, glaring up angrily at the laughing boy.
"TADASHI!" they both yelled, arms crossed. This only made the boy laugh harder. "That wasn't funny!"
"Well that's what you get for running away." Tadashi pointed out, calming himself down. "Speaking of which, we need to get home, Aunt Cass might have eaten the entire food supply for the café!" (Y/n) giggled slightly at the thought of Aunt Cass committing such thing.
Tadashi stepped aside to let the two youngsters out, grabbing each one of their tiny hands and leading them towards the Hamada household. "Will Aunt Cass hate us?" Hiro asked, looking up at his brother with fearful eyes.
"I hope not..." (Y/n) mumbled. Tadashi watched as the two worried more and more.
"She might never forgive us..." Hiro said.
"She won't let us play together again..." (Y/n) continued. Hiro's doe brown eyes widened.
"But... if we can't see each other again... we can't go to the convention tomorrow!!!" Hiro gasped. Tadashi widened his eyes as the two started to cry. "Please don't make her do that Tadashi!" Hiro sobbed as (Y/n) wiped her nose with the hem of his shirt. Tadashi pulled his now snotty shirt away and stopped in his tracks. They were merely a block from the Café by now and it was getting quite late, almost time for (Y/n) to go home.
The boy bent down so that Hiro and (Y/n) were just a little taller than himself. He outstretched his arms as the two ran to hug him. "Shh... she won't do such a thing, I'll make sure you guys never separate, no matter what." He promised. The three of them separated as (Y/n) held out her small pinky finger.
"Pinky swear?" she asked. Tadashi stared at her little finger. As much as the boy wanted to keep his promise, he knew it would never last, somethings just happen... But alas, the boy wrapped his own pinky around the little girls, staring carefully into her (e/c) eyes. He could see his own reflection in them, he could see the lies he was hiding from the two.
"I pinky swear (n/n)." he whispered, almost inaudible.
