Mind Games
I've only been at this school for three weeks now, but I swear, it feels like I've been here for ages. Falling in with a crowd of friends was easier than I expected and I'm actually pretty happy here. I wouldn't let the rents' know that though, as long as they still think I'm unhappy, they will keep that steady stream of money flowing into my bank account.
This "sympathy" money my parents have been supplying me with has really come in handy. The kids from this school go out to eat for lunch nearly every single day to this little burger shop called Pa's and thanks to the sympathy fund, I've been able to tag along and buy Haven lunch too.
Haven.
That blonde haired blue eyed girl who smiled at me on my first day. I didn't think I would fall for anyone this fast, especially considering how pissed off I was when I first got here. I was dead set on being miserable so the rents' would see just how much they fucked up my life but damn, that girl makes it impossible. That smile of hers has a stronghold on my heart and it scares the shit out of me.
I watch her out of the corner of my eye as I try to stay focused on the task at hand - mini hockey stick battle. The guys, Brian, Chris and Jordan, are cool and all but I take every chance I can to be with Haven. Brian winds up and smashes the paper ball puck towards me just as Haven calls my name and I look up towards her, my eyes finding those hypnotic blue ones.
She flashes me a smile that sends my heart racing in my chest, "Walk with me to Pa's?" her voice echos off the dented blue lockers that line the walls. The mini hockey stick falls from my hand before I make a conscious decision to drop it, and I am up off my knees and walking towards her.
"Thanks Nik." She chimes with a smile that causes her eyes to crinkle at the edges.
"Can't let you walk alone now can I?" I grin chivalrously and she gives me a playful shrug. Of course, I have to take the opportunity to touch her, so I place my hands on the smooth skin of her arm and shove back pathetically. She looks at me with fake shock and then shoves me a little harder right into a locker. We laugh and she ruffles my shaggy blonde hair, I really need to get this mop cut.
That thought is completely forced from my mind when I feel her hand slide into mine, our fingers intertwining. My stomach drops and my face burns red, I hate to admit it but I don't have much experience with girls, at my last school I was always just seen as "the friend". A jolt of confidence rushes through me when we pass Haven's ex-boyfriend that everyone says she is still hung up on and she barely seems to notice him.
