Mind Games
"You know he likes you right?" Becca questions me as we watch the guys play with mini hockey sticks and a rolled up paper ball in the middle of the hallway. My eyes flash to the 'he' I know she is referring to. I was right when I thought that he would fall in with our group of friends. By his second day at school he was already walking to Pa's and eating lunch with us.
I know that Nik likes me. It's not hard to tell with a boy like him. He is a watcher, I can always feel his eyes on me and I love the attention. Even though I am still hung up on my ex boyfriend Taylor, I am happy to have Nik as a distraction.
"I know he does." I smile up at my friend and she shakes her head at me. "What?" I snap.
"Your always saying how your so in love with Taylor..."
"I like Nik." I clarify "He's totally cute and he likes to buy me lunch. That doesn't mean that I don't still like Taylor." I stand up from the bench and lean against the lockers to have a better view of Nik. He really is cute, with his hair always falling in his face and those lips spreading into a wide smile when he looks at me. There is a lot of things I like about Nik, but I think what I like the most, is that he likes me.
"Hey Nik!" I call over to him causing a distraction and he lets the makeshift hockey puck go flying past him, "Walk with me to Pa's?" I give him my best smile and he drops his stick immediately.
As we walk down the hall together we shove each other playfully and I ruffle his shaggy blonde hair. When we round the corner and I see Taylor heading our way with a group of his friends, I slide my hand into Nik's and act as if I don't see Taylor at all. Our intertwined fingers make Nik's cheeks go pink but his brown eyes are glowing with excitement.
