One

Light stares up at the ceiling in the dark. It's been almost a year since Kira – Taro Kagami – was killed, and things have been so amazing since. L is taking cases, going through one after the other like they're nothing; Light supposes it used to be like this for him before the Kira case. Sometimes he calls Light in to help, even when he doesn't necessarily need the assistance. Light knows this, and he doesn't mind.

Currently Light is in bed alone; L is still up working late as usual. They're still in England – London, to be precise. Light hasn't been back to Japan since they'd left, but he still talks to his family on the phone often, which is nice. He misses them but knows that he can always visit (because it's not like L doesn't have money or anything. He would happily take care of Light and give him anything he wanted).

Light still talks to Misa, too, actually. Frequently. She's a great friend, and he knows he can count on her. In fact, he just spoke with her this morning about something quite important that he needed help with.

Speaking of the something important – Light reaches into the nightstand drawer and pulls out a small, velvet box. Opening it, there's – you guessed it – a ring inside. It's a simple silver band with a onyx stone. Light thinks it will suit L very much, but he just... isn't sure when exactly to pop the question, and he's a bit unsure if L will even say yes. He doesn't seem like the type to want to get married to anybody, but the detective is full of surprises, as Light has surely found out by now. So he has to try, at least.

That's what Light was talking to Misa about. She'd helped him pick out the ring and Light was thankful, really. He misses her, a little bit, but she's off in America with Matsuda now, living her brand new life without the Death Note and everything, and he's happy for her, truly. According to L, Matt and Mello are looking after her to make sure she's okay. Light's glad for that, because, while he never really loved Misa, he did care so much for her and she was there for him when he needed her. She brought L back to him, too, and okay, yes, she was the second Kira, but it's understandable why she felt like she had to be. In her eyes, she owed Kira her life for what he did for her. Light knows that. And, once again, she's a great friend. Light is happy to have her back in his life.

At the sound of footsteps, Light quickly tucks the ring away, back where it should be so that L doesn't see it. The now 26 year old detective pads in, bare feet shuffling across wooden floors. His thumb is pressed to his lips and he stops in the doorway, staring at the 20 year old with a curious, owl-like gaze.

"What are you doing awake, Light-kun?" he asks, and Light shrugs his shoulders. L tilts his head to the side. "You couldn't sleep, then?"

"Just missed you," Light half-fibs, because it's not really a lie but it isn't the full truth. If L knows he's lying (and of course he does. When doesn't he now?) he doesn't call him out on it. Instead he simply comes closer, slipping out of his jeans and shirt before climbing up into bed beside Light and settling under the blankets, curled up against Light's chest.

Light kisses the top of his head, the wild hair tickling his nose, but he doesn't mind. And it's nice.

"Solved the case?" Light asks. L nods wordlessly, exhaling a breath into his lover's neck. "I'm guessing Watari went to bed, then?"

That's another thing – Watari is still around because L doesn't want to be without him. Light doesn't mind that either (it's cute). Watari, thankfully, stays out of their business and mostly keeps to himself, occupying a room downstairs. He cooks for them, cleans, assists L and presents him with cases, all of that; so of course Light doesn't mind that he's there. Watari was there with L first, anyway.

Rem is still around, too, due to the Death Note belonging to Light now after Misa had died. Rem is sort of tethered to wherever Light is, and has expressed wanting to go see Misa again, but Light really doesn't feel like traveling right now. Perhaps soon, if he and L get engaged. Or perhaps they could arrange something for Misa to come and visit. Thankfully though, Rem tries not to hang around them too much. It's fine. Add that to the list of things Light doesn't mind because things are really great right now and he can't be bothered to actually care.

"He did, yes," L answers about Watari, lifting his head to look at Light's face. Light wonders what he's thinking, but doesn't get to ask – L kisses him on the mouth. At first he's gentle, but then he's not. He pushes Light onto his back, swinging a leg over his lap to straddle him, and they're back to kissing, and Light loses himself in it, allowing L to kiss his throat and chest and his scarred wrist and anywhere else he wants to. And things are fine– no, great. Things are wonderful and spectacular and god, Light just can't wait to propose to this man. He can only hope it'll go well, when the time comes.

Ryuk knows that he probably shouldn't do this after all, considering what happened to the last Kira and everything. But it was what he was told to do in case anything happened and Taro ended up dead. And like, okay – he waited a year, but things have been pretty fucking boring lately, so why not? Maybe he should spice things up, yeah?

Definitely.

So, taking the new Death Note he's acquired, he flies off.

it do be short but we got a first chapter !!!!!!!!!!!! woooo c:
