"You're my hero" I wheezed as all went black.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My eyes shot open, I was in a familiar room. I took long and steady breaths through my oxygen tubes. I closed my eyes trying to recap what had just happened.
It was pitch black outside and everything was quiet. I glanced around the room, gasping at my surroundings. I lay in Ness's bed in her untouched bedroom. It was all the same, down to the point. I remember as if it were yesterday that I entered this bedroom to awaken Nessa to go and film a collab with Ryan Higa.
Why was I in Nessa's room? Then I remembered Mason shouting 'Wrong Room!' He must have set me down in Nessa's room by an accident, I wouldn't blame him, he's never set foot in this house before.
Just then my mom entered the room, she had a worried yet sad look spread across her face, "You alright honey?" She asked concerned.
"Yeah I'm fine" I whispered, "Did the funeral end as planned?" I asked hopefully.
"Yes, Nessa had a beautiful send off, I'm sure she went in peace" My mom answered as tears welled in her eyes.
"Mom?"
"Yes Veronica"
"When you buried Nessa...the first time... Did you bury her body or an empty casket?" I asked, scared of what answer I would receive.
"We buried her... I'm not certain what happened or how any of this is even possible. Apparently your sister died twice meaning she had two bodies which is impossible" My mom cried.
"Trust me anything is possible" I whispered.
"On this subject, I received a phone call from the police station and they wanted to sincerely apologize on behalf of the crazy policewoman and they offered to investigate Nessa's case for free if we didn't sue them, if you ask me that woman should go down for what she did to you, you could have died in there!"
"But I didn't, I don't think she should be punished, but if the cops are willing to look into Nessa's case tell them NO!" I replied, my voice raging with anger. The cops would probably grow too confused and create some sort of twisted believable lie to end the case, causing my family to be haunted by more press.
"We'll see" Mom trailed.
"No Mommy! That means that you will agree, not under any circumstances are you to allow the police to investigate Nessa's death!" I shouted, growing frustrated.
"Why Veronica?! You saw Vanessa being struck by lightning and die! But I was by her side when she died in the hospital almost four years ago!" Mom argued, tears now spilling from her eyes.
"That's exactly what I mean! The cops and investigators create terrible cover stories for things they can't solve!" I yelled.
"Ok then how did your sister die!? Did she just randomly touch a plug socket in the middle of a field or was she changing a lightbulb, because nothing else could possibly fit" She cried.
"You wouldn't understand" I answered,
"You're right I don't understand! When you and Vanessa were born a strange man told me I only had 20 years and then one of you would have to die! That stuck in my head until the day of Nessa's death, How did that man know!?" She asked, her voice filling with confusion.
"You wouldn't understand" I repeated once more, she gave me a stern look, as if she were too disappointed to carry on with our conversation. She got up and left, leaving me in Nessa's room alone.
"Maybe it's a better that you investigate" I heard a familiar faint whisper.
"Nessa?" I asked, glancing around the room with hope. There was nothing. Maybe it was all just my imagination.
I yanked the oxygen tubes off my face and threw them too the floor, I was tired and irritated, the last thing I needed right now was something uncomfortable bugging me.
I glanced at the side desk, there lay my phone, next to it was a crippled broken iPhone 6. I turned it on, it was Nessa's! I used my thumb to unlock the phone, I'm surprised it had survived the crash. Everything was on it, from pictures to social media to music. I felt tears sting my eyes but I was reluctant to cry.
I opened up messages, the last person she had contacted was someone under the letter J.
I opened the texts, feeling bad for the invasion of privacy. My mouth gaped open by what the texts had read.
J: You have twenty minutes!
Me: Please let me have more time?!
J: We stick with the deal!
Me: Just promise me Veronica won't get hurt.
J: You know I can't do that.
Me: Please I'll do anything!
J: Is everything set up?
Me: Yeah...
What did this mean? I glanced back at the texts. They were sent... on the 2nd of August... The day of the car crash!
