Rachel tapped her fingers on the steering wheel. She was sitting in traffic trying to get home from the office, but with the rain pouring outside and the hundreds of other people trying to get home, she wasn't going anywhere. She sighed and fell against the seat, it had been stressful enough today and this was just making it worse. She turned the car radio to full volume and made her way home.

She threw her keys down on the kitchen counter and looked at the clock on the microwave. 6:35, it read. She walked over to the fridge and pulled out some Chinese food from last night.

As she was waiting for the microwave to beep to signal that her food was done, she looked down at the ring on her finger. It was the one thing connecting her to society, it was the thing that made her Rachel.

When her food was almost done, she heard the front door opening and her boyfriend walking in. She smiled at the blonde boy as he came over to give her a kiss on the forehead. He too wore the ring protecting his identity.

"Hello Garfield", she said, looking up into his eyes, "How was work?"

"The usual", he replied, opening the microwave and eating some of her food.

Their lives were nothing but normal these days, and that's how they wanted it. Or at least how they thought they wanted it. The two of them used to be members of the best superhero team in the country, but things had long since changed.

With their identities protected, they could live like everyone else, and nobody would know who they were and what they left behind. And neither of them ever wanted to look back and remember what made them leave.
