Chapter 1
A/N: Hi guys! So this story has been in the works for over a year now, and I am pleased to finally share it with you! Thank you to -lannah for the inspiration and the support for a continuation of their story "Detention". Here we go!
Lydia POV
"Lydia! Time for school!" Luke yelled from upstairs.
I groaned, climbing out of my nice, warm bed while fighting the urge to just roll over and go back to sleep.
After getting cleaned up and dressed, I stumble downstairs for breakfast.
"Dad, have you seen my tie?" I asked, setting my messenger bag by the table.
"You left it in the living room, Lydi-bug" he replies, using my nickname from when I was little.
"Thanks Dad!" I respond, grabbing my tie off of the coffee table.
When I returned, my plate of scrambled eggs and toast was ready. I ate quickly, brushed my teeth, then gave my dad a hug before heading to school in my car.
~At School~
I was walking across Sydney College, the local college where I live. It's public, but very competitive. My dad went here, and he said he met my mom here.
Out of nowhere, a man bumps into me. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to bump into you." he said, stabilizing both of us.
"It's no problem..." I said, hinting for him to give his name.
"Professor Irwin. I teach-" he says before I cut him off.
"Intro to Literature. I remember now. I was in your class last semester. I'm Lydia, Lydia-" I state, being cut off by him.
"Oh right! Lydia Hemmings. I never got to ask...any relation to Luke Hemmings?" he asked.
I froze for a second. 'What should I say?' I thought.
Then I remembered what my dad told me" if anyone asks if we were related, tell them he was my uncle.
"He's my uncle." I said, smiling.
I saw the look of...was it sadness? "I should be going. I've got a class to teach in ten minutes." he said.
We said goodbye, and he headed off to class.
~A Few Weeks Later~
"Lydia, we've got a couple of people coming over today" dad says as we eat breakfast.
"Ok, what time?" I ask, curious.
"After 5 pm. One of them teaches, and their last class ends around then." he replies.
I head off to school, picking up my friends Layla and Casey.
"Can we hang out tonight? It's been a while since we last did a movie night." Casey asks, riding shotgun.
"I've got soccer practice" says Layla, fixing her hair.
"I'm out too, I've got guests coming over." I add, parking at school.
~Later~
I had a project meeting after class, so I got home around 10 after 5. I see a unfamiliar car in a parking spot outside of our house. I park in my usual spot, then head inside. When I step through the door, I hear voices in the kitchen.
I head to my room first to put my stuff down and get fixed up before walking back to the family room. I hear the voices getting louder, and when I turn the corner I see my dad and 3 other guys sitting on the couches. One of the guys seem familiar, and I finally recognize who it was.
"Professor Irwin? What are you doing here?" I ask, seeing my former Literature teacher sitting next to my dad.
"Ah Lydia, its good to see you again." he responds, smiling.
"Lydia, you may want to sit down hun. We- we need to talk." my dad says, sharing a look with Professor Irwin and the other two men.
"Ok..." I say, sitting in my comfy chair. "What's up?"
"It's a long story, hun. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." he states, sighing.
He then goes into a story about when he was in high school. He says that he was in a relationship with two other students...and one of his teachers. They all split up before graduation, and everyone went they're separate ways.
"When I started college, I had a lot going against me. I found out right before the fall term started that I was pregnant. It wasn't common, but it was possible due to a genetic thing I inherited from my mom. By the second half of that college year, I had to start taking online classes because I couldn't travel to school. I finished the rest of my education online while raising my baby...you, Lydia" he pauses for a minute, letting me ponder what he had said.
"Ok but why are... um sorry I don't know your names" I say, looking at the other guys.
"Since you know me as "Professor Irwin", I probably should start. My name is actually Ashton Irwin, and I used to teach at your father's high school." Professor Ir- I mean Ashton says.
The other two boys introduce themselves as former classmates, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood.
"So how do all of you fit into this?" I ask, then realization hits me. "Wait...you were the other three in that relationship." I say, seeing them all nod.
"I wasn't sure how to tell you, and I figured now was a good time since the boys contacted me again and wanted to meet up" my da-my "mom" states calmly.
I stand up from my chair. "I can't believe you hid this from me! I had a right to know, dad!" I storm out before he can say anything else.
