Fourteen
I'm pretty sure if I have to hear another thing Chloe doesn't like about me, I'm going to walk out right now.
Mason took me to the library to meet up with his friend, Chloe, and she is more than I expected. She is the classic 'pretty girl' you'd find on the internet, wavy brown hair with highlights, fake nails, ripped pants, and name brand - well - everything. When I first seen her I thought she'd be cool, a decent person to be around.
I can't believe a person could be so wrong.
Every five seconds, she points out something wrong with me or tries to push me away. Even better, when I'm near her she makes my head hurt, and she is always leaving to put water in her contacts. Which, might I add, I find strange. Once, when she was gone, I looked up how often you should put them in with contacts. It said 10 or so hours without them.
Strange.
But Mason seems to follow her like a lost puppy. Everywhere she goes for books to research in, Mason follows. I find it annoying, I came here to research the Mind Benders (That's one thing I learned, their real name.) not watch these to flirt.
Letting my fingers graze the books on the shelf, I decide I'll look on my own. I'm better off like this then reminding those two to start looking over and over.
"Aria, was it?" Chloe snaps me out of my thoughts, and I reply with a nod. "We're leaving now, start packing up. We decided it's useless to look here, we haven't found anything. So... c'mon."
"Not that you looked." I say under my breath, Chloe's posture stiffens, and I keep looking through the books, ignoring the fact that they want to leave.
She sighs and flips her hair over her shoulder. "Listen, I don't care what you think. We need to go or my plan-" Biting her lip, she backs up a little.
"Plan?" What plan could she have? It's not like she needs to earn her way to Mason, they could become a couple right now and I wouldn't be surprised.
Chloe rubs her eye "I mean- ugh these damn contacts!" When she removes her hand, I let out a small gasp and stumble back a few steps. "What?"
When she rubbed her eye, her contact stuck to her hand, removing it when she took her hand away. Now I stand face to face with one blue eye... and one teal eye. "You've been throwing us off guard." I say, shaking my head. "That's why we haven't found anything. You're a Mind Bender!" I turn around to run, not waiting for her to respond.
Mason must've seen too, because he is already at the door, holding it open and gesturing me to hurry.
When I'm about a foot away from the door, something lifts me into the air. I look down to see Chloe's hand is controlling me, and she laughs. "It's not that easy to get away, Kaylee!" Mason stops running towards us, his eyebrows furrowed. She wouldn't tell him, would she? "Oh! Poor Mason, he thinks his sweet old Kaylee is dead!" She chuckles and spits out some blood.
His breathing quickens, "She is! I- I- seen her body... you can't fool me, I know your tricks!" He sounds hurt, trying to block out what - for some reason - he might believe.
I bit my lip as I get pushed up against the wall - air being my enemy. The pressure is too strong for me to move, Chloe is to strong.
"Oh Mason!" She says, wiping even more blood from her mouth. "Of course you seen her body! But did you know Kaylee is Aria? Hm?" She grins, tilting her head to one side.
While she is distracted, I look around for someone, anyone, to help. My eyes fail me, they've all ran out, terrified.
"What? No, Aria is Aria. What are you talking about?" His voice sounds upset and angry at the same time, and even from 3 feet away I can see he is teared up.
Chloe pushes me harder against the wall, and a let out a groan. If she doesn't stop putting pressure on me I'm going to burst through the wall.
This hurts.
My feet dangle a few inches off the ground, but I notice I'm slowly rising. 3 inches.... 4 inches.... 5 inches... Is she going to raise me to the roof?
Chloe looks like she is having the time of her life when she speaks. "Aria, why don't you tell him? Wait- no. I want to!"
Mason still hasn't moved a muscle, he just stands there, jaw clenched, waiting for an explanation. He takes a deep breath and Chloe continues. "Aria is dead, and Kaylee took her spot. Kaylee is living in Aria's body, and we've slowly been removing her memories of her past life! Soon she wont even remember that she is Kaylee."
When she finishes, Mason looks at me. Tearing up I nod my head as much as I can with this pressure, and he looks at her with pure anger.
I feel my head hit the roof, but she doesn't stop raising me. My head is pushing up against the wood so hard, I can't stop the scream slipping from my lips.
I can't see anything down below, my head is wedged between two support beams, but I hear a scream come from Chloe and sirens.
Mason must've hit her or something because I get pushed to the side, smashing my face off one of the beams. "Ow! Be careful how you hurt her!"
I get pushed back again, hitting the back of my head this time. I feel sick and lightheaded, and it suddenly becomes hard to hear.
"Aria!" I feel wind hit me, but other than that I can't tell what's going on. They must have gotten Chloe handled, because when I hit the floor I black out.
