"Woo!" My friend, Parker yells. We're in the middle of the parking lot doing donuts. "What time is it, A?" His voice slurred. He shouldn't be driving, but the rest of them are having fun, so I don't say anything.
Looking down at my phone, I yell over the cheers of my friends. "6:00! We better get going."
Lily, my best friend, yells. "Wait! Stop the car!" Parker hits on the break, and the car goes up on two wheels for a second. I grip on the dashboard as Lilly goes out and vomits.
"Maybe if Lilly would slow down on those drinks," Mark's thumb motions to the pack of alcohol "Maybe she would be okay." His brother, Luke, laughs his weird laugh, making Mark laugh even harder.
They are all too drunk.
When Lilly finishes, we begin to head home. We partied too hard at the freshman party. Way too hard. But we're teenagers and we needed a break. They needed a break
Parker asks for another drink, and I bite my lip. "You sure? Maybe I should drive. You're a little drunk."
"Just give me the damn drink!" His words are more than slurred, and I reach back and get one.
At the red light, he goes to open it. With a fizz, it pops open. He must be dizzy because he drops it to his feet. "Damnit my carpeting!"
Mark, being smart for the first time tonight, says, "Well pick it up, you idiot! We're at a red light."
"We'll tell you if it goes green!" Lilly adds, and she sounds like she is going to throw up again.
He bends over, not noticing that his foot hits on the gas. When he sits up, he looks at me and says "I got the-" And then the sixteen wheeler hits us.
I hear the big truck hit its brakes, but we don't stop. We flip over, and I count.
One flip.
Two flips.
Three flips.
Then we go over the hill. I look over to Parker's hand, and I grab it out of fear. But when I look up at his face, ice enters my blood. He hit his head off the side of the car, and his eyes stare lifelessly back at me.
The car continues down the hill, and I let out a sob. I let my grip tighten on Parker's hand. It's still warm. Oh, god. I'm scared.
I hear a window behind me break, and Mark yells out of pain.
We are going to die.
We are going to die.
We are going to die.
It's like we are moving in slow motion. This hill feels like it will never end. I look back over at Parker, and I see his eyes are looking out the cracked windshield.
At least they aren't looking at me anymore.
My window busts, letting a branch in. It smacks me in the chest. God, I feel pain worse than I even thought was possible, and I let out a yell.
I.
Can't.
Breathe.
