CHAPTER 36: SYRENA
"Sister."
Syrena was very happy when she saw her return safely, she gave a shout and ran to her side. Devan led her into the house, helped her sit on a nearby chair, and knelt beside her, his eyes tenderly watching her. She rubbed her sister's hand, she realized something, asked:
"Eh! What's wrong with your leg?"
Then he looked at her with eyes as bright as marbles, eyes as if waiting for an answer. She replied, honestly:
"Unfortunately I got hurt in the woods."
"Are you in a lot of pain?"
The girl asked again. She remained silent, thinking of an answer that would reassure her, since she was only two years old after all, she was too young to be able to deal with such things.
She looked at her sister and replied firmly:
"No, I'm not hurt at all. Don't worry."
But she didn't know, just now when she and he returned, Syrena woke up and saw the whole thing. She saw how Devan held her, saw how serious her wound was and how she struggled to get up but then almost fell down, fortunately he caught it. The two-year-old girl saw and understood it all. Whoever said that a two-year-old kid doesn't understand, is a misconception.
Syrena looked directly into her sister's eyes, she said in a steady voice.
"You lied."
The three adults now looked at each other, Syrena continued:
"You lied, I don't believe it."
"No, you don't..."
"YOU LIE. EVERYONE LIE. I HATE YOU. I HATE EVERYONE."
Then got up and ran away, tears rolling down her small face, leaving the three adults downstairs looking at each other in bewilderment, Collins sighed and said:
"It's human nature, no one likes to be deceived."
She looked at the two brothers, sadly replied:
"I know, I just want her to rest assured, don't worry too much."
She sighed. I thought she was just a two-year-old girl who only knew how to play and live a carefree life without having to worry or worry about anything. But to think that the child would understand this to such a degree.
