CHAPTER 35: ERRATIC HEARTBEAT
Sabrina ran at her full speed, she kept running forward, running through the tall trees, leaves rustling overhead. There was a sound of running after her, very quickly, she was afraid not to look back, kept moving forward.
Then she tripped on a nearby broken branch and fell to the ground. She tried to stand up with her hands but failed, it seemed that the wound was too deep, she was in so much pain that she could not stand up. The sound of chasing after her became more and more audible, oh my goodness, it was about to catch her.
As the sound got closer and closer, she closed her eyes, not daring to face it, that face still haunts her. Her body trembled, the fishy smell became more and more obvious.
The stench hit her nose, making it hard for her to breathe. Then a warm embrace hugged her tightly, the faint scent of mint made her heart skip a beat, that person was determined to hug her and not let go, she mustered up the courage to slowly open her eyes, take a peek. That perfect face was looking ahead, his eyes as blue as the Atlantic Ocean shining with determination and majesty.
He didn't say anything, only cold eyes looked ahead and his arms were still wrapped around her, for a moment she suddenly saw that he was exactly like the knight in her grandmother's story.
Knight Jack and Princess Moon. A beautiful love story, but it comes with a sad and painful ending. They love each other but are not happy in this life, have to end it and open a new life with the hope of being reunited. She heard footsteps running away, the fishy smell from earlier had also disappeared at any time, he now helped her up, still holding her small body, as if he didn't want anything dangerous to harmed her.
The girl he had secretly loved for years. She stood up with difficulty, two people standing in the middle of the vast murky forest, after a while he said:
"Can you be able to walk?"
"Yes. A little pain but I believed I can."
She replied, he frowned slightly. Then he helped her walk, looking for a beautiful little wooden house, but after only a few steps she collapsed, unable to walk anymore. The wound seemed to hurt more with each step, he knelt beside her, his voice soft:
"I know you hurt. It hurts, I know that."
She lowered her head, her wavy black hair falling down, obscuring her face. Seeing that there was nothing more to say, she nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. Devan suddenly raised her hands to pick her up, gently as if holding a kitten, she looked up from her messy hair and found herself lying in the arms of a person of the opposite sex. She felt her whole body heat up and she heard her heart beat each "thump...thump...thump" clearly heard.
Devan carried her out of the forest, he seems to know the way here very well, right? She was in his arms, the wound just now didn't hurt anymore, did she lose her emotions and become emotionless?
She was silent, not daring to say anything, not daring to look at that perfect face, into those captivating blue eyes. Is she a burden to you? She wondered, holding her for so long, are his arms tired?
They finally came out of the dark forest, the moment they saw the warm yellow light and the beautiful little wooden house, he and she breathed a sigh of relief. They had escaped from that place, she was afraid that they would never get out.
[...]
Collins was standing in front of the house, a worried look in his eyes. He kept fidgeting, unable to rest assured, Syrena was lucky to be carried back safely by him and was dozing on a nearby armchair, occasionally turning over. Tonight is a full moon, the full moon is emitting a faint silver light above. When Collins saw him and her return, he was very happy, he ran out like a hurricane.
"God, thank goodness you're both fine. I was afraid something would happen to you two."
Then when he saw Devan holding her in his arms, he asked without hesitation:
"What is this?"
"Sabrina is hurt."
Devan replied curtly. The other strong arm was still holding her, not willing to put down, only then did she say softly:
"Um.. I'm home now. I think you... don't need to hold me anymore."
Her words were strangely hesitant, he looked at her, his eyes disapproving but then he let out a small sigh and reluctantly set her down. Her feet finally touched the ground, down the green grass, the burning pain just now found her again, she staggered and almost fell backwards. Devan's quick reaction at the time was unbelievable. He quickly picked her up and held her in his arms, the scent of mint again faint. The girl's heart skipped a beat.
"It's okay for me to not carry you, he said, "but I will help you get into the house."
