Chapter 4
Nia was given a gorgeous dress, even for her and her expensive standards. She was in awe of its beauty.
It was tight-fitted until her waist, where it billowed out. The top half of the skirt was white expensive silk that faded into golden feathers that shimmered with each step. The bodice had hand stitched designs threatened with what looked like strands of real gold. Her back would be bare except for the golden shear that created the allusion of her skin sparkling. And sleeves were long and made of golden shimmering lace.
Nia then looked to her accessories which were as equally as breathtaking. Her heels were glass with gold soles and detailing that swirled and wrapped up over her ankles. There were two pieces of paper一one that had instructions for her makeup and the other for her hair. Her makeup would be a simple brown black fading into gold highlights with eyeliner and mascara. The paper detailing how to do her hair described a simple elegant but messy bun that wore a golden tiara. On her fingers would be golden, claw-link nail armor that would actually draw blood is used right. And lastly, for her mask, she wore a mask with a diamond border around her eyes and on her forehead. From the diamond hung strands of gold that abducted the view of her mouth and rest of her face. The strands of gold looked like drips of melting gold.
She was a golden angel and she embraced it.
Nia told herself that she wouldn't listen to the stupid instructions previous to seeing her outfit, but now Nia complied with the rules because she knows how beautiful she will look as the golden angel of this competition. So she picked up the pieces of paper and started.
It took a while, but eventually, she was able to pull the look together. The weird nails, jewelry, mask, dress, heels, and makeup. Nia felt heavy, but looked beautiful. For the first time, she didn't feel like a warrior, which is incredibly ironic knowing her situation.
Nia needed to get to know her opponents. Their weaknesses and strengths are secrets of which she always found easily obtainable. Such secrets can lead to their easy defeat which made her wonder why they were so easily obtainable. And that in itself is a secret too.
Shaking her head, Nia pushed open my door and made her way to the gym. No one was in the halls walking so it made her think that she was late, but the time was correct. Nia quickened her pace and entered the gym.
"Ranked number one is our angel here!" Scott Davis announced. Both men and women alike turn to face her. Nia smiled with the satisfaction of knowing that they were all obviously jealous that they didn't get a beautiful outfit like she had. "The reason she is ranked number one is because she is a world renowned assassin, but I assume I don't have to go in depth about all of her history. I think her reputation speaks for herself."
A girl dressed in a blue themed dress beckoned Nia to step towards her and the group of people behind her. The dress was a beautiful blue designed with a petal-like train. Her hair was curled and parted to the left, but detailed in her hair were blue butterflies starting from the tip of her head all the way down. She even had a butterfly on her ear cuff.
She was the Sophia girl that Nia already wanted in her alliance. My dear, I have already written you into my plan.
Nodding sharply, Nia joined her with eleven other people. "These are the top fifteen! They have now been identified, so you should be thanking me!" Scott exclaims. Nia started to survey the "top thirteen" people. It's no shock to her that she is number one, it would be, however, if she wasn't number one.
"So we're all in the same boat here, aren't we?" a guy chuckles awkwardly. He looked like he's built strong and he's charming and good looking-two amazingly good assets to have in Nia's opinion. "I'm Philip by the way. I was ranked ninth for those of you who were ranked above me."
"Yeah, so I've got an idea," a guy with thick block glasses declares confidently with a smug look. "So, basically we were all called out. Everyone knows who we are and knows that they have to take us down by any means necessary. We can't trust them. The most logical thing to do in this circumstance is to all team up together. How about it?"
The rest of the guys shrug and the girls grin with either boredom or amusement. "We should meet together after this ball, take off our masks, and officially introduce ourselves," a guy with chocolate brown hair which matched his chocolate like voice: calming and smooth.
"Okay, see you guys then. I'll be making some small talk with others in the meantime." A girl dressed in billowy white silk dress with flower detailing walked off.
"See you after," Nia mumbled as she turned on her heels to join the rest of the non-"elites".
"Now, wait just a second, Miss. Number one," someone says as they grab her wrist.
