29. the fruit of our sin

A mistake?

No.

A risk?

Yes.

A risk for sure.

He knew exactly what he was getting into. But Wooyoung was like a drug to him. He had one taste and kept going back for more.

Unable to stop himself from craving the younger at every second. He knew that it was crazy. And insane. That once they were caught it was over.

Even just the very thought of whatever they seemed to have blooming between them being over caused him to shiver. And not the good kind.

He didn't know how to say it. But.. he had undeniable feelings for Wooyoung. Something a lot deeper than your surface level 'friends with benefits' type relationship. Romantic feelings.

The simple thought of Wooyoung reciprocating these feelings would make his heart sing with joy. Though the younger seemed to be very resilient in letting anyone near the cage to his locked up heart.

Then there's that fear of their parents finding out that their children had been engaged in such.. things together. Behind their backs. It would tear them apart. Ruin whatever happiness his father had managed to find after so long.

No. San wouldn't let them find out. He couldn't.

Shit...

San felt his heart beat rapidly as his mind began thinking of a million things to come up with. Something. Anything that'll get them out of that situation.

Wooyoung looks back at his mom with eyes as wide. He swallows, his saliva felt like glass shards as it went down his throat.

"Someone had better start fucking talking" Wooyoung could see the anger in her eyes. It was a look he was oh so familiar with.

"Mom, we-" San starts, hoping that by referring to her with that word she wouldn't be as upset. Didn't work.

"Don't. Call me that" She was pissed. "You.. you manipulated and seduced my son into this.." She struggles to find the words. "This incestuous act"

"W-what? No! He didn't manipulate me into anything mom" Wooyoung was quick to jump to his defense. Stepping forward and in front of San, like a shield.

"Do not defend him Wooyoung. He's older and therefore should know better"

"Why are you acting like I'm a child. We're the same age" Wooyoung says firmly. Eyes strong and unyielding.

"You are a child! And you're brothers for crying out loud!" She yells out, her eyes wide at the fact that her son was defending their actions.

"Step brothers" He corrects. His voice shakes a little.

She just laughs in dismay. "I see now that you're just as much to blame for this. Oh God.. h-how long has this even been going on?" She felt as though she would throw up.

San didn't say anything. He couldn't. His voice was completely lost and he was frozen from shock. Fear.

"Not long. A week maybe" Wooyoung lies.

She looks from her son to San and back again. "We'll wait until your father gets back from work then we'll decide what course of action to take" She announces her final verdict.

San's heart sinks deeper. "N-no please. He can't find out"

"Don't fucking speak to me" She practically growls at San, causing said male to flinch back. She shifts her cold eyes to Wooyoung's, a look of disappointment etched on his mother's youthful looking face.

Then she walks back into the hall, to her room they guessed.

San felt tears prick at his eyes and he releases a shaky breath. His legs felt weak and he leans on the wall then sinks to the floor. No..

Once Wooyoung hears his mother's door swing shut he springs into action. Turning to San with a look so wild yet sure. "Let's go. We can run" He says quickly, dropping to his knees in front of San's seated body. San looks up at him, tears in eyes and bottom lip caught between his teeth.

"To where?"

"I have a friend. She'll let us stay with her until we figure something out. We can move to another city or even province-"

"Are you hearing yourself right now?" San cuts the boy off. "We just graduated highschool. We can't survive out there on our own. We don't even have jobs and neither of us can drive"

"I don't care" Wooyoung whisper shouts. "I just-"

San places a hand on the side of Wooyoung's face, stopping him from speaking. "It'll be ok Woo. We'll just wait for my dad and... deal with whatever punishment they come up with" He forces a small smile even though Wooyoung could so clearly see the fear in his eyes.

Wooyoung simply nods, not having the voice to actually say anything.

Bzz. Bzzzz. Bzz.

Hongjoong groans as he stirs awake from the sound of his phone vibrating underneath his pillow. He winces as the bright sunlight that came streaming through his pulled back curtains and lighting up his messy room.

He sluggishly pulls out the phone from underneath his pillow. His eyes immediately widens and whatever remnants of sleep completely vanishes from his eyes. He immediately sits up and stares at Seonghwa's caller ID not sure why the older was calling so early.. or if he should even pick up the call.

After the previous night he vowed to keep a distance from Seonghwa. Though he was ok with them being friends but that would be the extent of their relationship. It was unfortunate. Just when Hongjoong was starting to really like him. Maybe even developing a small crush...

Eventually the phone stops ringing. He sits in silence for another couple seconds. When he sees that Seonghwa wasn't gonna try calling again he releases a long sigh and falls back on his bed, bouncing a little on the soft mattress. His faded red hair scattered on his white cotton pillow.

He shuts his eyes in attempt to fall back asleep when his phone buzzes in his hand. He lifts the device to his face and saw that it was a text from a certain dark haired male. His fingers even didn't hesitate to open up the text.

---

Seonghwa

Seonghwa:
Morning! ☺
Hey
I tried calling. You must still be asleep?
I was wondering if you maybe wanna
do something today?
Your call this time
No more parties

---

Hongjoong bit his bottom lip. He could tell Seonghwa was really trying but.. he couldn't let himself get too close especially after finding out the kind of person he is. He knew the older must be up to something. Why else would someone as attractive as him be interested in someone as plain as me..? it makes no sense.

But he couldn't help it. He caved the second a photo of Seonghwa came. He felt a wide smile spread on his face and he had to toss his phone to the side and place both hands on his warm cheeks. "Seriously?" Hongjoong groans at how easy he was.

---

Seonghwa:

Pleeeaassee 🥺

Hongjoong:
Morning !
Lol sure we can hang out

Seonghwa:
Yay! Great so uh
Where do you wanna go?
Or we could just hang out at your place
Or my place
Up to you

Hongjoong:
Well there's this book fair today at 2
I was gonna go but
didn't wanna go alone
And my friend hates
these kinds of things

Seonghwa:
Sure
Yeah I'll could go with you ☺

Hongjoong:
Really? You don't find it boring?

Seonghwa:
Wdym? I love reading
Really enjoy Hwang Sokyong's work
Read Familiar Things like a billion times

---

Hongjoong felt his eyes nearly fall out of their sockets. He knows who Hwang Sokyong is? Hongjoong loves that writer. He even had a couple of his books currently sitting on his shelf.

An extremely handsome, single guy my age that actually... enjoys reading? He didn't think Seonghwa could get any more perfect.

---

Hongjoong:
Wait omg
I love that book too!
Omg wait 👁👁

Seonghwa:
Lmao
Surprised?

Hongjoong:
A little 😂
I didn't know you were into reading
Why didn't you tell me?

Seonghwa:
Why didn't you ask?

Hongjoong:
Smh
Whatever 😳

Seonghwa:
😂
I'll pick you up at 1:30 then?

Hongjoong:
Ok! See you

Seonghwa:
See you💕

Hongjoong:
💗

---

Hongjoong turns off his phone, a giant smile on his face. Then he turns and stuffs his face into his pillow and releases a muffled scream.

"Stop making all that noise Hongjoong!" He hears his mom yell out to him through the door.

"Sorry" He quickly apologizes out then waits till her footsteps fade down the hall. He lays on his side and brings his phone to his chest. A lovestruck smile slowly growing on his lips once again.

I'll still keep my guard up but... maybe I'll let loose.. just this once.
