9. brothers

Suffice to say, for the rest of the day things weren't all that much better in the awkward department. Wooyoung was just glad that they were now at least exchanging small smiles whenever their gazes met instead of trying hard to ignore each other.

He'd also been effectively ignoring texts and calls from Matthew all day. He knew he promised to call the man often but that was less of a heartfelt promise and more of a 'let me just say whatever he wants to hear so he doesn't get angry'.

He knew he'd be in for it when he returned to Seoul but for now, the peace of mind was nice and he planned on enjoying it while it lasted.

Wooyoung absentmindedly helped himself to some complimentary coffee at the resort lobby. It was free for all guests so he figured why not. As he reaches for some coffee creamer a hand on his hip from behind causes him to jump, knocking the bottle over.

"Ah shit" He mutters as he instinctively snatches it back up stopping the entire bottle of the vanilla flavoured creamer from spilling all over the counter. "Yah- what the heck. You startled me" Wooyoung says to the perpetrator of the entire mishap.

San just grins to himself as he reaches for a napkin to help Wooyoung wipe up the small mess. He was stood slightly behind Wooyoung but his other hand remained loosely on Wooyoung's hip.

Wooyoung could feel San's body heat on his back and side. The warmth of his fingers through his sweatpants and against his hip was like electric and nearly sent shivers down his spine.

"W-what are you doing here?" Wooyoung awkwardly shimmies away from San's body and dangerous touch, putting a bit of space between them.

"Talking to you" San replies in a playful manner as he dumps out the dirty paper towel he'd used to clean up the spilled creamer with. He leans on the counter afterwards and just watches as Wooyoung continues creating his perfect cup of coffee. "Isn't it a bit too late for coffee?" He questions.

Wooyoung's gaze darts from what he's doing to San's dark watchful eyes. He had that same look in his eyes again, and has he always been this... coy? That cheeky smirk and somewhat seductive look in his eyes... it's hard to miss.

He's so damn hot, fuck. This is all so unfair.

"It's only 7pm, and it's never too late for coffee" He mutters a response, shifting his gaze away and prays to God that San couldn't tell his cheeks were flushed.

"Really now? How will you fall sleep after chugging several cups of coffee and so close to bedtime?"

Wooyoung snorts with laughter. "This is my first and only cup today" He says as he stirs the cup with a stir stick before he tosses it in the garbage and brings the paper cup to his lips.

"Still" San watches as Wooyoung's pink wet lips presses against the cup when he takes a sip of the hot beverage. It took all of him not to begin imagining those lips around his-

"So what are you doing tonight? The evening weather's quite nice" Wooyoung asks as he turns fully to him but still held his cup up and close to his chest. His skin prickles with goosebumps when San stood straight and also fully turns him but standing at a critically close distance. There was barely space between them and every cell in Wooyoung was screaming at him to step back, put up some distance again. They were still in a public setting, and if things go south all it takes is for their dad to walk out of those elevators for shit to hit the fan.

All that aside, he'd be lying if he said he wasn't considering the possibility of kissing San right then and there. He wouldn't do something so stupid, but due to his very explicit fantasies he'd never wanted to do anything more so bad.

"I don't know. Was just gonna chill. Maybe call up some friends, go to the beach" San doesn't break eye contact. His eyes were searching, shifting every so slightly but they remained firm on Wooyoung. It made the shorter nervous.

Wooyoung's eyes dart to San's lips when he spoke for a fraction of a second but it was more than enough for San to notice, his gaze too falls on Wooyoung's lips. Wooyoung awkwardly brings his cup to his mouth as he leans back on the counter and sips whilst looking out at the sky through the large window panes. He notices how dark it was outside.

"Isn't it a bit too late for the beach?" He says with his own coy smile as he took another sip and San scoff's playfully. Touché.

"In this town, the best time to go to the beach is at night. Trust me. There's no kids around so it's nice and chill. We can drink and smoke without having to worry about annoyed parents. It's honestly kinda fun, you should come... whenever you're done with that" San points to the cup Wooyoung was now setting down on the counter with an amused expression on his face.

Wooyoung smiled to himself. "It sounds fun. I'm down. It'll give me chance to meet your friends" He picks up the cup once again after grabbing a lid for his cup then he makes his way towards the elevators but not before he throws San a grin from over his shoulder.

"Well I better tell them to be on their best behaviour" He replies with as much watonness as he follows after him, eyes lingering on his ass. His legs and hips. He bit back a grin as they both entire the opened elevator.

"We'll just be gone a couple hours. Plus it's just the beach" San whines to his dad who looked to be getting ready to visit the resort jacuzzi on the first floor.

"Who goes to the beach at night?" His dad retorts with a raised brow after he tosses a towel over his shoulder.

San just snorts as though trying to hold back a laugh. "It's funny, Wooyoung said the exact same thing"

"Maybe we're on to something then?"

"Or you're both wrong. We're going, better than staying cooped up inside for the whole summer" San folds his arms and was already headed towards the door.

"Yeah yeah. Not like I can physically restrain you guys anyways. Just don't do anything stupid... like get more meaningless tattoos. They make you look irresponsible..." His dad begins a lecture but San groans out loud and ducks behind the door before given the chance to go on a rant.

By the time he walks out of his room with an intention of going and knocking on Wooyoung's door he receives a text from said male.

He fishes for his phone in the backpack he brought with him after hearing the loud ding. 'I'm downstairs 😺' the text read and as silly as it was San couldn't help but smile to himself solely because that was the first thing Wooyoung had texted him in months. It was such an insignificant fact but still managed to bring a small smile to him face.

Upon arriving downstairs he spots Wooyoung sitting in one of grey love seats in the lobby. He was swiping at his phone with a bored expression on. He hadn't noticed San yet so San happily took that opportunity to finally take in Wooyoung's appearance.

Ever since their flight landed yesterday he hadn't actually gotten a good look at him. His thick natural coloured dark hair was relatively the same length as it was over a year ago. Maybe a little longer? He had his cheek propped up in his palm and his elbow digging into the arm rest of the love seat. His full lips were slightly pouted and a jelly healthy pink. The small nose stud on the right side of his face accentuated his already beautiful nose.

As he walked closer Wooyoung eventually shifts his gaze up and San swore his heart jumped a little when Wooyoung's eyes met his. He flashes a boyish smile at Wooyoung. "Heyy, you ready?"

His enthusiasm earns him a genuine smile from Wooyoung in response. "What took you so long? What's with the backpack?" He asks as he pulls himself to his feet.

"We need alcohol don't we?" San responds with a raised brow like it was the most obvious thing. "We gotta stop by a liquor store on our way. The guys said they'll meet us there"

Wooyoung only nods in understanding. "Alrighty, lead the way then" He ushers towards the door and San just chuckles as he walks towards the exit while fishing in his trackpants pockets for his keys

The car ride was mostly quiet besides San's playlist playing through the car speakers and filling up the empty space between them. Something Wooyoung was grateful for. He couldn't imagine sitting in complete silence and trying not to breathe too hard.

"What have you been up to anyways?" San speaks first after a prolonged quiet. He turns down the volume to background music levels so they didn't have to shout over it.

He glances at Wooyoung momentarily before returning his gaze to the road. "Like with life and... stuff"

Wooyoung just shrugs. "Not much to say really. I just work most days"

"Oh. Where do you work?" San presses further, genuine intrigue on his face when he glances at Wooyoung again.

Wooyoung grins a little. "Bar. I'm a server"

A similar grin also forms on San's lips. "I probably could've guessed that"

Wooyoung just amusedly scoffs at that. "What's wrong with working in a bar?" His voice was raised a pitch, as if showing that he's offended.

San laughs whilst shaking his head. "I didn't say there was anything wrong. Just that if you had asked me to guess, a bar server probably would've been in my top 3 guesses"

Wooyoung looks at him with loose smile, one that brightens his face. San was annoyed at the fact that he was driving and couldn't turn to stare at him for a prolonged period of time. Instead he glances back and forth between the road and Wooyoung.

"And why do you say that?" Wooyoung continues.

"Do you really have to ask?" San glances at him again with an expression that said, 'c'mon now'.

"You're ridiculous" Wooyoung mutters in a playful manner and rolls his eyes. San just laughs a little as he turns again to look at Wooyoung. "Eyes on the road. Wanna get us killed?" Wooyoung gestures forward even though he really just wanted San to stop looking at him with those alluring eyes of his.

"My bad, officer" San responds sarcastically.

"What about you? What have you been up to? Besides school I mean" Wooyoung continues after a brief music filled silence settles between the two.

"Hmm" Clubbing. Parties. Sex. Drinking. San mentally ran through all his activities outside of school and he bit his inner cheek as he thought about how he was gonna answer Wooyoung's question. "I've been working out a lot?" He says it like a question.

Wooyoung side eyes his body but tries not to gawk. His right hand was resting on the top of the steering wheel which gave Wooyoung an easy view of his toned arms built with taut muscles which flexed each time he made a turn on the road.

"I can tell" Was all Wooyoung says. He had a playful smile on his lips as his peeks a look at San who just glances at him with a raised brow and a grin on his own lips.

"What's funny?"

"Nothing.." Wooyoung says with cheeky smile and with a voice so lewd San was almost certain it felt flirtatious. Or maybe he was just imagining it?

San decides to let it go. Instead he brings the conversation back to what they had started earlier that day in the morning in Wooyoung's room. Because he needed to be 100% certain with where they stood. He didn't want to keep interpreting every smile or tease from Wooyoung as something flirty when there's a possibility that it isn't supposed to be. "So.. this morning"

Wooyoung tenses a little in his seat. "Mm?"

"I know we confirmed that we didn't have feelings for each other anymore" San starts knowing fully well that he lied when he said that he didn't feel anything for Wooyoung. "But I feel like it's one thing to have feelings for someone and another thing to... be attracted to.. them" Each word that was said felt heavy and weighed on his tongue as it left his mouth.

"Ok?" Wooyoung looks at him with an expectant gaze even though he knew exactly what he was getting at.

"So... I just want to make sure there's isn't any.. attraction between us" San keeps his eyes forward, no longer glancing at Wooyoung every other second. It felt like he was holding his breath as he waited for Wooyoung's response.

It was quiet for a moment.

"I'm not attracted to you Choi San, you don't need to worry. Let's not make things weird anymore ok? We're just two step brothers on vacation with their dad. That's it" Wooyoung finally says in a teasing tone. It was a lie so violent it almost made him recoil right after it left his mouth.

San just chuckles meekly. "Ok. That's good. You're right"

"So... are we good? Everything that happened over a year ago is water under the bridge right?" Wooyoung confirms.

"What happened over a year ago?" San acts clueless as a way of being comedic about the situation.

Wooyoung laughs lightly. "Huh, now that you mention it, what did happen?" He plays along. This elicits a chuckle out of San as well.

They both laugh but their laughter was a means of shielding both their aching hearts longing for each other.
