Chapter 1

A small town, barely even bigger than a village pulls up into view of the carriage. Inside of this carriage is one person. A woman that is not quite an adult. She long brown hair and amber eyes, both obscured by a cloak of forest green. The woman looks back at all of her possessions inside of the carriage and sighs a breath of relief. She finally made it. The one place that she can stay without fear of being hated or hunted just because of who she is.

She turns her head back to the town to get a better look. There seem to be walls of stone and a gate of wood surrounding the place, but with a discerning eye and a little help with magic, one can see that it is just an illusion. A mirage meant to keep unwanted intruders out while hiding the true danger. What is surrounding the town is not a wall of stone, but a wall of thorns. Specifically, silverpoint. A plant that can kill you within ten minutes if ingested or made its way into the bloodstream.

The woman looks at all of this and disregards it. A small protection for the people here, but it can do nothing to her. She drives the wagon to the open gateway and stops at the guard station. Inside is a strong young man who looks her carriage up and down.

"Name." He states more than asks

"Glynn" The woman responds back in a quiet tone.

The man writes that down while continuing his questions. "Occupation"

"None currently. Formerly a scribe and cartographer for a minor merchant company"

The man raises an eye but keeps questioning. "Age.

"Seventy-five"

This time he stops writing and looks at the woman. "You look much younger than most would at that age. This is not an official question, but might I ask what race you are?"

The woman, Glynn looks distantly and pauses before she responds with just one word. "Elf"

Seeing how the woman acts, the man looks sheepish. "Okay, next question. Do you have any previous criminal record."

This time Glynn looks down, with a slightly quiet but still steady voice, she responds, "None of my own volition."

"Did your company do money laundering or sold illegal goods and threatened you if you left?"

"Something like that." She responds with her head still down.

"Alright. Because of your criminal record, we might need to watch you for an extended period of time to make sure that you don't do anything to our town. This is just a precaution. Are you fine with that?"

"Yes."

"Good, Just a couple questions last. What is your reason to stay and for how long."

Glynn looks back up to the man, though he could not see her eyes well because of the hood. "I want to become a resident, at least for half a year, hopefully, more. I am not sure when I will leave."

"Alright. I will need you to fill out a resident form once you find a home but not now. The final thing I need you to do now is to place your hand on this crystal orb. It will glow blue if you had told me the truth and red if you have not."

Glynn slowly sticks her hand out to the crystal then it is brought to a position where it can easily be reached. She whispers under her breath something that no one can hear but her. The orb begins to look slightly purple, but in a manner of seconds, it turns blue.

"You are free to go. Enjoy our little town Ms. Glynn" The man says as she spurs her horses to more forward.

After she determines that she is far enough away, Glynn releases a sigh of relief. She has dealt with identification crystals before. Good thing that this was one of the cheaper low-end ones or else she would not have gotten away with the answers she gave. She does not want these people to be afraid of her, after all, what would be worse than to be feared in a town of misfits and runaways were everyone has a story to tell. In a town where you aren't judged by what you are, but instead by who you are. Unless you have a secret like her. A secret that is meant to be kept for eternity.
