Chapter 3: Deadly life

I looked down at Rantaro's body with a dead look in my eye. The body discovery announcement played and everyone else came rushing in. They talked, they panicked, but I was thinking. I had to turn away since the smell of blood was so strong. He's dead. Rantaro Amami. Ultimate talent unknown. I thought putting together a case file in my head. I took out a notebook I had in my outfit and started writing stuff down. I didn't notice Kokichi hadn't left my side. Nor that he was shaking slightly, so slightly no one would notice. Monokuma showed up with the Monokubs. He asked the killer to step forward since the first blood perk was still in affect. I put my arm in front of Kokichi and slowly started backing us away from the group. "Who did it?" I questioned eyes darting left to right, from person to person. They all stared at me. "Well, speak up." I spat eyes narrowing. "You can leave you know. Just speak up and you can go. But that doesn't mean I won't punch you first." I growled. "(Y/N) calm down." Shuichi said. "Calm down? Someone was just killed Shuichi! Now is not the time to calm down!" I shouted. "Why are you protecting Kokichi? He could've done it to you know." Kaito said eyeing the smaller male. "No. He was with me the entire time. He and I have alibis." I growled eyeing the others. Still no one stepped up. "Is the guilt to much for you?" I taunted. "Whoever you are blackened if you don't speak up we are going to have a class trial. And I assure you I will find whoever did this and make you pay." I growled my eyes seeming to glow. "(Y/N) you really need to calm down." Kokichi said. I looked at him. "Your breathing is heavy, you're mad. You want to know who did this and I can understand that. But if you're blinded by rage you won't be able to find the killer. Take a breath, and calm down." He said. I nodded slowly. "Okay, fine, you're right. But I'm not mad I'm p*ssed at whoever did this. No matter the reason murder is still murder." I growled. I calmed down. Since no one came forward we would be having a class trial. I started investigating at once the moment Monokuma left after giving us the case file. I walked up to the body and started looking at it much to everyone's surprise. I checked everything on the Monofile, it all checked out. "I can conclude everything on the file is correct. Death was a blow to the head dealt by the shot put ball, and the wound and blood are still fresh so time checks out too." I said standing up. "How are you so comfortable about this?" Kaede asked. I looked her dead in the eye. "Well I'm actually serious about finding out who did this. If ya'll are going to keep gibber gabbering then I'm the only one who's going to be able to find the culprit, and trust me I will check everything to make sure it all checks out. Alibis, information, the whole shebang." I said writing my discoveries in the notebook. "I've played lots of roles, and detective is one of said roles. I know everything I need to do and since I don't give a s*it about dialogue I'm just gonna find the culprit now." I said making a gun with my hand. I pointed it at everyone in the room. "Once my mind is set no one can change it. I will find the culprit, and that's not a threat, that's a promise." I said.

I got back to investigating leaving everyone starstruck. They got back to talking and then went to investigate. Once everyone was apart I climbed the ladder and looked at how the books were arranged on top. I had a hunch. And seeing the books stacked like this only confirms it. After investigating everything in the library I got to work on alibis. Kaede and Shuichi. Korekyio, Miu, and Tsumugi. Me and Kokichi. Ryoma and Keebo. And all the others. I gathered a list of suspects and questioned them a little more. I only had two suspects now. I decided to double check a few places. I sighed as I stood in the hallway looking over all the notes I had. I just needed one piece of evidence. One undeniable clue. And it came in the form of a picture. I had everything worked out. Including motives and everything. Just like always I went the extra mile. I could still smell the blood from the basement. I sat alone in the hall for a while. Because I didn't listen to anything going on with dialogue I didn't know who to talk to right now. I was finished early so to speak. I sighed and stood up. This is all such a pain. "Hey (Y/N)!" Kokichi said in his normal cheery voice. I put my notebook away. "Greetings." I said not bothering to smile. "So any theories on who the culprit is?" He asked. I smirked and started walking to the front entrance as the announcement played. It was time. "Actually I already know who did it." I said causing him to freeze behind me. "YOU'VE FIGURED IT OUT!?" He shouted. I laughed slightly. "Oh I knew from the moment the I heard the alibis. I asked them to tell me everything leading up to this and they did so. Let's just say someone was acting very suspicious over the last day or so. I won't say anything until it's necessary since I don't want to get to involved with this but hey I'm being forced to go." I said with a shrug. He smirked and walked next to me. "You are sharp." He said. I shrugged my own smirk falling back to a serious expression. "Of course I am. I have to be. It's part of my job." I said. "I thought you were an actress?" He questioned. I chuckled. "That I am." I said not saying anymore. "You go on ahead I'll catch up. There's still one thing I need to check." I lied. He didn't say anything and just headed off. After he was far ahead I made a mad dash for the Shrine of Judgement thing. I dodged everyone else trying to get there. I stood in the shade of the statue as everyone else arrived. "How'd you get here so fast?" Kokichi asked in shock. "I wanted to get here as fast as possible. Can we hurry this along please?" I questioned to no one. Pretty soon the statue started moving. I jumped to the back of the group as an elevator appeared. While everyone else was talking about it I made a dash for it and waited inside the shady elevator. I looked over my notes as everyone else got on. We slowly descended. I tapped my foot impatiently. Kokichi was leaning on the wall next to me. "Kokichi are you going to be okay?" I asked for some reason. "What are you talking about?" He asked. "I dunno honestly." I said.

~After the scrum debate~

"HOW DO WE FIND THIS DARN CULPRIT NOW!?" Tenko screamed in outrage. "(Y/N)." Kokichi said drawing everyone's attention. I pretended to be asleep. "(Y/N)!" He shouted. "Eh! What, what is it!? Did they figure it out yet or are they still chasing their tails?" I asked earning glares from everyone. "Nee-heehee. You said before the class trial that you had already found out the culprit. If you know who it is, now's the time to spill." He said. I sighed. "Geez what a pain. It seems I'm needed to hold everyone's hand." I pulled out my notebook and observed the room. Shuichi's face..."Shuichi. Did you figure it out?" I questioned. He flinched slightly. "So you did it seems. So how long were you going to let them think it was you huh? Gonna get everyone killed like that you know." I said holding a finger to my lips with a wink. Everyone stared at him in shock. "Anyway since Detective boy over here is to scared to say it I'll go ahead and say it. Kaede is the culprit." I said. Everyone looked at me in shock. I held up my notebook for everyone to see. "I wrote every detail of this case in this notebook. I had it all figured out since the beginning. Oh wow that must p*ss off a lot of you." I said laughing. "Kaede? Is the culprit?" Kirumi asked in shock. I nodded. "Let's see." I said flipping through the notes. "Suspicious behavior, this includes stacking books in an odd pattern and when checked formed a ramp that led to where the body was located. There was a vent in the classroom that went directly to the library. If she had a shot put ball she could roll it down the vent and boom! Head shot. Not only that but seen looking at shot put balls in the warehouse, setting the flash on one camera and keeping it like that with ducktape, having been the only one with access to that air vent twice, and having three motives pileing on top of each other." I listed tossing my notebook to Kokichi. He skimmed the whole thing quickly and tossed it to Shuichi. Shuichi covered his mouth in shock after reading it all. He tossed it back to me. "Detailed drawings of the whole thing. Motives, alibis, and a list of evidence. She has everything covered. Every scenario too." He said in pure awe. I tossed the notebook to Kaede. She caught it sloppily. "Look over all that. Look me in the eye. And tell me I'm wrong." I challenged. She read over it all and looked at me. She couldn't look me in the eye. "You're wrong." She said weakly. "Lies." I spat. "Your motive was noble. Even I'll admit that Kaede. You're a good person. But murder is murder. And of an innocent person no less." I said shaking my head in shame. She weakly tossed my book back to me. I caught it no trouble at all.

"This is how professionals do their investigations!" I stated with a crazy look in my eyes. I smirked. "I accounted for every scenario. Being honest I didn't want it to be Kaede but no matter how I looked at it unless this was all some crazy coincidence and someone could use a full cloaking spell then no. Only Kaede could commit this crime. I'm sorry. This is the cold hard truth. And I know a lot of you will take this very hard. Kaede has even grown on me despite not having much contact with me and the fact that I'm an antisocial weirdo even by normal weird standers." I said with a shrug. I put my notebook away. I formed a gun with my hand and pointed it at Kaede. "I said I would find the culprit." I said firing it at her. "And I did." I said returning my hand to my side. "Once again I'm sorry everyone." I said. "Shuichi you already figured it out as well as the motive. Rap this up please." I said nodding to him. He nodded back. After he rapped it all up Kaede apologized. I kept saying sorry too. I didn't want to say it. And I lost my cool back there. Once everyone had voted and we were allowed to say our goodbyes. I was the first to approach Kaede. I hugged her but didn't cry. "Once again. I'm so sorry. I don't want anyone else to die." I said. "I understand (Y/N) you were protecting everyone. Thank you." He said hugging me back. I chuckled. "Why do you people put up with me?" I questioned. "I've been trying to hang out with you but you were always with someone else." She said chuckling herself. After that she said goodbye to everyone else. It was time.

I didn't watch. I didn't look. I covered my ears and turned away. Kaede was a good person so I was not going to watch this. After it was all over we went our different ways. I accidentally bumped into Tsumugi on the way out. "Oh sorry. Hey that reminds me. Can you meet me out here at night? I want to talk about anime with someone who won't make fun of me for watching it." I said scratching the back of my head with a nervous smile. "Of course (Y/N)! I understand." She said.

~Time skip~

I was leaning on the statue waiting for Tsumugi. Now I know what you're thinking. 'Am I going to try and kill her?' The answer to that is no. I'm not an idiot. I looked at the key-card in my hand that I pick pocketed off of Tsumugi. That's right. I know. I hid it when I heard her coming. She walked up to me. "(Y/N)! So what anime did you want to talk about?" She asked in a cheery tone. I could see past fake smiles, I could see through lies as easy as I see through air, I can see the dark aura around her. "Actually there's something else I wanted to talk to you about." I said. I held up the key-card. "This is a key-card that I pick pocketed off of someone. You know who that is don't you?" I questioned. She froze. "You see ever since meeting them I was suspicious because everything that came out of their mouth sounded like a lie to me. I always got a dark aura from them and it just made me on edge. So when I heard they had gone to the bathroom I was all over that. Can you explain why there was a secret passage in the girls bathroom? Huh Tsumugi?" I questioned. She growled lowly. "How? I had that locked!" She hissed. I laughed. "Lock picking is just one of my many talents. I guess you can say locks just, melt in front of me." I said. "Forgive the pun." I said with a chuckle at my own terrible joke. She tried to back away to the door. I waved a hand and a wave of fire blocked her exit. "Now, now. I won't tell anyone as long as you do something for me." I said. "What do you of all people want from me?" She hissed. "Now, you don't have to be so hostile. We're both smart, sensible women right? We can work something out. You know what I want riiiiight?" I questioned with a smirk. She sighed. "The information you seek will come in the form of a motive video. I'll make sure the Monokubs get it to you. Now give me my key-card." She hissed trying to snatch it from my hand. I jumped away smoothly. "Tsk, tsk, tsk." I said waving a finger at her. "You'll get this back once I get my information. Until then this will stay with me. You have three days to get it to me." I said. The fire blocking the door came to my hand. I closed it and extinguished the flame. She smirked at me. "You're really clever you know that? A remote location far from the dorms so no one can hear nor see us, at night so no one would be wandering around, and right after a class trial for good measure since everyone's tired." She said. I nodded. "And to think I came up with it all after seeing the passageway. By the way you might want to get the lock on that thing fixed. I couldn't pick it normally so I had to resort to more, fiery methods." I said. I walked past her laughing to myself. "A powerful enemy I could make. Don't make it come to that mastermind." I spat at her. "I don't see why you won't tell the others." She growled. "Don't you want this to end?" She questioned. "Of course I do. But everyone has motives. So do I. But my motives are my own. You don't need to know them. I'm the one piece you can't control in this game." I growled. "We'll see about that." She hissed.

Once I was in my dorm I picked up my book and since I learned a few things about my classmates during the class trial updated a few chapters. I closed that and started blasting monsters on my DS. I made sure my door was securely locked and went to bed. I added heat to the key-card so no one could pick it up without getting burned. Except me of course. I wasn't worried about Tsumugi's threat. She lives in this fantasy, but I am my own. I stand apart from reality and fantasy. I'm the wild card. No one can predict my moves.
