01 | Audition

Prompt: In this round, we were asked to make a book cover entitled 'A Curse through Ages.' It must be based on one of the themes given: Mysterious, Magical or Spooky.

Making the manipulation was surprisingly easy for me. What I really struggled with in making this cover was picking the right text for the title. It took me several days before settling with 'L'Elf Noir du Mal' and 'Cinzel'.

02 | Monologue Rules

Stage II: Angels and Demons (Book Jacket)

AHHHH! I'm really proud of this one since it's my first ⁠— er ⁠— second book jacket ever and I'm so satisfied with how it turned out.  Well, I was able to make two book jackets that day⁠ — one for the Noice and another for Graphicon

03 | The Festival of Talent

Photo Manipulation

I'm not really fond of this one.  I don't really like the model given to us. HAHAHUHU She's too stiff so I decided to find another stock for the body. I thought I won't be able to submit my entry on time for this round since I had several exams and lab reports. It was really challenging. I may not like it that much, but I must say, I'm kind of proud that I tried something new. Thank God I got through. Wish me luck!

04 | Do Or You'll be Slain

  A Typography-based Cover and a Quote Art 

So for this round, our talent in illustrating and typography was tested. We're asked to make two graphics: A typography based cover and a quote art. The cover took more time to finish than the typography/quote art. This was a really challenging, but fun round!

05 | The Ultimatum 

Trilogy

Prompt: A trilogy of object/animal-based covers. 

Absolutely my favorite round. Coming up with the design ideas and making the covers were so much fulfilling.

THE FINAL SHOWDOWN  

⭐️ The GraphiConquerer ⭐️ 

An hour before the announcement, I posted on PabalatPH's Facebook group, a Filipino community for book cover designers, a summary of my journey on being a Graphicon Contestant. I expressed how grateful I am for the opportunity given, and how much the competition helped me grow a lot as an artist. Not only did it challenged me to take risks and try out different styles and techniques, but it also gave me an idea on what path to take, what style to pursue and who I wanna be as a designer. Every round, I was torn between 'sticking to my strengths and produce something I usually make' or  'use the opportunity to try out something new.' Round 3 and Round 4 were definitely the most challenging rounds for me in terms of figuring out what I wanted to make and actually doing the graphics. In the fifth round, the Ultimatum, I remember asking my friend whether to go for an animal-based set or kind of play it safe and do an object-based. I rarely do both, but I'm more confident doing latter. In the end, I decided to go for the animal-based cover set just to test my skills and experiment with different techniques. In the final showdown, I was so frustrated since I can't come up with any ideas until the last day. At first, I had this vague concept that I wanna do, but when I was already doing the cover, the "Briar Rose" concept struck me. There are some parts I wish I had done differently. Nonetheless, I'm really proud of how it came out. 

I'm really happy and proud of how much I've grown because of the competition. When I saw the results, I felt a whirlwind of emotions. I felt like crying, but I couldn't. This is by far the most memorable part of my graphics journey. All of the other contestants are really, really amazing so I feel so honored and humbled to be the graphiconqueror.
